■ NEURALINK:

- Neuralink 2024, Noland Arbaugh (@ModdedQuad) was the first human to receive a Neuralink implant; Telepathy. Noland has demonstrated the ability to control a computer mouse with his brain signals, breaking numerous records along the way. FDA gave Neuralink a "Breakthrough Device Designation" their "Blindsight" development. It aims to restore vision to those who have lost it, provided the visual cortex is undamaged.

Neuralink's second patient, Alex, received the brain implant in August. Alex has been able to use the Neuralink implant to play video games such as Counter-Strike 2, demonstrating significant functionality. On the first day of using the link, Alex reportedly broke the previous world record for brain-computer interface (BCI) cursor control.

Neuralink received approval from Health Canada to launch their first international trial outside the United States. The trials will take place at the University Health Network's Toronto Western Hospital, which has been designated as the "first and exclusive surgical site" for these procedures in Canada.

Neuralink announced the approval and launch of a new feasibility trial to extend BCI control of their N1 Implant to an investigational assistive robotic arm!

- Per NP1 Noland Arbaugh, "The Neuralink team is tirelessly working to make this product the best it can possibly be. We run experiments daily, doing calibrations, testing models in WebGrid, and implementing new features for better ease of use. We current participants test each upgrade, pushing them to their limits to find bugs and different incompatibilities, forcing the engineers to make improvements, a task at which they excel. I’ve entered into a bit of a different role, taking things into the wild and trying my darnedest to break them.

There are little things which have changed, from calibration behaviors to a “park” mode which lets us put the cursor on standby while doing something like watching a movie. I’m sure many of you have seen the approval of the robot arm for use in the study. There is still some more regulatory paperwork to work through until one is given to a participant."

- Per Neuralink's DJ Seo (@djseo_), "The depth and complexity of human curiosity are truly special. Must preserve it at all costs."

■ STARLINK:

- Starlink in 2024 grew to 4.6 million customers. Activated Starlink in 27 new markets. Activated Direct-to-Cell in New Zealand and currently testing in other countries. Expanded the Starlink facility in Bastrop, Texas. Grew their constellation to approximately 6,800 active satellites. Introduced Starlink Mini. Added more than 300 Tbps of capacity to the network. Starlink Aviation is installed on over 450 aircraft. Starlink Maritime has been installed on over 75,000 vessels.

Per Elon, "Great work by the SpaceX team building the highest volume advanced electronics manufacturing system in America!"

- Ukrainian telecommunications company Kyivstar (@TwiyKyivstar), subsidiary of VEON (@VEONGroup), signed an agreement with SpaceX to implement Starlink Direct to Cell in Ukraine. Per Kyivstar, "We believe that by the end of 2025, Ukraine will be one of the first countries in the world to implement this innovative service. The agreement will play a pivotal role in enhancing the resilience of Ukraine’s connectivity landscape."

- Starlink received a license in France's Arcep (the French Electronic Communications, Postal, and Press Distribution Authority) has amended a radio frequency license and awarded to Starlink. Per Arcep, "We issued Decision No. 2024-2687 which amends Decision No. 2022-1102, awarding a licence to use radio frequencies to the firm Starlink Internet Services Limited, to establish and operate a network to provide a fixed satellite service open to the public. This license authorises Starlink to use the “STEAM-1B” system in addition to the previously authorised system."

- CoinEx Charity via its 'Bridge to Hope' campaign successfully deployed its third Starlink in the Municipality of Agoncillo, Batangas Province, of the Philippines. The kit was received by Agoncillo's Mayor, Atty. Cinderella Valenton-Reyes, and Tourism Officer, Charlyn Dela Luna. The town of Agoncillo, one of the hardest-hit areas during Typhoon Kristine.

- The French government is deploying 200 Starlink terminals to reconnect the archipelago Mayotte after Cyclone Chido. Prime Minister François Bayrou announced the first fourteen installations are planned in the town halls of the communes of Grande-Terre as strategic access points for the population.

- Mongrel Goddess (@mongreloutsider) is at Ilha Grande, a remote island on the brazilian shore. "I have internet thanks to Starlink."

- British Airways owner IAG SA is in discussions with SpaceX and Amazon to outfit its fleet with Wi-Fi service. IAG also owns Spain’s Iberia and Ireland’s Aer Lingus. Per Annalisa Gigante, IAG Head of Innovation, "IAG hasn’t made a final decision and is weighing options with multiple providers, including SpaceX's Starlink and Amazon's nascent Project Kuiper. US airlines can easily switch on Starlink because it’s already certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, but European carriers have to go through a certification process. British Airways would need a separate certification from Iberia."

■ X:

- Thanks to Nima Owji (@nima_owji) we have a breakdown of what X gave us in 2024.

- Per Elon, "Just a reminder that the algorithm is trying to maximize unregretted user-seconds. If far more credible, verified subscriber accounts (not bots) mute/block your account compared to those who like your posts, your reach will decline significantly." Sound to me that the algorithm will deboost your account.

■ xAI:

- Video above is from inside the xAI Gigafactory of Compute in Memphis. What you are driving under are some of the dense cooling pipes used on Colossus. Half a year ago this place was empty.

- Per Elon, "200k is just the amuse-bouche..."

- xAI's Brent Mayo (@BrentM_SpaceX), Memphis Gigafactory of Compute and Colossus Project Lead, held a 'rapid fire' Q&A on Saturday and is well worth reading. Per Brent there are +1200 team members onsite any given day. Plus there are "Above 100k" GPUs installed meaning they have started towards the 200k GPU goal. Link to his thread is in the sources section.
