Crafting Edition: Our OG Plans for the Addicted/Like Us Universe and What Stayed the Same/Changed

It was a close race this month, and this one will change things up as we'll be discussing more about craft!! Results here. We will be looking back on our days creating the Addicted and Like Us series and there have been some big changed between first initial plans, the first draft, and what ultimately makes it to print. We're so excited to discuss it all! 💗✨ Thank you all for voting, and we can't wait to see what questions you have!

Ahh so exciting! Can't wait for this one :) Are there any friendship groups in the Like Us series that never made it on page? Was the plan for the BenWinona friendship always to break them up? What was your original vision for the Girl Squad throughout the Like Us series (if it's any different to what ended up happening/the roles each girl played)? Are there any scenes you wish you could have included but didn't get to because of page count? I was wondering what he was like in those inital drafts? How was he different from the current Farrow that we all know and love? :) (P.S. I absolutely love the Easter Eggs in your other books (aerial ethereal and my personal favorite, Love and Other Cursed Things....PS, I love this book so much and if you ever find the time in your incredibly busy schedule, I would love for you to return to Mistpoint Harbor). Back to my question, was it something you intended from the very beginning to include elements of the Addicted series and Like Us series or did it happen more organically during your writing process? For example, the Kotova's watching Princesses of Philly and October being a huge fan of Jane Cobalt.

You know I always kind of figured that being around Lily and Lo when they actually needed serious help in their 20s must have traumatised Rose and Ryke at least a little bit. I sort of just figured the overprotectiveness even in their 50s must be partly older-sibling stuff and maybe a tiny bit because of trauma? I'd love to know what you think! :D

Back in SKOP when Jane had her kindergarten kiss with Wesley Rochester, did you know his family would play a larger role in the future, esp with Sulli and the Cobalts? Or was it more like Sulli needed a minor love interest and you remembered the kid you wrote about with Jane and decided to build out his family? Basically did you know the Rochester family and their future roles back when you wrote SKOP?

I get being overprotective over your siblings who went through so much but one would thing you trust your siblings who have suffered and stood so strong throughout everything. That one scene when they told moffy about greg’s death instead of lo kind of just felt like undermining and underestimating lo in front of his own kids? I get where he comes from but 30 years is a long time to get over it. The man who stood strong over his half dead wife and daughter would never break his sobriety for greg and that scene just didn’t sit right with me. 😭

Did you ever consider for couples like Jane/Thatcher and Luna/Donnelly putting there weddings at the end of their books as a time jump. Everything's that happened in all the books in the like us series will still have happened but we wouldn't know of what happened all we would see is there weddings. Do you already have an idea of their weddings, more specifically Lunnellys wedding planned out ( what dress she will wear, where it will be etc) or are you still thinking about it?

And similarly are there any love interests you had considered before settling on whoever the Cobalts will be with? Like had you considered anyone else for Charlie and Beckett? Anyone you considered for the other brothers that you know won’t happen now? Please, I beg, give us just a little something non-spoilery on this 🥺🙏🏼

I forgot about that scene! Yeah I did think that was a bit weird, they shouldn't have done that to him. It's not like this is the first time Lo's been faced with death. I'm not saying I agree with that decision at all (I don't!) but perhaps they were extra tip-toey around Lo *because* of what happened with Luna and Lily? Idk. Connor Cobalt is clearly capable of making some questionable/poor decisions 😂 It would be really interesting to get one of their POVs during that time, I feel l like that would be illuminating

I mean it is not really the first time when they undermined lo in front of moffy and it kind of irks me. 😭 and Connor haven taken pretty terrible decisions in his life and all of them do that because of their own insecurities, concerned and pride but this one track of questioning and doubting lilo is just very annoying🥲😭

How do you balance the tone of your books? Have you ever cut plot points that you’ve deemed too sad? Or vice versa- you realized there wasn’t enough conflict in a book and had to add more struggles for the characters to face?

What went into choosing Daisy as the one to have fertility issues. Did you ever consider Rose or Lily? Was it her career in modeling that maybe influenced your choice in choosing her character. Also fun question if Daisy and Ryke had a son what would you ladies have named him.

Sean Donnelly is one of the most heartbreaking and complex characters. Was there a time in the writing process that you wanted to make him just a black and white “villain” (I don’t see him as a villain but I know his character could have easily been used as one), or was he always written layered? When I read your books I feel like they read as a tv series, there’s a flow to them that give tv vibes. Do you intentionally write them that way, or is that just how you naturally write? If it’s intentional, is there a certain way you have to structure them to read like a show versus reading like a “regular” book series?

I hope this makes sense, but I think you have mentioned that you spend a lot of time planning your novels... have you ever changed your mind about a couple that was initially planned because on the page the character had chemistry with someone else? All your characters definitely have a soul mate connection so it would be difficult to imagine them with other people.

Is choosing how many or if they have any kids something you do once you've finalized whose going to be a couple or do you choose how many kids that couple will have later on once you've written there books. For example did you know Moffy and Farrow would always have 4? Did you debate them having less or more. Do you know how many you want Jane and Thatcher to have or still deciding?. Also how do you choose how many kids each couple will have? Do you base it off of the couples personality's, or their jobs or even how many grandkids you think the OG couples can handle 😆
