How are we feeling about special editions these days? Do you still collect them? Are you pickier? Have you never been interested in them? Let us know your thoughts!

 Weekly Recap

Happy Friday, magical & heroic beauties!! This week we made a lot of great progress in Burn Bright. It's been a fun writing experience so far, and it's truly shaping up to be more than just a romance. There's lots of fam moments that we think you all will love, and also a lot of character arcs that already have our hearts. We can't wait to tease more about this as we get closer to the release.

Next up is Destructively Mine -- and when we tell you that this book/series is stuff right out of our TV addicted brains, it's truly as if we wrote a TV show...without having to write one! If you haven't been sold on it yet, just picture two families of con artists and the six kids all giving themselves monikers. The little gang of criminals are:

The seductress

The silver tongue

The mastermind

The chameleon

The getaway

....and the psychopath

It's MESSY. And we love it!

ALSO! (Feel like Paul Donnelly when we do this lol ✨ iykyk) we've gotten word, and there will be a pre-order campaign for Destructively Mine!! It's super exciting, and this means that if you're looking for a signed copy, you'll be able to pre-order this beauty SIGNED with some special swag to come!

In Patreon news, we're working on transitioning the RSS feed for Podcasts over to Patreon, since Patreon is implementing a Patreon RSS feed. What does this mean? We won't have to use Acast anymore, and you all will be able to access podcasts on Spotify!! It's a bit of a process, but when we're finally done with uploading our backlist of podcasts to the new RSS feed, we'll post specifically about how you can get the new feed.

Also on Patreon, we went back to our roots with a core 6 POV bonus. Yes, Daisy Calloway finally graced Patreon. So in case you missed it, here's everything that dropped this week:

It's very likely Part 2 bonus of the Fight Night will also be coming out in February, and it's gonna be an emotional one!

Bea (never.stopreading)

“lots of fam moments” AAAAAHHHHHHHHH YES 🥹🥹🥹 and I'm sooo curious about the romance too! I seriously can't wait 🦋💙

Andrea

I’ll collect a special edition if it’s of a book I love or has any bonus content 🤍 burn bright feels weirdly far but also right around the corner 😂 can’t waittttt

Yasti

Some special editions are such cash grabs and it makes me sad 😭 I only think special editions are worthwhile if they include bonus content, or original art/very different cover, or both :) Can’t wait for Burn Bright!! 💙 And also can’t wait for the DM preorder campaign 🤩

cass (ben’s version)

reading the bonus for this month sent me wayyy back to the addicted series era. it actually sent me into a bonus scene reread spiral! i went back to the fire from afar, cobalt civil war, connor answers charlie’s call, and more. all that show me dynamics i missed so bad… and also had ben moments of course.

Mary

I love special edition but will only collect if I haven’t started buying the series yet. For example: I own the acotar series so I won’t be buying the special night court editions. I preordered the special edition of burn bright and then will continue to buy the special edition of the cobalt empire!

Kaitlyn Pasi

i LIVE for special editions. especially when they’re books by you ladies🥰 i love collecting them

Piper

I love special editions. 💕 If I love the book, sometimes I'll collect multiple versions.

brenna

i think the term “special edition” is thrown out a little too much, and i think just because a book has sprayed edges doesn’t make it a special edition. maybe that’s a deluxe or first print run edition but not a special edition (IMO). to me, special editions are where there’s a new cover (bad rep duet SEs to name one of my favorites).

brenna

i also think that not every series needs a billion different special editions. because it feels cash grabby! if you’re doing the full series, 1-2 special sets is plenty, especially because special editions cost more money! i’m all for updated covers that fit the series better and become the new print cover , but not multiple $150+ “special” sets if that makes sense lol

Teresa

I only get special editions unless they include bonus content. I don't care enough about the special design of the books enough to spend my money on, especially if i already own the book. I need extra bonus content, something I haven't read before, for me to put my money out for it.

Yasti

Totally agree, Brenna!! I definitely don’t think sprayed edges alone are anywhere near enough special to actually make the book feel like a special edition, especially if it has the same original bookcover. There has to be something else also going on lol

Hayat

I used to love them but I feel like the market has become over saturated with them :/ every book these days has multiple special editions that are in print for extend periods of time so they’ve kinda lost their novelty for me 🙃

Angelina (Charlies version) ♟️

It is known that I am a special edition HOARDER I want it even if I haven't read the book 🤣🤣 and if I have?? God help anyone who gets in my way to aquire it 🤣🤣 YALL KNOW I FELL OVER MYSELF TO ORDER THE BURN BRIGHT SPECIAL EDITION I'm the person who will buy 3 copies of the same book because they're all different 🤣🤣 ALSO I WAS SO SO OVER THE MOON WE FINALLY GOT A DAISY POV AS SHES MY FAV CALLOWAY SISTER!!! And EEEEEEEEEKKKK I'm telling you guys I do not CARE what is going on in my life when I recieve BB I have my priorities straight and it is my number 1 priority 🤣🤣🤣 I will drop off the face of the planet to read it 🥰🥰🥰

Arrow

I mostly buy ebooks and only purchase hard copies of books I really love. That means my hard copy purchases are really more to collect instead of read. Because of this, I’m more inclined to purchase the “fancy” version of a book when I get a hard copy - a special edition, sprayed edged, signed, etc. Your plan for Burn Bright with the Deluxe release actually nicely fits my preferred format for authors/books I love! And I will likely participate in the Dishonestly Mine pre-order campaign to get a signed copy too.

Jay

I have no space for physical books so I am a kindle user, not really bothered about special editions, apart from when they put bonus scenes in them that I miss out on. That's why I love your patreon so much, get to read all the bonus scenes plus more!

Happy Fridayy! :) —— I’ll purchase special editions, but only if it’s a release from an author that I 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗲 / a series that I have an emotional connection to. I agree with some of the other comments in this thread, special editions do feel a bit less “special” to me now since there seems to be an abundance of them popping up and the term is being used more and more often. —— I’m glad Burn Bright is going well! I 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 family moments, so I’m over the moon right now thanks to that little info tease! :’) —— I’m also super excited for DM! I can’t wait to see the characters again and I’m so glad that there’s going to be a preorder incentive for this one as well! I love collecting bookish trinkets + swag! —— I hope you both have the happiest of weekends & I’m sending all of the good podcast recording vibes your way! 🤎🤎

Lauren Gibbs

Happy Friday!! I'm gonna be so honest, unless there's a lot of art or fun formatting, I feel like there's just too many special editions these days and I don't tend to want to order them.. 😅

Kelly.

I am so happy to hear there will be lots of family moments in Burn Bright.

Gabriela Seguesse

I love special editions, especially if it's a special addition from one of your books! <3 The Like Us hardcovers are the most beautiful collection I have on my bookshelf.

Elara

So excited for Fight Night part 2!!!

Teresa

Iam curious ladies what was the inspiration behind writing Fight Night and putting it in Daisy POV . I've been wanting to see the parents reactions for awhile and iam so excited. Were you inspired as you continue writing Burn Bright or did you always plan to write these bonuses? Also will the Fight Night bonuses only be 2 parts?

Carrie

I like special editions but I’ll only buy them if I don’t already have a physical copy of the book. If already have a physical copy then it feels wasteful to buy and I feel bad for my original book lol. But I do like special editions, I was excited that the edition for Burn Bright is deluxe that was what made me buy it physically as well as getting the ebook version! I also tend to only buy them if the entire series is already out with special editions because then they all match, so like I didn’t buy physical copies of the addicted series until the entire series had been republished with the bonus content.

Carrie

Also sounds like you guys had tons of exciting news this week, super pumped for the DM update because I got the first one signed so love I’ll be able to get this one signed too. Also really excited for your podcasts to be on Spotify!

Alex Di

Exactly my case, I love the feeling of a physical book but I switched to Kindle for many reasons, including space, so I don't really pay attention to SE apart from bonus content <3

Hooran

Can you specify what month does the first frog quinn chapter takes place in? :)

Shelby Keating

I like special editions but have gotten more picky about what books I would actually consider worth, but I’d definitely get it from you guys.

Shelby Keating

Also, I know we’ve talked about how Charlie is like a cross between Connor and Lo, but has anybody else noticed the similarity to Daisy?? I’m rereading Long Way Down and on ch. 28, Daisy describes herself as being claustrophobic in the party and goes to stand right by the window cause she can’t leave so at least she feels less trapped. This reminded me a lot of Charlie, like when they were stuck in that LA hotel in LLU. The big difference of course being Daisy wouldn’t just up and leave as easily cause she doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, whereas Charlie doesnt let that stop him.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

We've both been rereading the Calloway Sisters books, and after I finished Hothouse Flower, I really wanted to write a Daisy bonus. It was definitely inspiration in the moment! We both felt like this was a pinnacle point for the Meadows, and it's also closer to the timeline that we're writing in for BB, so we felt drawn to writing it. For right now, we just plan for it to be two parts.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

We reread a lot of those before writing the Daisy bonus too! We definitely missed all of them together and loveeeed being able to do a group scene
