Behind-the-Scenes: KBR Writing Chat - Burn Bright #2 (Patreon)

We are here for a very new feature on Patreon where we share our Teams Chat with all of you! Since we've moved away from each other, we have started sending messages through Teams rather than calling or texting. This is still a new process for us, but it's been working so well that we have lots of chats saved up. We know some of you love behind-the-scenes, and this is a nice peek into our conversations during the creation of a book.

Beware: Most of these chats are us gushing since we get to be readers as well as writers. So expect lots of gushing, many typos, light name calling (we refer to each other as Bishes a lot 😂), and also a little bit of helpful advice between each other.

To jog some memories: the emojis are a part of Harriet's contacts. She has an emoji identifier for everyone in her phone, so when we wrote her text chains from her POV, we had to figure out which emojis she'd choose for each person. And the emojis for Ben progressively change throughout the novel, as she grows closer to him.

A little more backstory to the emojis and the final ones we chose, we actually had to take into consideration what they looked like in the printed paperback. Once we saw them in grayscale, some of the emojis didn't show up very well. Like Tom's coffin, which became a skull, and Eliot's drama masks, which became a lion. So that's why we ultimately changed those ones.
