Countdown to 144 (93 - Falcon 9, 1 - Falcon Heavy, and 2 - Starship):

  • Launch 97! Saturday, 5th of October, at 3:43 a.m. Falcon 9 Starlink 10-10 will launch from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral, Florida. The booster will land on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Launch 98! Monday, 7th of October, at 10:52 a.m. Falcon 9 Hera Block 5 will launch from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Hera is a mission in development at the European Space Agency's (ESA) Space Safety program. Its primary objective is to study the Didymos binary asteroid system that was impacted by DART and contribute to validation of the kinetic impact method to deviate a near-Earth asteroid with a colliding trajectory with Earth. It will measure the size and the morphology of the crater created by and momentum transferred by an artificial projectile impacting an asteroid. This will allow measuring the efficiency of the deflection produced by the impact. It will also analyze the expanding debris cloud caused by the impact. As of now, the booster will be expended in the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Launch 99! Wednesday, 9th of October, at 11:49 p.m. PT, Falcon 9 OneWeb 20 will launch from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. This is a batch of 20 satellites for the OneWeb satellite constellation, intended to provide global Internet broadband service for individual consumers. The constellation is planned to have around 648 microsatellites around 150 kg each, operating in Ku-band from low Earth orbit. The booster will land at Landing Zone 4 (LZ-4) at Vandenberg.

  • Launch 100! Thursday, 10th of October, at 12:31 p.m. Falcon Heavy Europa Clipper will launch from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Europa Clipper is the first dedicated NASA mission to study Jupiter’s moon Europa. It comprises of an orbiter spacecraft, which, while in orbit around Jupiter, will perform numerous flybys over Europa. Its payload suit included high-resolution cameras and spectrometers for imaging Europa’s surface and thin atmosphere, an ice-penetrating radar to search for subsurface water, and a magnetometer and gravity measurements to measure the moon’s magnetic field and unlock clues about its ocean and deep interior. As of now, all three boosters will be expended in the Atlantic Ocean.

■ THE BORING COMPANY: N/A... boring.

■ NEURALINK: N/A...

■ STARLINK:

- I reported the other day on the Romania, Starlink, and National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) collaboration. This is the Romanian crew who are conducting the real-world test to demonstrate that the non-geostationary satellites (NGSO) of the Starlink network can operate without interfering with geostationary satellites (GSOs). The test involves increasing the limits set 25 years ago for the density of the flow of power, over a certain area for a period of six months.

- The South African National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) CEO Dr Cleeve Robertson has said, "We are keenly interested in the recent South African government meetings with Starlink, recognising the opportunities it presents for our service and our beneficiary community... Starlink will revolutionise our ability to respond to emergencies, especially in remote and underserved areas. The real-time communication capabilities will enhance our rescue operations and, by extension, the safety of all South Africans engaging in water-based activities."

- School districts in Alaska are seeking Starlink as an alternative to highly expensive GCI telecom provider. Per the Lower Yukon School District's Technology Director, Joshua Walton, "Out of pocket for Starlink, we’re looking at somewhere around $40,000... A substantial savings when you look at where we were, close to a million dollars out of pocket with GCI. It was an easy decision to make."

- SpaceX brings the heat in a response to the Direct-to-Cell letter sent to the FCC by AST SpaceMobile's European telecoms Vodafone, Telefonica, Liberty Global, PPF, Telenor, United Group, and Orange. "While T-Mobile and SpaceX race to provide this needed service to Americans everywhere, foreign investors and partners in AST’s meme-stock are stopping at nothing to slow progress. AST and its investors continue to hamstring competing direct-to-cellular operations, even if their efforts mean that Americans cannot reliably connect during emergencies and American satellite systems stand at a competitive disadvantage in international markets. Apparently not content with solely harming competition in America, AST is now taking its misinformation campaign overseas by recruiting its European investors and partners to parrot its talking points and harm competition there as well."

- Starlink now available in Samoa.

- At a press conference President Joe Biden said that he directed the deployment of Starlink kits to areas affected by Hurricane Helene. Per Joe, "50 are in place right now, more are going to be put in places like Canton so people can call for help and reach the ones they love."

- The Memphis facility is looking to lease 552 acres south of the site for $1.65 million annually. Land is owned by the Economic and Growth Development Engine (EDGE). EDGE is to host a meeting this Friday about the potential lease by xAI via affiliate CTT Properties. The lease will have a 2.5% yearly increase built in. CTT is looking for a 21 year contract with the option of two more 10 year leases or buy the property outright.
