"Batteries are critical to smooth out the power fluctuations from AI training and grid voltage drops, as even a small change in power causes AI training to fail..." - Elon Musk (@elonmusk)

■ TESLA $TSLA ($317.66, -1.84%):

- This weekends Falcon 9 Starlink 10-34 over Cybertruck. What a shot by Gavin Richmond (@tweetsiphotos)! Support Gavin via his Patreon!

- Tesla has released its 2024 annual impact report. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Environmental Impact: Tesla customers avoided releasing nearly 32 million metric tons of CO2e in 2024, a 60% increase from 2023, aligning with studies showing EVs reduce lifecycle emissions by 60-70% compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles (International Council on Clean Transportation, 2023).

  • Safety Innovation: Autopilot technology is reported as 10x safer than human drivers, supported by a 40% crash rate reduction per mile (NHTSA, 2021), though independent audits (e.g., AAA, 2023) suggest further real-world validation.

  • Battery Recycling: Processed enough battery materials in 2024 to manufacture the equivalent of 21,000 Model Y RWD vehicles (up 136% from 2023), reducing new material extraction by up to 30% and supporting a circular economy (Journal of Industrial Ecology, 2024).

  • Energy Storage: Deployed over 31 GWh of energy storage globally, with Powerwall and Megapack enhancing grid stability and enabling Virtual Power Plant networks that earn users money.

  • Supercharger Network: Achieved 100% renewable energy power for the 4th consecutive year, using on-site resources and renewable electricity matching.

  • Autonomous Technology: Introduced @Tesla_Optimus, a humanoid robot to handle repetitive or unsafe tasks, and plans for a Robotaxi network (Cybercab) expected to emit 85% less per mile than the average ICE vehicle.

  • Job Creation: Created over 125,000 clean-energy-related jobs worldwide in 2024, bolstering the renewable economy workforce.

  • Affordability: Tesla vehicles offer total cost of ownership comparable to mass-market ICE vehicles, with minimal maintenance costs.

  • Sustainability Goals: Aims to prevent all batteries from ending up in landfills, leveraging recyclable materials to avoid extracting 18 gigatons of fossil fuels annually in a fully electrified economy.

- Per Cybercab Chief Engineer, Eric E (@EricETesla), "Wait times are the result of supply of vehicles vs demand for rides geographically at any given time. We are are utilizing the data from the launch to inform fleet orchestration and these wait times will improve significantly as we integrate these leanings."

- Tesla announced their first LFP cell manufacturing factory in Sparks, Nevada, is near completion. Great move towards reducing reliance on Chinese suppliers. This factory will enhance Tesla's vertical integration, lowering costs and mitigating supply chain risks. Map provided by OttoPilot (@6463dc).

- Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) of Reno, Nevada, partnered with Tesla’s Semi Operations group to provide hands-on safety training for first responders. The training gave real-world demos that equipped them to handle emergencies that may involve the Semi to enhance road and community safety.

- Today, vandals smashed every window at the Tesla Center in Schlieren, Zurich, Switzerland. The Zurich Cantonal Police are investigating the incident, and a Tesla employee referred inquiries to the European press office.

- Tesla AI posted an article on Dojo this morning on simulators which they call Specsim, to emphasize the concept of an executable specification. The supercomputer features a D1 die with 354 nodes in a 2D grid, each with 1.25 MB SRAM and a RISC-V subset supporting vector, matrix, DMA, and synchronization instructions. A Training Tile comprises 25 dies (8850 nodes) linked to an I/O co-processor with HBM and host servers. Specsim enables scalable simulation of thousands of nodes on commodity CPUs, targeting current and future Dojo versions, by mapping each Dojo thread to a host thread. It detects bugs like buffer overflows via RISC-V’s PMP and uses a custom race detector for SRAM, vector registers, and semaphores. It nears-100% CPU utilization, and ensures correctness through C++ unit tests, hardware differential testing, fuzzing, and exhaustive soft-float tests. Article link is in the sources section.

- Last week, Tesla's LATAM Account Manager for Energy Storage, Jorge Quintana, spent in the Bay Area with the Tesla Energy LATAM Megapack team doing onboarding, engagement training, and catching a Giants game. "The in-person moments with our leadership and regional teams were truly invaluable. Witnessing our team and impact expanding in a region close to our hearts is incredibly fulfilling."

- John Fitzgerald Weaver of CSG Developers and his team received a Megapack for a solar canopy they installed last year. Both will be utilized as a solar-powered microgrid.

■ THE BORING COMPANY:

- This diagram shows a new headhouse at Westgate tying into the Paradise tunnels. With this connection Resorts World and Westgate can reach the airport/university loop without using LVCC facilities. the only exceptions appear to be the turn at the Rivera Station and maybe some turning around at Central Plaza.

■ NEURALINK:

- University of Miami Mille Medicine MD, SpaceX Medical Fellow, and Neuralink Intern, Seth Tigchelaar (@sstigchelaar), posted the above pics stating, "I am excited to announce that we at Miller Medicine and the Miami Project, have successfully implanted our first patient, RJ, as part of Neuralink's PRIME Study! Thank you Elon for revolutionizing therapies for our patients!"

- Per Elon, "There is a clear path to restoring hearing with a Neuralink, even for someone who has had total loss of hearing since birth, as our device directly activates the neurons in the brain that process sound."

Per Neuralink's Head of Surgery Mechanical Engineering, Danish Hussain (@astrodanish), "The cool thing about a generalized I/O device is that we don’t have to change much to restore speech. Once you can: 1. safely stimulate the brain (already working on this for restoring vision) and 2. insert into the right region (already working on accessing a nearby region for restoring speech) then hearing is basically solved."

Per Neuralink co-founder DJ Seo (@djseo), "Your experiences, your reality, are entirely in your head (your brain)."

■ STARLINK:

- On the 27th of June, SpaceX resumed talks with Cameroon’s government to officially launch Starlink after being banned in April 2024 for what Cameroon says, "operating without a license." SpaceX sent a delegation to speak with the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng. SpaceX aims to secure regulatory approval from the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency to address Cameroon’s unstable and costly internet issues.

- The local government of Mendoza in Argentina, through the Coprosamen Foundation and Mendoza Livestock Cluster, is delivering 300 Starlink kits to livestock producers. Over 100 kits were recently distributed in Malargüe, San Rafael, and San Carlos. The program prioritizes producers living on-site, followed by those with on-site workers, aiming to reduce the digital divide, enhance productivity, and promote rural retention in remote areas.

- A group of Swiss residents have filed an appeal with the Valais cantonal government against a decision allowing SpaceX to install the 40 Starlink antennae Gateway in Grengiols to replaced the massive outdated facility currently being used. The group cited health risks from electromagnetic radiation, visual pollution in the protected landscape, and potential harm to local wildlife.

■ X:

- X has appointed Nikita Bier's appointment as Head of Product at X. He co-founded viral social media apps 'tbh' and 'Gas', and sold them to Meta and Discord for millions. "Finding my community and building an audience on 𝕏 has impacted my life more than any single thing: it's unlocked friendships, professional opportunities and it's even where I met my girlfriend. While I already spend every waking hour on this app, I'll now be spending that time helping others unlock that same value. And we'll certainly be leveraging the power of Grok to create hyper-relevant timelines and help people understand everything that's happening."

- The House Judiciary Committee's released a report last week that reveals a coordinated boycott of X by the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) that involved major advertisers and officials from the European Commission and Australia’s eSafety Commission. This is considered a blatant effort to target free speech post-Elon's 2022 Twitter acquisition. GARM’s shift to censorship is backed by a 2024 Journal of Media Economics study showing ad boycotts can cut revenue by up to 80%.

- X replaced Google Translate with Grok translation for posts on X web. Expected to be on all platforms soon.

■ xAI:

- Last Friday, xAI's Brent Mayo (@BrentM_SpaceX) hosted Tennessee officials, including State Representatives John Gillespie, Mark White, and Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, at the new Colossus 2 supercomputer facility in Whitehaven, Memphis. Democrat State Senator Raumesh Akbari also visited the site and said the following, "I love the concept of Digital Delta. We want to have high-paying jobs that really benefits our community. I like the ordinance that Mayor Young has proposed, where 25% of that tax revenue will go to a community that desperately needs infrastructure development. Again, we want to balance that with making sure that it is safe."

- Per Elon on Saturday, "Last night’s Grok 4 big run model used with our command line editor is showing the best real-world useful results of any AI."

■ DOGE:

Estimated Savings: $190 Billion

Amount Saved Per Taxpayer: $1,180.12

- DOGE gave us a Weather Radio Update. Since the last update, the National Weather Service upgraded 33 sites to wireless! They are saving $118k/mo in copper contracts. The team has ramped up production of the wireless kits from 9 to 50/wk. with ~340 sites to go!

- DOGE posted an unused phone line update showing that the Small Business Administration has now saved $2.84M/year in unnecessary spending. This includes:

  • Traditional Landlines: 96% (661 of 686) terminated, saving ~$650k/year.

  • Mobile Phone: 55% (2,940 of 5,340) deactivated, saving ~$1.7M/year.

  • VOIP licenses: 70% (6,505 of 9,195) eliminated, saving ~$469k/year.

■ ELON NEWS:

- Elon, Andrea Stroppa (@andst7), and DogeDesigner (@cb_doge) last night. Per Andrea, "It's late at night in California. Just had pizza and a lot of fun. Elon is working as usual, and the energy feels great. The future is exciting!" Per DD, "Mango Lassi!"

- Per Elon, "The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country! Utterly insane and destructive. It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.

It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!! Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people.

Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!

And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth."

Just so you what is in the bill, the new draft imposes a tax on all wind and solar projects unless completed by December 31, 2027, and proven free of Chinese materials. It will add a new tax on such projects post-2027 that fail this requirement, potentially increasing costs by 40-70%. It also terminates tax credits for domestic wind component manufacturing by December 31, 2027. It applies the same stringent material rules to solar and critical mineral credits. And of course, it ends the EV tax credits by September 30, 2025. But hey, the bill gives coal a 2.5% production tax credit... wth.
