Behind-the-Scenes: KBR Writing Chat - Burn Bright #5 (Patreon)

Happy Cobalt Wednesday! We're bringing you some Burn Bright feeeeelings on this beautiful day 🦋🦋🦋

We are back with our behind-the-scenes Teams Chat feature on Patreon! Since we've moved away from each other, we've started sending messages through Teams rather than calling or texting. This is still a new process for us, but it's been working so well that we have lots of chats saved up. We know some of you love behind-the-scenes, and this is a nice peek into our conversations during the creation of a book.

Beware: Most of these chats are us gushing since we get to be readers as well as writers. So expect lots of gushing, many typos, light name calling (we refer to each other as Bishes a lot 😂), and also a little bit of helpful advice between each other.

More Context: We went back in our chats and found the area where we were working on Chapter 57, which is a pivotal moment in all of Burn Bright -- and one of our fav chapters EVER!

You can even tell, based on some of the passages, we tweak very tiny things in the final draft for clarity. The "I think I did" ends up becoming "I think I did find it here." Also more of what Charlie said about Frederick ended up being deleted since it wasn't accurate.

A lot of our rereads and passthroughs are us taking a finer look at the words we're using and thinking about whether the reader will have any confusion about certain aspects of the narrative, so we're actively trying to make sure the story A.) makes sense for what we're trying to tell and B.) sounds true to every character we're writing.

Burn Bright, most especially, we wanted to nail down all the character arcs, motivations, and relationships since we have years and years of history with the Cobalts. Doing this family proud has given us such joy, and we're just so incredibly happy with how this series is unfolding.
