All About the Webs We Weave Series

We're thrilled to finally be able to gush about Dangerously Ours, which releases on May 12th, and this podcast will not only be our "director's commentary" podcast about the finale book in the Webs We Weave series -- but we're also going to be taking a look at the series as a whole! From the creation to the execution to all the things in between, this is the behind-the-scenes podcast for a series we love so much.

Unlike our other "all about" podcasts post-release, we won't be going chapter by chapter of Dangerously Ours since we're doing more of a series overview. You all can ask us anything related to the entire Webs We Weave series!

Let us know in the comments any questions you may want answered about the Webs We Weave series!

Was there any intentional symbolism behind the number 3. In destructively mine the number came up, obviously the triplets, but you could group out alot of dynamics in 3's. 3 parents, 3 kids each family. Jake Ollie Hailey, Jake rocky phoebe, etc.

frannypack

Can you talk about some of the characters choosing their names? We know rocky and phoebe choose those names as preference, and it's alluded to that oliver and nova chose their own names in childhood. Such an interesting concept and I wonder if there is any meaning. How did it affect their identity compared to their role/Alias ex:seductress, mastermind.

frannypack

Trevor. I don't have a question, I just want to hear you talk about him. Especially his role in destructively mine.

frannypack

As of the first 2 books (may get more insight in book3) how people sometimes treat/ perceive phoebe makes me want to throw the book across the room. One good example is when she asks Jake when ppl will stop calling her skunk and he says never and yet he says Hailey should have ppl stop in about a year. Repeatedly we get the impression that ppl see her as slutty or trashy or super hard. Is she projecting insecurity since this is her pov or is there something about her on the surface that people deem unworthy?

Sofia Boscacci

Be honest with me guys, is it weird that I think Trevor has done nothing wrong the entire series so far? 😭😂 he’s just the best to me

Sofia Boscacci

I’m gonna miss this series so much 😔

Fluff

Would you ever consider doing a Nova or second gen books?

Sarah

Which character changed the most from your original outline to the final books? Were there any scenes you always knew would happen from the very beginning? Like had you written them out years ago? Did any character surprise you while writing the series? Was there a moment while drafting the final book where you got emotional yourselves?

Yasti

Congrats on finishing this series!! I'm so very happy that it exists! 🩷 What was your favourite thing about writing it?

frannypack

Can you talk about what having 5 povs is like for dangerlously ours? What was the process for introducing and developing 3 new povs? really like being in Oliver's brain, and Hailey mental state is captured very well. Was there a pov that was harder to write than others? the easiest? your fav?

millie (coballoway's version)

would you ever consider writing an AU bonus scene where the WWW characters try to con the core 6? I would *love* to see them interact!

Sarah Wilson

I’m curious about someone who was mentioned in Destructively Mine… Meara O’Neil. She gave Oliver her boat and Phoebe notes she’s has to listen to her yap about being three degrees from some billion-dollar family who owns Fizzle. (Sorry for not using quotes). Anyway, my question is: how is she connected to the Calloways?

Marisa

I know that you had reworked Destructively Mine extensively through editing. What parts of the plot stayed the same? What changed? What was the original story like?

Marisa

Why did you decide to set this story in the early 2010s instead of present day?

Marisa

Did you always know you wanted to put WWW in the same universe as the Addicted series, and that you would put Easter eggs such as Fizz Life in Dishonestly Yours, or did that come later in the editing process?

Marisa

You have written sets of twins in your books before, but what made you want to write a set of triplets for WWW?

Marisa

This isn’t a question, but I recently reread the first two books in the series prior to the release of Dangerously Ours, and I was shocked to see the Masquerade Hotel mentioned early on in Dishonestly Yours. I initially read the books prior to reading Circus is Family and must not have thought twice about the hotel’s name at the time. But now that I know and love the Kotova family that one small phrase just jumped off the page. It almost felt like you were winking at us from the page….like here’s a little thank you present for being a long time reader. These small easter eggs make rereading your books soooo much fun.

Marisa

In WWW Oliver feels very Cobalt coded, and he seems most like Eliot. What are some of the similarities and differences between Oliver and Eliot? If they met each other in their early 20s do you think they’d get along?

Marisa

Why did you decide to give both Hailey and Birdie the same snake bite lip piercings?

Marisa

Why did you have Hailey say the specific date at the beginning of Dangerously Ours (April 21, 2012)? In other books you’ve had dates as part of the chapter heading (ex SKOP), but you usually don’t have characters say the specific date as part of their dialogue or internal monologue. Did you drop the date in chapter 1 to establish that this story was set in the 2010s and not current day? Was it to help long term readers figure out where in the Addicted series timeline this book fell?

Marisa

**Dangerously Ours spoiler below** One of my favorite parts of dangerously ours was when Jake sees Connor in Celebrity Crush. It was so interesting to see how an acquaintance from Connor’s youth would describe him to a stranger. I also loved how Oliver’s first question was whether Connor was an old hookup of Jake’s. Did you ever consider having Jake say yes? If there wasn’t a 5 year age gap between the characters, would you have had Jake say yes? Do you think they would have been attracted towards each other?

Marisa

I know that Krista usually does your book covers. Did she work with Berkley to create the WWW covers?

Marisa

I noticed that the paperback of DO feels different than the paperbacks of DY and DM. It seems like the pages are thinner and the cover is glossier (which I love!!!) Do you know the thought process that went into making that change, or was that purely done on Berkley’s end?

Marisa

** Dangerously Ours spoiler below** How excited were you to be able to incorporate the Avengers theatrical release into the story for dangerously ours? I loved how Nova was so pissed about missing it…I’d be too 😂

Marisa

I was watching mystic pizza recently in honor of Hailey and Phoebe…and I noticed that Phoebe, Daisy, Jo, Rose and Charlie were all names of characters in the movie. Were you influenced by this movie to use these names for your characters, especially Phoebe?

Marisa

How hard was it to market and promote dangerously ours while also trying to finish loathed love? Did you feel less pressure since it was backed by Berkeley who were also marketing it?

Marisa

Was it hard for you to write destructively mine before dishonesty yours was released? Do you think not having reader feedback from book 1 effected your process of writing book 2?

Marisa

**Dangerously Ours spoilers below** I know that Beckett’s love interests aren’t confirmed yet, but if he does end up with both Jo and Leo, that would have you writing 3 poly relationships with 1 girl and 2 guys over 3 series. Even though there were obvious similarities, I thought that Hailey’s relationship felt so fresh and different from Sulli’s. How do you make sure that the poly relationships feel so different from each other?

Marisa

I love how each person identified their texts with an emoji. How did you come about choosing which emoji worked best for each character?

Marisa

**Dangerously Ours spoilers below** What made you decide to have Winter call Oliver “uncle” instead of “dad”? It seems that Oliver is raising Winter as a parental figure alongside Jake and Hailey.

Marisa

**Dangerously Ours spoilers below** I honestly thought you were going to kill off Nova in *that* scene. Did you ever consider going through with it?

Marisa

**Dangerously Ours spoilers below** Family is such a huge part of all your books, and so many of your couples go on to have kids as part of their HEA. I think Phoebe and Rocky were the first couple you’ve written that clearly stated that they don’t want kids, to the point that Rocky got a vasectomy. What made them different from other couples you’ve written? Why did you decide to have them not want kids?

frannypack

Could you tell us more about the coping mechanisms that phoebe, Ollie and rocky have as being the 'face to face' manipulators? These are hinted at and shown really well throughout the series and for some it's an active part of the trauma they are faced with.

frannypack

Valentina had a notable introduction in book one and then tapered off, did you originally have a bigger plan for her? is there more backstory on Damien Bennet? any other side characters that took on a less or bigger role than you anticipated?

frannypack

The scene where Oliver cuts himself shaving is very impactful. Can you expand on his feelings of his changing appearance?

Chiara

Yes!!!!! 🤩

Marisa

Can you talk about the difference in reactions between Oliver cutting his face and Nova cutting his face?

Chiara

My questions : - any chance of a Nova's book? He's the one we see the less in this story but I think he as well has an entire world to share - any bonus chapter related to them??🥹 - did the publisher asked the book to have a "specific" length? I missed your longer book style! *PLEASE ATTENTION! SPOILERS* - Since the godfather and the godmothers made a great impact on the main characters lives, why seeing them primarily through flashbacks and not giving them more space or confrontational moments with our beloved spiders?

Teresa

Dangerously Ours SPOILERS. . . . . I love the fact that you included a main couple that doesn't want kids but I admit I was heartbroken that the entire Wolfe bloodline wouldn't continue after the horrors they went through. Was that something you debated or you knew from the beginning of the series.

frannypack

We see Jake's assigned ringtone for Oliver. What would be his assigned ringtone for hailey, rocky, phobe, etc?

Teresa

Would you ever write a bonus scene or novella showing where the characters are in the far future ( like 10 to 15 years later) ?

Teresa

If Nova was ever to get his own love story what kind of person do you think would be perfect for him?

frannypack

So I just watched Mystic pizza in honor of webs we weave and I noticed the little girl is named phoebe! I'm assuming that you named her as a nod to the film. Are there any other small references from the movie or inspirations other than the obviously stated.

Marisa

At the Mystic book signing (I loved meeting you guys, I had the best time!!) you talked about how you split up Oliver and Jake’s POVs where you each wrote one. Did this just apply for the first pass, and then you switched them between each other to flush out the details of the chapter? Can you talk about this process more and how it differs from your usual writing style?

Marisa

Did you go into writing Dangerously Ours with an idea of what the epilogue would look like, or was that something that was developed organically when you got to the end of the book? Also, I absolutely love the way you incorporated the song Itsy Bitsy Spider into the story. My 8 month old niece loves that song, and now whenever we sing it together I’ll think of the Webs We Weave series 🕸️

Teresa

Dangerously Ours SPOILERS . . . . . Did you know from start that you wanted Hailey to have a girl or did you go back in forth. If you considered a boy did you have a name picked out?

Marisa

One of my favorite parts of Dangerously Ours was Jake having a nut allergy and how you incorporated it into the motel/vending machine scene. I loved how considerate Oliver was once he realized the situation. And how he carried an epipen for Jake! I have a similar anaphylactic allergy to milk and I thought you guys did an amazing job representing the experience our friends/family go through by showing the impact of Jake’s allergy through Oliver’s perspective. What inspired you to give his character this allergy?

🕷️

Did Nova finally got to watch Avengers in DO?

IDKWIDH (Eliot Alice's version)

I was also thinking about this!! It's so refreshing seeing how new and different Hailey, Olly, and Jake were to Kitsulleti

rr

Is this final goodbye to these characters or there is a possibility of seeing these characters again in future in addictedverse or another book?

rr

I loved reading about hailey, oscar and jake so so much. They are now one of my most favourite couple written by you two. I cant believe its over but i loved them so much 😭

rr

Are you planning to write bonus scenes for this universe?

Marisa

In the past you mentioned cutting a scene from destructively mine and that you had considered putting it on Patreon, however, you ended up adding it to dangerously ours instead. Which scene was it?

Teresa

For a day who would you match (get along the most with) each character in the webs we weave series with in the Cobalt Empire series including side characters? What would they do?

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Thank you all for the awesome questions! We've begun prepping this podcast and can't wait to record soon!!! Anything past this comment won't make it "on air" on the pod xoxo
