This is our BIG deep-dive podcast where we typically go chapter-by-chapter discussing our new release. Kind of like a "director's commentary" on a DVD. For Silver Sweet, it won't be in chronological order, but we will be discussing all aspects of Tom's romance and the behind-the-scenes tidbits of creating the novel.

We're also taking YOUR questions for this one! So ask us anything pertaining to Silver Sweet that you'd like to be discussed on the podcast. (Please remember to be kind. I’M SO EXCITED! 🥹🤎 ——— 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: • In Chapter 64 of Silver Sweet, Phoenix asks Tom “You don’t want to show me every fucking part of you?” Was this an intentional reference to Tom’s lyrics in “Fire You Feel”? 👀 If so, did you know that you wanted to bring some lines from “Fire You Feel” back at some point when you introduced the lyrics in Burn Bright, or did it happen naturally while writing Tom + Phoenix’s reunion scene? • Was Tom and Warner’s eventual falling out always in the cards for them? Or was there a time where you envisioned The Carraways succeeding with Warner as a member? (Boo him, though 🍅🍅) • I wanted to mention that I **love** Scally + Steffi’s Pinterest boards! I’m so glad that we’re receiving boards for more characters in this universe (the more Pinterest boards the merrier ✨)! Can we expect a Neil board to drop in the future, or is his absence intentional (you don’t have to expand upon it if so)! • One word that Tom + Phoenix would use to describe one another at the beginning of Silver Sweet VS at the end of Silver Sweet.

Has Tom yet considered the fact that he has once upon a time had a major crush on not one but TWO of his future brother in laws???🤣You can’t help but love him hahaha!!

In a past podcast you guys teased that there was a part in SS where Tom majorly misinterprets something about another character, and us as the reader would be like noooo tom that’s not right. Multiple times in the book (before the end scene at the ballet) Tom says to Beckett very bluntly “you’re straight”. Is that the part you were referring to?

I know that you decided to make birdie Audrey’s Li while writing SS. Were there any small details you added to his character specifically because you knew he was going to end up with her? Maybe during a second pass through? For example, when Phoenix described birdie as an incredibly messy eater I thought, surely Krista and Becca added this just to make Audrey and birdie as incompatible as possible. Also Birdies sore throat (and why he had it). I dieddd. It was hilarious finding out these details about birdie knowing that this is who princess Audrey ends up with. Also, thank you for confirming them before SS released, it made this book even more enjoyable.

Something that makes me wonder is why it seems like Rose and Connor are a bit more guarded with Phoenix than with Harriet. I understand the arrest was a red flag but if Charlie was able to dive into the story, Connor did too for sure and would have realized it wasn't something dangerous for Tom. Not only that but Charlie and Beckett ended up liking phoenix a lot too, so I feel like that should skew their view of him on his favor, as well as him being the reason Tom wanted to quit Adderall. Maybe it's because of his family? I'd just like to hear your thoughts about it.

I was FLOORED when Beckett revealed that not only have him and Leo been sleeping together, but that it had been going on since BEFORE the like us series even started!!! That may have been the most shocking reveal in any of your books. Did you know while writing the like us series that Leo and Becketts banter wasn’t just flirting and that it was actually foreplay (I definitely didnt)? Did you always plan to reveal this along with becketts sexuality during SS, or did it happen more organically when writing the book. Looking back, I can’t believe I didn’t think you’d reveal it here…of course it had to have been in toms pov. Even Ben told us how much a secret like that would affect tom.

I absolutely loved the parallel of Phoenix hiding that he knew French from Charlie & Beckett similarly to how Ryke did from Connor & Rose. Was that an intentional parallel to the addicted series?

I'm just so excited for this podcast! I absolutely loved all of the song titles Tom and Phoenix came up with. Was that an easy process to come up with fitting song names, or did it prove difficult to name the tracks?

There were a lot of parallels between the beginning of Tom and Phoenix’s career to yours. A lot of things like earning out your advance to make royalties and putting out a lot of content to keep momentum were things you have talked about in podcasts before. What would you say was the biggest thing from your own lives/careers that you put into this book.

Not a question, but I loved the parallels to kiss the sky in this book. Specifically how tom literally says the phrase “kiss the sky”. It was a beautiful homage to his parents.

Was there talk on Tom going into hard drugs or it was always just going to stay on Adderall? Also the Adderall situation really brought back memories when it comes to Connor in his books and at the time I thought he was going to have a problem with it aswell. Was that an on purpose parallel?

Without going into any details, or giving away any spoilers, in your opinion was there something in SS that could hint at which brother has book 4?

I haven't done my reread yet and I flew through the book so this might have been answered but can Phoenix and Birdie sing? If they can sing are they good singers

Hahaha at this point if he was able to predict that Birdie and Leo would end up with his sister and brother he would actually drop dead from shock.

I was really shocked by how hesitant Roxanne was to talk to Charlie. What was going on in her head? Because at first I thought that she was hesitant due to his reputation. Roxy socks probably didn’t want to annoy him or me rudely dismissed or maybeeeee her reaction had a different meaning 👀

Tom and Connor’s phone call was one of my favourite parts of silver sweet. It was such a tender moment, and I love seeing how Connor interacts with each of his children. I was curious as to why Connor didn’t mention that he also used Adderall at one point in when he was in his early twenties to cope with an incredibly busy schedule. Do any of his children know about that, or is it just not something he would share with them? As I was reading the phone call, I was convinced he was going to bring it up, so I was a little surprised when he didn’t.

Harriet's mom, Hope. Can you talk at all about how she got past security? When Phoenix first arrived at the apartment, he was given a hard time down in the lobby. So was Harriet back in BB. How manipulative is this woman?? 😭 Did any of the bodyguards get a dressing down after word spread that she made it up to the actual apartment? And did you always know that Phoenix and Tom were going to be the ones to confront her? I wonder how that scene would have went down if one of the other brothers was home instead...

Can you tell us what decided that Beckett gets with Joana and Leo? I am really glad that is going to happen but you were unsure for quite a while and all three are headstrong personalities. Can you give us a hint about their relationship? I am starting to "fear" that Beckett will be last....

I wanted to ask you about the writing aspect of the sibling/family relationships. Tom is hilarious, his pov and his voice was a treat to be in, but not only for himself but for every character he interacted with. I feel like in BB you captured perfectly the turmoil in Ben's pov, you could feel the distance, the way certain aspects of the chaos affected him, and I feel like as the reader we could feel it and made us not enjoy those aspects of them the same way. Though in the Christmas bonuses, were he is in recovery and knows what's happening to him, we can see glimmers of hope and we can see how he enjoys the banter and chaos more which allows to do the same as readers. With Tom though, it was the other way around. Charlie being the easiest example. Ben reminded me of Moffy on the first books were there was so much animosity that you as reader found it hard to find something to like (also charlie was a big ass to both, let's not kid ourselves haha). And Tom's pov reminded me of Oscar, how charlie would do charlie things but there was a sense of enjoyment in the banter and back and forth. I feel like with Tom it was Oscar but to the hundredth degree. We could see how tom enjoyed that prickly mean side of him, he enjoyed bantering with him and let slide almost everything. Which as a reader made Charlie one of the funniest characters in the book, and as soon as I saw his name appear I knew something funny would come out of a TomxCharlie combination. And that with every single character. Tom was a joy. And my question, hahaha I swear there's one, is how different was it for you two to write Tom compared to Ben? I would love to hear about the writing process of imagining how the different dynamics had to be, and how you wanted to change the portrayal of the characters that also appeared in BB

Like maybe she wanted in on the plan to bond, or thought it would be easier to say yes and clean after than give explanations about why she doesn't want to...

was it always your plan to have the hot drummer be birdie or was he originally actually phoenix but it was a new development for the series?

When Tom and Phoenix were being a little “rude” to her we saw Roxanne’s crushed and pained expressions, but she brushed it off really fast does that show us that she is used to people talking to her in that manner? Also she seems like the person who talks before she thinks and she winces a lot at herself while she talks. Is she unsure about herself or does anyone made her feel like that?

In Roxanne’s chapter it seems like Charlie and Roxanne have yet to be introduced to each other properly. Is this really true did they not interact at all in the past three year (excluding the one time in the dressing room where Roxanne didn’t answer Charlie)

So in the scene where Tom calls Charlie bc of Harriet’s mom showing up and Tom telling Charlie “Harriet’s psycho mom just showed up and called her a whore. Warned me that Harriet was going to fuck everyone in this apartment and cheat on Ben.” And Charlie answers with “And is she wrong? Harriet has already offered me a blow job.” I actually thought he was answering to the second half of the question especially because for one he told tom he had two minutes before their call was cut, so he didn’t have any time so indulge in what Tom was telling him and secondly this links back to Charlie’s worry about Harriet not getting help as stated in BB and in various bonuses. Also people need to understand that Charlie can see multiple outcomes and it is correct to assume that if Harriet didn’t get any professional help her issues wouldn’t go away. I would love to hear your thoughts bc I don’t think Charlie would call Harriet a whore.

I can just imagine Leo being *that* messy 🤭 and I thought that might have been why Beckett was sooo angry about it

I don’t really have a specific question about Birdie and Phoenix on the bus—the lighter scene. I just thought this was such a raw and emotional moment, so well done, and my heart ached for Birdie when he called himself a burden! I love the St. Pierre brothers so much 😭💜 I’m sure we’ll discover a lot more about Birdie’s struggles in Loathed Love, so again, not really a question! I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated that entire chapter!

hi girls! i've been following you guys for a while (2016 a while), been on patreon for a few months in the past, had to go and came back for silver sweet. since that moretti brothers bonus scene with my blood as soundtrack i've been dying for two of special interests to cross over again and boy, did they crossed. my questions are how much of twenty one pilots was the inspo for the carraways shows and were there more songs that you love and isn't on the playlist? me and a fellow twenty one pilots fan almost died with the refs ❤️

Can you talk a bit about the construction of this book? To me it felt like part 1 was writing the album/anticipation of them hooking up. Then part 2 was the tour and post sleeping together/figuring out their lives as a couple.

At the beginning of the novel, Tom invited Phoenix to some of his “blacked out” family days so they could work on the album. But then we never saw Phoenix at any of these events. Did tom just want to prevent Phoenix from meeting his brothers? Can you give an example of what some of these events were (I assumed it was Ben’s hockey games when I was reading)

I love the relationship and the trio between Ben, Tom, and Harriet! I have a logistics question that’s been haunting me 😭 Ben and Tom share a room… so what’s Tom’s policy when Harriet stays over? I know he kicks himself out when he realizes Ben and Harriet have *ahem* plans? If they DONT have plans, and are *literally* sleeping, does he still give them room by sleeping on the pull out or does he not care about sleeping in the same room?

@jared not only that scene, but once we get Becketts pov Id actually love to get the “apartment meeting in Charlie’s room” scene through his eyes. Both him and Charlie were really struggling when tom was talking about sleeping with phoenix for the first time. Looking back it’s clear Beckett really wanted to talk to tom in that moment.

What were some of your favourite things to come from SS that you feel like you could talk about forever? Mine are Tom and Ben’s relationship, especially how Tom missed the ‘small stuff’ with Ben more than the family vacation 🥹, and Birdie. Just… Birdie as a character. He’s SO SNDNJDJDJF.

In the chapter where the brothers throw a party in their apartment, Charlie has an encounter with a girl that’s very uncomfortable, if it wasn’t Phoenix narrating in this scene, and instead was Tom, would Tom act as similarly as Phoenix? Like not be able to tell if Charlie likes or dislikes it and just leave him alone? Thank youu

When Phoenix is on facetime with Tom and they get nominated for the Grammy’s, Ben and Eliot are mentioned and are celebrating with Tom but are Beckett and Charlie and Harriet there with them too?

Out of curiosity, a lot of us have been wondering about the big reveal in SS regarding Beckett and Leo’s relationship. Since we learned that their hookups started when they were both 19, some of us were curious about the timeline because we also know Leo was previously married. In the bonus ballet TV interview, Leo mentions being newly divorced at 21, which has us wondering: did Beckett and Leo start hooking up while Leo was still married, or is there something we’re missing in the timeline? We’d love to hear your thoughts on it or if you could share any extra context or clues about how everything fits together!

We see in chapter 9 that Charlie and Beckett knew that Tom was hooking up with RJ and they also knew he’s Roxanne’s cousin? How did Tom tell them about his on and off relationship with RJ and when did he tell them, right after his first time with RJ or he waited some time because he was nervous about telling them? The problem is that half the time I can't tell if I've actually found something intentional or if I'm just reading way too much into it. One of my favorite parts of silver sweet was how it felt very insulated. It really was Tom’s world and we were just living in it. We saw Luna, and other Hales were mentioned, but this book was way more Cobalt focused, and I loved it. Was that intentional going into SS, or did you feel like other Hales/Meadows/Abbeys didn’t have subplots that tied into Tom and Phoenix’s story (the way that Xander fit so seamlessly into Ben’s)? Either way, I thought it worked extremely well and I’m sure Tom would have wanted nothing less.

I had a question about chapter 41 to be specific about Charlie. Before the release there were a lot of questions about what type of girls Charlie hooks up with and you guys said that we see that in SS. There were two scenes that highlighted this, two scenes that were very heavy. The first one is on chapter 9 where Charlie tells tom that the reason the girl he brought over leaved so fast was bc she tried to push his cum inside of her, which is NOT OKAY AT ALL. Then in chapter 41 we see a random girl hug him from behind and then when he ignored her she hugged him tighter and touched him inappropriately (hands below the waistband). Where these the girls that you guys were referring to? We obviously haven’t seen how the hook up with the first girl started but I truly believe that Charlie, as he has gotten older, has experienced people respecting boundaries. A little random, but Silver Sweet showed us (yet again) that Leo isn’t really intimidated by the Cobalts. I mean, there’s Beckett, but idk if that’s exactly fair game hahah. It made me think back to the Burn Bright scene where Roxanne passes out and Leo seems genuinely perturbed by the possibility of the Kotovas showing up. You guys confirmed that this reaction means we can assume Leo has had past interactions with Roxanne’s family that may have left him intimidated. So I guess what I’m wondering is what’s different about the Kotovas that makes their protectiveness/intimidation factor affect Leo in a way the Cobalts’ doesn’t? Both families are fiercely protective of their own, and I’d imagine that would intimidate most people. Yet Leo seems completely unfazed by the Cobalts, while the thought of the Kotovas showing up clearly rattles him. Is there something specific about Leo’s history with the Kotovas that explains that difference? Or if that’s too spoilery for now is there anything you can tease about the Kotova dynamic when they come support Roxanne at the ballet?

Is she generally someone who overthinks what she says and how people are reacting to her? 2. I noticed Roxanne uses a lot of humor and self-deprecation when things get awkward. I had a question about Charlie and Eliot, specifically the fact that Charlie is sexually assaulted by people connected to Eliot in both CE books. In the first book, it was Eliot’s date, and in the second, it’s someone Eliot personally invited (Tom said Eliot will "consult their friend list" for the invites). Obviously, the responsibility for both incidents lies entirely with the people who assaulted Charlie, not Eliot. But because it happens twice, I was wondering whether Eliot being the connection in both situations was intentional? Eliot's arc so far seems to be him TRYING to be loyal and protect his family but failing (i.e. with the Jeffra nudes situation when he says "I try so hard yet it's never enough". Was Charlie being hurt by people connected to Eliot meant to feed into that arc at all? Especially now that it has happened twice. Or was Eliot simply the connecting character in both situations for unrelated plot reasons? The repetition really stood out to me and I can't stop thinking about it.

In one of the latest podcasts you guys mentioned that we would find out why Connor skipped Charlie and Tom for the sex talk. In chapter 9 Charlie mentions how his last hook up tried to push his cum inside of her. So is that what you guys were referring to? Also this ties to one question that is already in this thread but is this a usual encounter for Charlie, bc we have seen his boundaries not being respected since the LIKE US series and progressively it gets worse not even in the sense that the first encounters that we saw in the LU series weren’t bad but more so that we as readers get more glimpses into Charlie’s life

Like title reveal time, love interest reveal, showing the cover and blurb, showing snippets on social media or having special preorder campaigns, having ARC reviews coming in, etc? Or does it seem random for each release? I know you mentioned in the past that sometimes books pick up more momentum after being released, is there something after the fact that helps new readers find your books? I know this may be a difficult question since you have both indie and traditionally published books which have different timelines and processes leading up to the book release but so curious how it all works!

Honestly anything you can give us in the Beckett/Tom convo where he reveals he’s slept with men I am eager to know. I was thinking in the one scene earlier where tom mentioned that Beckett looked conflicted after Moffy being Bi gets brought up that Beck was going to say something then but he didn’t, How many times has Beckett almost come out to tom? Why didn’t he? Beckett is so selfless typically but he’s also so hidden and private how does that affect his relationships with his brothers? How was Tom able to let go of that so quickly even though is clearly wounded him and would’ve meant so much had he known earlier? I have like a million questions around that scene and would LOVE beck’s POV when we get his book

The whole dynamic was very relatable. What made you decide that Tom would be more inexperienced and struggle with sex, as opposed to some of your other characters? I thought this dynamic during the sex scenes was really unique compared to your other books.
