Omg! Did Nao start to experiencing heat symptoms when he got close to Kaien after he had presented. Maybe Kaien didn't want Nao to feel pressure to reciprocate this feelings and or lose him as a friend. Kaien makes the mistake of saying it's just friends helping one another out in hopes that would make Nao feel better (Which Nao is reusing that line on Kaien) but if anything it made Nao feel rejected like Kaien never wanted or saw him more then a friend. So he has continuously and always doubt it if Kaien truly loves and wants him. I feel like Kaien has without knowing it repeated Daddy Yama's mistakes. And he is trying to undo it the best you can but there's that constant doubt in Naos mind. Even though all Kaien has been doing is thinking of Nao and how to respect and honor Nao's pace tempo and that he is ACE
