In loving memory of Abby League (Patreon)
Content
There will be no Fizz Hangout this weekend. We're so deeply saddened to have to share this with all of you, but our dear friend and one of the hearts of the Addictedverse community has passed away. You might've seen Abby a whole lot on our Patreon and in the chat rooms, as she was our only Patreon admin. The first and only. She had such an earnest, powerful love for our books and all of the readers who've fallen in love with them too. If you participated in the Like Us Book Club where you read the series from start to finish and chatted in the Chat Room during the many months going through all thirteen books -- that was all created by Abby.
She was such an incredible human. We've been fortunate to meet some extremely kind, loving, selfless souls through our books, but her spirit shone so bright, brighter than most. Her joy was infectious. So much so that many became close to her through this fandom, and those who knew her can attest that she was radiant in her love of books and people and music. Her encouragements of others was so pure. We love seeing friendships form through our books, and seeing so many people gravitate to Abby came at no surprise. She was the epitome of a kind heart. Kind in every sense that one can be kind.
There are no real words to describe a loss like this, as it's been devastating. It always feels unfair when good people go too soon.
She's touched a lot of people here, and her love and light is still felt and lives on. If you'd like to know more about Abby, you can read a Facebook post from her lovely best friend here. We're waiting to hear about funeral arrangements, but if we hear anything, we'll post in the Fizz chat room in case anyone would like to pay their respects the way her family wishes.
We know so many of you gravitate to our books for comfort and solace and connection. Maybe a character is going through something that you are too, and the Hales, Meadows, and Cobalts are always there. Please don't hesitate to turn to them if you need someone in a moment. We always do. Please don't hesitate to seek help from friends, family, and/or mental health professionals. We write about addiction and mental health in hopes others know it's okay to talk about it and you don't need to hide in shame.
You might not know that the 988 Lifeline also deals with substance use crisis, including alcohol use. If you need help, don't be afraid to call or text 988. More about it:
The 988 Lifeline responds 24/7 to calls, chats or texts from anyone who needs support for suicidal, mental health, and/or substance use crisis, and connects those in need with a counselor who listens and talks through your unique situation to give personal, judgment-free support. There are many reasons that people connect with the 988 Lifeline beyond suicide. Some examples include problems with drug or alcohol use, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, mental illness, loneliness, trauma, bullying, stress, relationship troubles, and just needing someone to talk with.
We're sending much love, light, and hugs to all of you, especially those who knew Abby. We'll end with a poem, read by Audrey in Burn Bright.
Do not stand at my grave and weep;I am not there, I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow,I am the diamond glints on snow.I am the sunlight on ripened grain,I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush,I am the swift uplifting rushOf quiet birds in circling flight.I am the soft stars that shine at night.Do not stand at my grave and cry;I am not there, I did not die.
