"Just a scratch..." - Elon Musk (@elonmusk)

■ TESLA $TSLA (HOLIDAY):

- When you see Semi 3 days in a row. Pics by Moises Aparicio (@aparicio_moises).

- Tesla owners in Canada can now finance service invoices through Affirm via the Tesla app (v4.46.0), with a “see if you qualify” option displayed alongside the estimated invoice total. Financing approval depends on a credit check, offering payment plans from 0 to 36% APR, and may require a down payment.

- Seven Texas lawmakers sent a letter to Tesla on yesterday, urging a delay of the June 22nd launch of Robotaxi in Austin until September 1st, when new autonomous vehicle regulations take effect. The new regulations fro the vehicles are:

  • Capable of operating in compliance with state traffic laws.

  • Equipped with a recording device.

  • Compliant with federal law, including federal motor vehicle safety standards.

  • Capable of achieving a minimal risk condition if the automated driving system is rendered inoperable.

  • Registered, titled, and insured under Texas law.

Tesla will also have to submit a First Responder Interaction Plan to the Department of Public Safety to explain the following:

  • How first responders interact with the autonomous vehicles.

  • How to communicate with fleet support and safely remove or tow vehicles from the roadway.

  • Any additional information regarding hazardous conditions or public safety risks associated with the vehicles.

If Tesla still proceeds with the June 22nd launch, the lawmakers requests Tesla responds to the letter with detailed information demonstrating that they will be compliant with the new law at launch.

The lawmakers are Senators Sarah Eckhardt and Judith Zaffirini and Representatives Lulu Flores, Vikki Goodwin, Gina Hinojosa, Donna Howard, and Erin Zwiener. All seven are Democrats.

- This is the new Supercharger at Aire de l'Aveyron in France. ! Enjoy the view from one of our sunbeds on Sévérac's castle while your car charges: it will probably go too fast. Per Tesla France's Head of Supercharger Business Development, Quentin Vanpeene, "This site is one of many we are opening this year in time for the holiday season. Wherever you go, you will find us on your way. At Tesla, we build the best-in-class charging infrastructure, in desirable locations, at the most competitive price for all EV drivers." Pics by Quentin.

- Coruña, a port city in Galicia, northwest Spain, Uber has arrived with a fleet of Teslas. The city has adopted these EVs into its public transport system to enhance connections with interurban areas. Per Dayana Barrera Farias, "Electric and shared mobility are essential for Spanish cities." Pic by Dayana.

- Green (@Ggeentheonly) has discovered in the firmware that Tesla is working on a 6-seater configured Model Y. This has only ever been available for the Model X. Per Green, "The much rumored about 6-seater Model Y made an appearance in the firmware. Unlikely to be China-only as some of the speculations said."

FLYOVERS (flight links in sources section):

■ SPACEX:

- Last night, Starship 36 experienced an anomaly in the upper half of the header tank area. There was a rapid decompression that rip the nose cone apart followed by a flash setting off the first explosion. You can see the tank fall through the flames and hit the ground causing the second and more devastating explosion. There was very little CH4 (methane) in the vehicle, which means this could have been a lot worse.

Elon posted, "Preliminary data suggests that a nitrogen COPV (Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel) in the payload bay failed below its proof pressure. If further investigation confirms that this is what happened, it is the first time ever for this design."

SpaceX posted they had a safety zone around the site that was maintained throughout the operation. Everyone was safe and accounted for. They also stated there are no hazards to residents in the surrounding communities. Of note, the FAA will not conduct any sort of mishap investigation. Ground testing is not a licensed activity.

Losing S36 is not good, we can chalk it up as another failure of V2, but my biggest concern is Massey's Test Site. It is SpaceX's only place to test Ship. So whatever damage has been caused, and I'm sure it is extensive, puts all flights on pause until it is repaired/rebuilt. SpaceX put a lot of work into this facility, so this really hurts. Pic from NASA Spaceflight live feed and Jerry Pike (@JerryPikePhoto).

The Booster static fires at the launch complex. I'm sure they can do the cryo-testing there as well. But, the V3 Super Heavy Booster Test Tank 18.1 was at Massey's during the explosion, sitting inside the Can Crusher. It was about to begin testing. That is now on pause as well and we do not know how badly it was damaged.

At this point, I would think, SpaceX will take the majority of workforce at the Pad B construction site and send them to Massey's. They may even send in crews working at the Cape. One thing is for sure, this is a setback, but Elon and SpaceX will push through it and Starship will fly again. Pic by SpaceX's Logan Pierce (@_lpierce).

- Per the official Starbase City account, "Starbase City officials are tracking and are actively supporting the response at the Starship's testing site, alongside Cameron County, our other local and regional partners, and SpaceX. There are no hazards to residents in the area. We will continue to provide updates."

- Today, Booster 16's Hot Stage Ring was removed.

- Yesterday, SpaceX President & COO, Gwynne Shotwell (@Gwynne_Shotwell) met with Founder and CEO of India's Pixxel Space, Awais Ahmed (@awaisahmedna). Per Awais, "Had the chance to share breakfast with Gwynne Shotwell this morning - a quiet force behind one of the boldest engineering stories of our time! We spoke about building with urgency, trusting young talent, and aiming absurdly high. SpaceX has been a compass for us at Pixxel; not just in ambition, but in how to turn that ambition into reality. Good day!" Pixxel partners with NASA and global firms to launch hyperspectral satellites.

■ THE BORING COMPANY: N/A... boring.

■ NEURALINK:

- We were introduced to Neuralink's 6th patient yesterday, Rob Greiner (@greiner_ro52817)! Rob has the Telepathy BCI that enables him to control devices like his computer by recording his brain signals via 1,024 electrodes on 64 threads inserted into his brain's motor cortex. His thoughts are translated into actions. Amazing!

Per Rob, "Absolutely amazing what I can do already in under a week with Neuralink! I can't thank the Neuralink team, the doctors, the surgeons and all of my family and friends support. It may only look like I'm doing a couple games but it's been under a week and I'm already shocked! I had quite the story so far being a quadriplegic, but just accomplishing and being accepted as a participant for Neuralink and having a successful surgery is by far the biggest thing."

- Per writer Ashlee Vance (@ashleevance), "I happened to be at Neuralink last night when Starship went boom. And so was Elon until well past midnight PT. He was in three-hour+ long meeting when the explosion happened. Meeting ended. I assume that's when he learned about it. And then... he went back to work."

■ STARLINK:

- At the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans, the team from the French sat-com company Datanaute used Starlink to broadcast the live event. They integrated Starlink Minis with Haivision and AVIWEST technologies into a backpack kit and transmitted video signals from the pit lane to the control room. Despite 4G and 5G network saturation, the Starlink connection ensured uninterrupted broadcasting interviews in real-time on the giant screens.

- Per Jamie van Schoor, CEO of Dwyka Mining Services of South Africa, "Big machines, moving big rocks, producing big data need the SpaceX Starlink Mini."

- Starlink seems to have expanded the free kit with contract promotion in the UK. Emails are going out for areas previously not available. New domestic customers can get the Starlink kit with the ‘Standard’ unlimited data plan with a 12 month contract at £75/mo.

- Jamie Beard, of Live U, showing how he uses his Starlink Mini to braodcast. "A few uses of Starlink in the last couple of months, now reinstalled in my edit truck where it’s gives me constant super fast broadband pretty much anywhere."

- Sophie Blacklin, Finance Director at Blackspot Networks, and team are traveling by aircraft across the Orkney and Shetland Islands to deploy Starlink and 5G cellular for Scottish Water’s mission-critical operations. This week, they enhanced connectivity in some of the UK’s most remote locations like rugged Foula to the iconic Fair Isle.

■ X:

- X CEO Linda Yaccarino (@lindayaX) joined Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) at Stagwell's Sport Beach to give a behind-the-scenes look at the new X Original Williams sisters' podcast.

- In an interview with Financial Times, Linda stated X plans to introduce financial services that will enable users to make investments and trades on the platform, peer-to-peer payments with Visa as its first partner, buy merchandise, store value, and tip creators. She also stated the company is exploring an X credit and/or debit card. Per Linda, "You’ll be able to come to X and be able to transact your whole financial life on the platform. And that’s whether I can pay you for the pizza that we shared last night or make an investment or a trade. So that’s the future."

- The X Team at a client dinner in Cannes.

- X Safety announced they added additional Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) hash-matching upgrades. This allows X to hash and match media content quickly and securely. In 2024, X recorded 686,176 National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) reports and suspended 4,572,486 accounts. Between July and October 2024, 94 arrests and 1 conviction were made.

- Nikki (Nicola) Meagher (@nikkimeagher) with X Team members Emily Trueblood (@itstrulyEm), Kirsten Craig (@kirstcraigster), Alisa Mandanici (@alisamandanici), Gaby Alvarez (@gabalvrez), June Lee (@junelee_), and Chelsea McCleary (@chels_mccleary). Per Nikki, "Proud to be one of the many incredible teams at X, pushing boundaries and unlocking groundbreaking ideas with our entertainment partners."

■ xAI:

- Now that xAI acquired X, the European Commission is scrutinizing X’s corporate structure under the Digital Services Act. Thomas Regnier, a Commission spokesperson, affirmed on Thursday that recent inquiries were sent to X and that the body is "following closely changes in the corporate structure of X, as we would changes in any other designated platform."

■ DOGE:

Estimated Savings: $180 Billion

Amount Saved Per Taxpayer: $1,118.01

- DOGE announced an update to the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) with three new data fields to increase transparency related to contracting actions for active contracts. This includes "has this contract been closed out?" and "has there been a descoping action?" This update has been sent government-wide to all agency Senior Procurement Executives for immediate adoption.

■ ELON NEWS:

- Elon posted the above image. I'm sure he had a stressful night.

- Elon posted a 2nd drug test. Same results. Negative. Do you think MSM will stop using this narrative in their stories? I do not. Per Elon, "The WSJ & New York Times fake “journalists” lied through their teeth about me. Now let’s see their drug test results. They will fail... The hair test was administered by the same company that did the urine test. Hair test has to go to a lab, so takes longer to complete."
