■ THE BORING COMPANY:

- Yesterday, I reported on the Boring Company’s Vegas Loop expansion with the stations at the former Firefly Tapas Kitchen & Bar and the Gordon Biersch site, well more news has surfaced. There will be above-ground travel options to the Sphere from this station. It is approximately a 10-minute walk to the Sphere.

The University Center loop is already under construction and will connect the UNLV Thomas & Mack Center, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, and the Las Vegas Convention Center. Again, this will include above-ground routes from the Thomas & Mack Center to Harry Reid International Airport. A tunnel is in the works to the airport pending FAA approval.

Lastly, the Gordon Biersch location will serve as the Boring Company’s new Vegas Loop HQ and distribution area. It will also be the primary hub for Sphere visitors. They have already received a permit for the Gordon Biersch relocation. This is not going to be the TBC's HQ. That is and will remain in Bastrop, TX. H/T Michel (@Mic_VegasSphere).

TomNTex (@TomNTex1) let us know that the permits are in work for extending the 2 tunnels they are currently boring on Paradise Rd to the underground connector near LVCC South Hall/Boingo station. This will give access to the Westgate and the Encore tunnel.

■ STARLINK:

- "If you're concerned about Starlink, just wait for the CCP's version, then you'll be really worried..." This was FCC Chairman Brendan Carr's statement during an interview with Financial Times. Carr issued an ultimatum to European allies, telling them to choose between US and Chinese communications technology. He accused the European Commission of "protectionism" and an "anti-American" attitude while suggesting Nokia and Ericsson should relocate manufacturing to the US to avoid Trump's import tariffs.

- Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, a senior member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy party, has stated the following on a potential deal with Starlink for encrypted satellite communications. "In theory, the only evaluation we should give to the Starlink system ... should be purely technical. I believe we need to distinguish political aspects from technical ones, as we cannot base our reasoning solely on sympathy, antipathy, or temporary political ties to people like the world's major tycoons." The co-ruling League party does support Starlink over Eutelsat.

- The Cuban government's Ministry of Communications declared the use of Starlink illegal, citing violations of national regulations and threats to sovereignty. Cuban Decree Law 370 prohibits unauthorized telecom equipment, requiring all internet services to operate through the state-controlled ETECSA. Unauthorized use of Starlink terminals could lead to equipment seizure and legal penalties. Despite this, many Cubans continue to use Starlink to bypass government restrictions and limited official internet access costing up to $100 monthly for only 100-120 GB.
