I couldn't watch arty films like this all the time, but this sort of offbeat stuff does sharpen my enthusiasm for watching movies. I really enjoyed the crazy cuts that kept me off-balance and not knowing what to expect. Interestingly, Ebert gave this a fairly harsh review (the gist was, "You've got talent, now grow up"). I wouldn't go quite that far, but it would be nice to see more experimentation like this with an earnest, rather than ironic, intention. Still, I call this another successful spin. 3 for 3!

Look forward to rewatching this movie (along with your reaction) if the movie ever becomes available for streaming. Been maybe 20 years since I watched the movie. I remember liking this movie and thinking it cool. Nicolas Cage being Elvis-like was awesome. I like Elvis. I am same age as Nicolas Cage -- 26 when movie released. I remember thinking Laura Dern did good acting and was hot (age 23 when movie released), and that Willem Dafoe did a good job at being sleazy.
