My beloved cat is sick 😭

I recently noticed that my beloved cat (an 8-year-old male gray cat) was eating less than usual. I normally give him 60 grams of food a day, and he started eating only 50 grams. I thought it might be a cold, that it would pass, but it continued like that for a whole week.

In the past, I had another cat who had the same symptoms and suffered from kidney disease. For that reason, I didn't hesitate and took this gray cat to the vet to see if he was developing kidney disease and to be able to act in time. The vet examined him and found him to be fine, healthy, but still asked me to have a blood test and an ultrasound done to check him thoroughly. I was reassured, but I wanted to have those tests done to be sure. I still suspected he might have that disease.

The next day, I took the cat in the morning to have both tests done at the same time. That way I avoided stressing him out with too many trips to the vet. (The cat gets very stressed when taken out of the house.) While they were doing the ultrasound, they discovered something terrible that I hadn't expected at all. The cat has a mass on his spleen, a large mass near his stomach, and another mass on a kidney, among other things. It wasn't a good prognosis.

I thought that in the worst-case scenario he would have kidney problems and would need to be treated with special food, but it was worse than that, and I was in shock.

The blood test revealed that the cat had feline leukemia, which explains the ultrasound results. Most of his blood test parameters were fine, except for his white blood cell count, due to the leukemia.

In short, my world collapsed in an instant. I discovered that my best friend and companion has a terrible disease, and I don't know how much time he has left. I'm giving him palliative care, but eventually, when my cat stops eating, I'll have to make the decision to euthanize him to prevent him from suffering. I've been feeling very sad and down. I'm still processing the whole situation, and it breaks my heart to know I'm going to lose my companion.

But well, that's life. Everything comes to an end. In the meantime, I'll be giving the cat lots of love, playing with him, giving him tasty food, and eventually, when I see that the time has come, I'll say goodbye to him so he doesn't have to suffer the ugly side of this terrible disease.

It's a sad story, but I wanted to share it with you and thank you. The donations from my Patron subscriptions have helped me pay for the vet visits and the cat's medication. I'll keep you updated on how things are going.

I strongly pray for your fellow companion to survive and get better, if possible. You are being quite kindhearted to him when he needs you the most and I am sure he's thankful for that. You deserve all the support and now more that ever. Blessings for you and your kitty!
