Star Trek: TNG S4xE4 "Suddenly Human"

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

This is such a weird episode for me. There's literally nothing wrong with it, it's well written, well acted by both our main cast and guest stars, it's emotional, dramatic, everything is there. And yet I can never quite get into it. I don't dislike it in any way and yet it never really grabs me either. Maybe it's just the high bar that S4 has set so far that this one seems a little flat to me in comparison, I'm not sure. It was, of course, a wonderful reaction as always, A. And I definitely enjoyed it more watching it through your eyes and the way you're always so unabashedly drawn into the Star Trek universe like all my favourite reactors are. Anyhoo, I think those are my thoughts for this one. Can't wait for the the next one, A, see you then🖖

Not an episode that will land anywhere near anyone's favorite list, but perfectly watchable. Funny that what Picard does best, lead, negotiate, stay calm under pressure, think fast tactically and strategically in extreme situations is not possible for many. But being a parent of sorts scares him deeply. That's when he is out of his comfort zone and his first reaction was to get out of it. He is human after all. But with a little nudging he does step up, he is the daddy of all captains of course.

You mentioned "both." I wondered if some kind of visitation for the grandmother with Jono (until he reached a certain age) could have been arranged. "Ever since I was a child, I've always known exactly what I wanted to do: be a member of Starfleet. Nothing else mattered to me. Virtually my entire youth was spent in the pursuit of that goal. In fact... I probably skipped my childhood altogether."

It’s a filler, but a good one. Had some big holes in it….ignoring the other 4 and their relationship with Jono….and COMPLETELY glossing over how pissed Admiral Rossa would be. Still, a serviceable filler character piece. There are only a couple of those this season. There’s some BANGERS in the majority of the rest. side note. Jono was played by Chad Allen. A few years after this he was a regular on Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman…. 146 episodes. Pretty good gig.
