All About Eliot Cobalt in Burn Bright

January's poll has closed, and the results are in! We'll be discussing Eliot Cobalt's appearances and dynamics in Burn Bright. Has some standout moments and knowing us we might hint at some future things for him! BUT we don't answer things "off-page" since those are spoilers, so we'll be doing a character dissection of sorts to take a deeper look at who Eliot is! He is a master of chaos after all, so we're sure this podcast might stir up some lively drama.

in 'hockey with the Cobalts (Rose's pov)' Beckett tells his parents to ask Eliot about the pregnancy scare. does Beckett tell them to ask Eliot bc he knows that Eliot can successfully lie to them? also, if this is the case, then does that mean that Eliot has been successfully lying to Rose and Connor about other things since 'the midnight dip dare' bonus (when Connor tells him to lie better and they'll believe him) and that Beckett is aware of this?

We know that Eliot and Tom initially moved in with Charlie and Beckett due to Eliot’s method acting and his tendency to fully immerse himself in the characters he portrays. Tom, in particular, expressed concern about Eliot overcommitting and drinking excessively in preparation for a role. Could these earlier patterns help explain some of the behaviours Eliot displays throughout Burn Bright, even though he is no longer attached to the theatre company?

I am currently rereading the Like Us series, and I have noticed that almost every time Eliot appears on page he is either drinking or dealing with fallout from his drinking. We see Tom’s concern with this and it being the catalyst for Tom and Eliot moving in with Charlie and Beckett. Are the core 6 worried about his relationship with alcohol, especially since they all observed Lo’s alcoholism at its height early in the addicted series? Also, as far as I remember, no one whose POV we’ve been in so far has outright said that Eliot is an alcoholic. I am curious to see if those that have lived with him the longest (as an adult) -Tom, Charlie, and Beckett - would say differently.

Rose says in a midnight dip dare bonus scene that Eliot will hurt in silence // laughing away his humour is an adversary he’s made friends with, is this comparable to Daisy who was hiding her pain with a sunshine personality- both described with happiness (Daisy as the sun and Rose says in the same bonus joy is a part of Eliot) also connecting to this in Burn Bright when Eliot was drunk and the brothers kicked a girl out who he’d showed up with at the apartment, Eliot jokes it away the next morning, does Eliot disregard it because he doesn’t see it a relevant problem or is he laughing away uncomfortable feelings about it? I don’t know if this is to spoilery but will Eliot’s dyslexia be mentioned more in the other Cobalt books? As the others brothers have lived with him longer and see how it might present challenges in his daily life? Or maybe be more of a personal issue in his own book? Or is it something he’s adapted with and isn’t really a problem to him/something he’s now less affected by? Cause I know Ben mentions in the escape rooms Eliot’s case of dyslexia is quite severe and he’s unsure whether or not Eliot sometimes fakes that he can read/comprehend things

Ben says in the start of Burn Bright Eliot and Tom are ‘alike in the way they play with fire but Eliot is usually the one who goes up in flames’ is that because Eliot likes to take credit for the pranks and what not they get up to which was mentioned in I think Lunas books or a bonus scene or is it referring to something else? Possibly Eliot going to far at times or something else?

I love him so much thank you for creating him 💙 as for the questions; the one sided rivalry with Charlie is both entertaining and worrying, I can’t decide if it is just to rile his big brother up or if there is something much deeper there. Can you give us a bit more insight into that? Also on the topic, Ben says Eliot is the most similar to their father physically, does he also get compared to Connor and if so does it bother him or does he take it as a compliment?

In one of the bonuses it’s showed how Eliot is able to lie to Connor and maybe get away with it, and then in another bonus, Connor talks about how Charlie has become more unpredictable to him and that he kept the secret about going to Alaska to get Ben. Which of the two of them (Eliot or Charlie) would be better at lying or being deceptive toward Connor and getting away with it?

Would Eliot’s views on love be closer to Beckett or Charlie? Is he someone that eventually wants it, just not at the moment, or is he fully anti romance and relationships for him specifically? Also I think it was Beckett who said that Eliot gets bored once he’s figured someone out and that’s when his flings tend to end, is he actively looking for someone who he can’t figure out? Or does he just have his short lived flings out of convenience or entertainment etc ?

I think I remember reading somewhere that Eliot is one of the only Cobalts who knows how to cook, and actually learned from their private chef. Is this something he actually likes to do and is good at? Or does he just cook because he’s such a clean eater? Or was him spending time learning from the chef more about him trying to figure him out and learn about him, or curiosity?

Knowing that Eliot primarily works in theatre, I often wonder what it would look like if he stepped into an existing TV series or film. I can easily imagine him fitting into the Hulu series Tell Me Lies, it’s a popular show with a darker tone, layered with mystery and unexpected twists. What makes this especially interesting is how different that world feels from his real-life personality, which I think would make the role a genuine challenge and an exciting departure for him. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this.

When can we expect his LI to be revealed or seen on page? In less than a year we'll know who Audrey's LI is, and we'll have gotten content with Charlie's LI and Beckett's LIs since Burn Bright (and Jo since LU series). My fear is Eliot being the last book and we only end up getting content of his LI for one book. Which would be devastating as someone who has been waiting years for them both, only to have to wait more years and get the least amount of content of her. I'm sorry if this is too bold to ask or too complaining. I mean no hate when asking this because I love you guys and I'm very excited for this couple! 💙 But why are we keeping her locked in the vault for so long?

In burn bright Ben says that some people ship him and Vada together since they’re not related…but then goes on to say that they would never hook up. I was later reading the bonus “guys lunch at cobalt inc-thatcher” and was surprised to see that this was actually brought up 2 years earlier (in their timeline). In the bonus, Thatcher and Farrow overhear Connor and Garrison talking about tabloids pairing Ben and Vada together, as well as Vada and Eliot. Connor also says, “… if any of my sons would’ve had feelings for Vada, it would’ve been Eliot, and to put it in terms you’ll understand, that ship has figuratively sunk a while ago.” Why would he think that Eliot would be more interested in Vada than Ben? And why does he think it once may have been a possibility, but is no longer one. Does it have to do with their 5 year age gap and Vada being underaged? Also, Connor said that they wanted to keep this from the kids because this type of rumor would have an impact on Vada and Ben, but Eliot wouldn’t care at all. Since Ben later talks about it in burn bright, does it mean that the kids eventually find out about the rumor? Did Eliot end up not caring like expected, or did this affect him? (So sorry that this question is so long!!)

In the recent bonus scene, Eliot refers to Harriett as his sister in law. At what point in Burn Bright did Eliot start to consider Harriett an honorary Cobalt? We also know that Tom had a “feud” with Harriett. Since Tom is his ride-or-die, did Eliot feel like he couldn’t support Harriett as Ben’s gf until Tom came around?

Not a question but just wanted to say I loved when you wrote about Ben’s thoughts on Eliot saying “I hope he knows I think he’s one of the most impressive people in our family. More so than Charlie. He has such a severe case of dyslexia, but it never stopped him from having a passion for literature or pursuing a career in the arts.” I feel like we haven’t seen him get enough credit for that, especially when people give so much credit to Charlie for just being born a genius. It just warm my heart that his little brother thinks of him like that and I hope all of the Cobalts feel that way 🥹.

His siblings were worried Eliot would drink to much because he is a method actor and alcoholism is a large theme in the play, however three years later during Burn Bright he is now 22 and we have the scene of him coming home too drunk, is this a continuing problem from three years ago or something new/unrelated is? the play/alcoholism mentioned purposely in the yacht bonus scene

It has also been stated Eliot would go very far for the people he loves. How far could have Eliot gone in that vasement? Would he swing the bat? More than once? Would he ever go to far as to severely hurt someone in that moment to protect/avenge/help Audrey?

It mentions that he hides his emotions and the partying, the girls, even the method acting all seem like ways for Elliot to not have to spend time with/ escaped himself in a way. My question is will we meet the LI in the CE series before there book comes out in either bonus or a prior book or will they'll be li that we won't meet officially on page until there book comes out.

If you had to apply the monikers used in the WWW series to Cobalt siblings, which would Eliot be? I’d actually love to know which you’d give to each Cobalt if you’re feeling generous (since there are 7 of each)! I know they won’t all be a perfect match up but it’d be fun to get your best fit. My personal guess for Eliot would be the Chameleon 🦎 and I feel like Charlie fits like half of them 😂. And maybe Ben being the Silver Tongue since he’s so sociable? Interested in your take!
