"A terawatt of compute or you’re not really trying!" - Elon Musk (@elonmusk)

■ TESLA $TSLA ($342.82, -1.40%):

- Tesla's Leah Morgan, Thomas Bayly, Tom Lynn, and Sophie Smart visited Gresham's School in Norfolk, England, for a thought-provoking and hands-on day exploring the future of transport. Pupils from across all year groups participated and learned about sustainability and autonomous driving. Interactive sessions and conversations about the career paths and opportunities in clean energy and transport innovation also took place.

■ SPACEX:

- A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued for Starship Flight 9 on the 21st of May.

- Yesterday, SpaceX preformed a Detonation Suppression System (DSS) test at Pad A in preparation for Flight 9.

- Per Future NASA Administrator, Jared Isaacman (@rookisaacman), "We can get excited about all the investments in emerging space companies--but almost all of them are unprofitable and rely heavily on government contracts for revenue. We are never going to realize that Dream Future in space if it depends on perpetual taxpayer funding. NASA should attempt to solve for a true orbital economy---one that could potentially generate direct or indirect revenue for the agency. Ideally, this would be similar to how the FAA is partially funded through the Airport and Airway Trust Fund." He is right.

- Yesterday, another Raptor 3 was spotted at the test facility in McGregor, Texas. SN20 was headed to the Raptor South test stand. Testing has started to increase on RV3! Keep an eye out on @NASASpaceflight's McGregor Live feed.

- V3 Booster 18.1 "Test Tank 17" has been placed in to the can crusher at Massey's. Pics by Hardcore Electric (@HardcoreElectr1) and Carlos, the Starbase Surfer (@cnunezimages).

- Harry Stranger (@Harry__Stranger) posted some great images from Umbra Space's overheard SAR sat that show the foundations of the Gigabay on Roberts Road at their Kennedy Space Center facility. You can also see the Starship Orbital Launch Mount. Harry says image of the OLM is through the fabric tent it's being worked on under. Awesome! Great find, Harry!

■ THE BORING COMPANY: N/A... boring

■ NEURALINK:

- NP3 Brad Smith (@ALScyborg) had conversation with Tim Green (@nlutimgreen) on his "Nothing Left Unsaid" podcast. He talks about the moment he said yes to Neuralink, the limitations of the technology, and why this BCI is already transforming how he lives day to day. Brad also shares his thoughts on faith, identity, data privacy, and what it means to find joy and purpose. Well worth your time. Of note, Tim also suffers from ALS, so you get to see how today's technology allows them both to hold a conversation without speaking. It is amazing!

- Farzad also released his conversation with Brad.

- Ryan Tanaka (@RyanTanaka3) released a new Neura Pod. Check it out and give both Ryan and @NeruaPod a follow.

■ STARLINK:

- Starlink Mini is now only $299! That's a 50% discount, from the original $599. and only $99 away from the originally promised $200. This deal will probably not last long, so if you have been holding out for discounts, now might be the time. It was for me. You can get it at the Starlink website or the following retailers:

  • Best Buy: Starlink Mini $299

  • Home Depot: Starlink Mini $299

  • Target: Starlink Mini $299

  • Walmart: Starlink Mini $295

- Dubai-based airline, Emirates, is in advanced discussions with SpaceX to install Starlink on its fleet of approximately 250 widebody aircraft, including Boeing 777s and Airbus A350s. Known challenges include: the Airbus A380, Emirates’ signature double decker jet, is not yet Starlink certified, and the service is unavailable in key markets like China, Russia, and the UAE due to regulatory restrictions.

- Pacific Dataport launched the Nome Starlink Gateway in Northern Alaska, that delivers over 10 Gbps of capacity at 550 km altitude using Ku-band and Ka/E-band antennas.

- SpaceX proposed to the FCC that Starlink can provide Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services as a GPS alternative. The company highlighted that Starlink satellites operate independently of GPS, enabling PNT delivery across authorized frequencies. SpaceX is integrating PNT into its Direct-to-Cell service. Per SpaceX, "SpaceX has been actively working to integrate PNT solutions into its direct-to-device commercial service offerings. In so doing, SpaceX can advance the Commission’s goal in this proceeding to maintain American leadership in next-generation PNT services both here at home and in over 130 countries it serves around the world."

- Australia’s largest telecommunications company, Telstra (@Telstra), is set to launch Starlink Direct-to-Cell in the coming months. In their April trials, over 55,000 text messages were sent. It will be a "just-in-case" option with limited bandwidth for texts only. Over the past week a trail of over 500 messages were sent along with tests sending GPS co-ordinates and emojis. Potential future support for calls and data are in the works. Pricing remains unclear, and it may incur additional costs.

■ X:

- Per X's Allegra Jacchia (@allegrajacchia), "Watch this space, big things coming for Live (@Live)..."

- "Computer goes brrrrrr..." X's Fred Lohner (@FredLohner) has given us another update on fixes to the testing of Android's upcoming revision of the X App. Updates include:

  • The algorithm should have a better understanding of what you are interested in.

  • Expanded tap areas: entire cursor cells and “unpin post” prompts are now fully clickable.

  • Unified ListDetails and UserProfile screens with edge-to-edge support and toolbar blurring.

  • Kept playback speed and video quality when entering Picture-in-Picture mode.

  • Remembered video positions in timelines so scrolling away and back doesn’t restart playback.

  • Compressed outgoing requests to slash payload sizes.

  • Used asynchronous layout inflation to pre-warm video views for faster startup.

  • Fixed crashes on grok cards + recent search history.

- X's Amy Elkins (@Elkins), Mitchell Lawrence Smith (@MLS_X_), and X Japan CEO Ayumu Matsuyama (@ayumu_matsuyama) were at the Japan Partner Summit with over 120 partners and advertisers. Per Amy, "It was a huge success! We held an inspiring summit where we discussed content sales opportunities on X and heard many new ideas and excitement from everyone."

Per Ayumu, "Thank you so much Amy and Mitch for the great presentation and the fire side chat in front of our most important partners. So inspiring!"

- Japan's Ayumu also announced he will be participating in the Expo 2025 Theme Week on the 17th of May. "I will be participating in a panel discussion entitled "Next-generation communities with a focus on digital technology." I look forward to exchanging opinions with the panelists about the shape of future communities and to meeting you all at the venue."

- X announced that they will support Lucy Connolly and the Free Speech Union and help fight her 31-month sentence. Lucy, a Northampton childminder and mother who lost her firstborn at 19 months, posted an emotional comment on X after the July 2024 Southport massacre—where 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana murdered three girls at a dance class. Her post lead to her arrest under Section 19 of the UK Public Order Act for allegedly inciting racial hatred. This, despite Lucy deleted the post on her own within hours of posting it. Per X, "The Free Speech Union, a non-profit that X has worked with on similar matters, is providing Lucy with representation to appeal her sentence. X wholeheartedly supports Lucy and the Free Speech Union in this case."

■ xAI:

- Hyosung HICO, a South Korean power transformer manufacturer, announced a $51 million expansion of its Memphis facility. The expansion will make Hyosung HICO the U.S.'s largest transformer provider by 2027. xAI's Brent Mayo (@BrentM_SpaceX) along with Hyosung HICO CEO Jason Neak (@JasonENeal412) and Giga Zhang (@GigiZhang461790) announced a partnership with xAI issuing a letter of intent to purchase transformers to support Colossus’s 1.1-gigawatt electricity demand. Per Brent, "Our neighbor Hyosung (HICO) announced their expansion project intended to increase manufacturing output for transformers and transmission equipment here in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s awesome to see companies build in America with Americans to propel our nation forward! After all, how are we going to get to a Terawatt without the infrastructure to handle that power."

- xAI's Attila (@ablenessy) announced Grok's Voice mode for Android is now available for free globally.
