Sioned

Wowww that’s a lot

Sioned

I still haven’t listened but they’ve read those books!?

Angelina (Charlies version) ♟️

Yeah!! I KNOW I was so surprised when I saw it it was like when two worlds collide apparently I think it was becca who said she’d just read Indigo ridge and started Juniper Hill

Illyana

It feels like you plucked this podcast right out of my wishlist in my BRAIN?! Have you been in my brain... telepathing... *side eyes* Hehe I hope you guys can do these annually or bi-annually! Call it the, 'KBR Pop Culture Academy Awards spanning Games, Comics, Books, TV shows, Movies and Amazon purchases, Hacks and more!* It feels like like pop culture checkins!

Illyana

Have u guys watched Andor and Mando season 2 for star wars recs etc.? :D I utterlly agree with the latest season of Potomac! The entireeee season was literally hinging on a fake plot line made by the green eyed bandets, when come to find out, there was a IRL SCANDAL OF ONE OF THE GREEN EYED BANDETS, and they didn't discuss it at all?! Like... And then to find out what actually happened, you had to be a patreon to Giselle and Robin's podcast, so it was behind a pay-wall? crazy. The nerve honestly XDXD I also don't trust Juan one BIT. Like he just 'paid for a hotel room because she was in town?' a serial cheater like him...? Come on i'm many things but not stupid XD I did find the Jackie and Mia friendship crumble very fascinating to watch. I was really shocked. And then in the last episode come to find out that Mia was having financial issues all along?! Man i really hope these topics are addressed in the reunion. Sorry that was a major rant XD

Illyana

IDK specifically for movies/tv shows, but i know that the "league of comic geeks" app/website is where we keep track of all comics etc. especially comics that are coming and the reading order, and spending etc.! Highly highly reccomend! and if and when you do! pls let us know so we can cheeky follow you and support *dancing emoji*

Illyana

I was expecting you guys to discuss Rings of Power on Prime! Did you guys end up enjoying the show? Very important question for Xander/Like Us purposes hehe

Illyana

What were your guys' thoughts on the Star Wars shows like Kenobi and Andor? And of Course Lunas thoughts hehe. I've always wondered too would Luna be into Star Trek at all? The shows that have been coming out of that franchise are so underrated and so freaking good! SW kind of oversaturated the sci-fi movie industry and we forget that Star Trek is actually the first franchise let alone came before SW hehe

Illyana

I think i would have probably enjoyed Thor Love and Thunder more if i didn't read the comic it was based off of. It was based off of Jason Aaron's show and it was very serious and probably the most famous Thor run ever. And like the big bad (The God Butcher) was such an amazing antagonist to Thor and he made you think so much throughout the run and you almost were rooting for him in the end. Going to Mount Olympus having the whole hearing and it was just all so great! I read the run before I watched the movie very happy. And like in the movie the casting of Christian Bale and his acting was SO PERFECT, it felt like such a waste to see such iconic moments just be oversaturated with cheep comedy like, thor saying, 'you should brush your teeth' it just kind ruined the whole movie imo. And plus it felt like, 40 minutes of the movie was missing too?! they just rushed the kill of the God Butcher in the end? SMH. Idk, I think... Since Kevin Feige's right hand Jon Faveru moved to star wars (show runner of Mando and Ashoka) MCU hasn't been the same idk?

Illyana

And Oo with books! If you Like a mystery Thriller side by side to a romance in a series, K.V. Rose's Ominous Part 1 and Ominous Part 2 series is for you!! (the final book called Sinister is coming out this year). There is a Prequel that you should read after Part 2 called Ecstacy that happens between the timeline of Ominous Part 2 and Sinister. And it's probably very VERY close to have beaten you guys with top books of 2022/2023! But dw Donnelly and Luna save the day ;) It's dark romance, meets Stephen King meets dark academia. Plus it's a series, and the books are very long. I SWEAR i know you'd love it! You fall for Eden and Eli so hard and root for them so much even though Eli is so... enchantingly awful XD. Lot's of Loki in him i think. It's available on KU too ;) If you end up reading it pls pls let me know what you think <3

Anna

I recommend using 'Tv Time' for keeping track of tv shows and movies you want to watch and are watching. You can also make your own movie/show lists there.

Illyana

And with X-Men.. fear not! It kind of dips after Hickman leaves, but i promise you! YOU WILL LOVE IMMORTAL X-MEN. It is so character driven, very GOT/HOD. You basically get to experience krakoa through the eyes of each council member as an inner dialogue and it's so good! Emma Frost's, Hope Summers and Charles Xavier's was THE BEST. The Judgement Day Event was totally worth reading but skip the Eternals run recommendation as a prelude, it is not necessary to read imo. It was so boring i stopped XD But that then, Immortal X-Men directly ties into the event right now that's happening, called Sins of Sinister is SO good! And Kieron said he will continue Immortal X-Men after the Sins of Sinister event. They even made a really good trailer for the comic book event (there are no spoilers dw) that is so cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loXtfM4qiHY ! And I have such a new ship (FINALLY CHEMISTRY I CAN SHIP WITH) which is Hope Summers and Exodus! You will love them! It's like she's the one that wears the pants between the two, like she will literally be like with a straight face "Exodus 'Z' tried to kill me, and he will snap his fingers and annihilate them for her' but is Exodus's muse at the same time. Exodus is such a sexy like sad and gallant immortal XD. So please don't worry it's great! But aside from Kieron Gillen... like most lines are kinda not spicy at all imo :(. Honourable mentions Sabretooth and the Exiles becomes a continuation-ish of Hellions which is fun! And also X-Men Red! They did us Scemma fans really dirty with the click bait on the cover of the Second Hellfire Gala issue. So please don't get expectations up like i did, i was so disappointed it literally ruined my whole rest of the week XD

🙌🏼!!!

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Ooh it would be so much fun to do a bi-annual recs podcast!! We always love chatting about what we've recently consumed, so it'd be a fun regular thing if you'd all want to hear our ramblings 😂

Krista & Becca Ritchie

We are sadly behind on Mando! (At least I am. I think Krista might've finished.) And Andor is on my to-watch list asap. I heard it was really, really good! It was so sad that Robin & Giselle set up a fake storyline just to deflect from the REAL storyline! And yeah, why GO to a hotel to pay for the room and then leave? You can call a hotel and pay over the phone. You wouldn't need to show up. Mia seems a bit like a fibber/exaggerator so I honestly feel like I can't believe too much of what she says. She always takes things back. I *think* the reunion was filmed right before they released the cheating stuff on their Patreon, which makes it more aggravating because they did that on purpose, knowing it wouldn't ever make it on this season. ~ B

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Krista & I were pretty disappointed by the show. I wish I hadn't read so many theories as the show was airing bc I just wasn't shocked by the "twist" in the end, and I feel like the enjoyment really hinged on the twist. Also, I was watching with my SO who is VERY knowledgeable about LOTR lore and he was basically pointing out a better storyline, so I definitely feel like Xander would've been the same way (Summers would be a bit loyal to the text) and disappointed with the overall direction. We decided not to discuss this or House of the Dragon too much since we considered them more "last year" shows and not something extremely recent. Or else we would've recommended HoTD and probably said Rings of Power was a miss. But I'm still excited to see season 2 of RoP and where they might go with it. I'm def going to tune in. I can't remember if you said you liked RoP or not? Did you enjoy it??

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Can't say much about Andor yet, but I actually loved Kenobi for what it was! I thoroughly enjoyed it! It might've been a better binge show than a watch week-to-week show, though. I'd have to talk with Krista, but I think we'd both agree that Luna would enjoy Kenobi too. She is into Star Trek! But she's more of a Star Wars fan. Also, our knowledge of Star Trek is admittedly way more limited than Star Wars, so that's why we don't delve into it too much in the series/bonuses.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Yeah the God Butcher being underutilized and mixed in with the humorous tone of the movie just didn't work. I kept waiting for him to slaughter a lot of gods on screen, but that didn't even happen. It 100% felt like we were missing chunks of the movie. Ooooh I wonder if Faveru is the missing link! MCU has been struggling lately. Krista just saw Quantumania and said it was worse than Eternals. Makes me so sad. I actually had high hopes

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Omg Hope and Exodus!! I love new ships. Now I really need to catch up bc that romance sounds amazing! Maybe it'll make up for the lack of Emma/Scott content.

Illyana

I utterly agree :') I can't quite make an analogy on what Exodus/Hope as a couple give me when thinking like us characters, but they are very hot and unique! Hope is so much more interesting as a character than JG! Idk how they're supposed to be related?! Exodus is this... like duty bound to God crusader who has immense power and taking the coat off his back when puddles are around for Hope and is his Muse. Plus not to get kinky but i think Exodus is like an immortal aka thousands of years old, so AGE GAP KINK hehe. They rock! Pls pls pls keep me posted on your thoughts on all things! Especially once you hit Inferno! Emma is Mother Rex-ing there hard!

Illyana

I LOVE IT! I think this should become a regular Podcast every now and again! Hearing your guys buzz over things is such a thing to look forward to!

Illyana

Ah cool cool! Keep us posted on your thoughts on Andor and Mando once you're caught up! Andor is such a *different* type of show. It felt very... almost squid game-y at times? in the best way. I think because it was so unique it got nominated at the golden globe awards! And I utterly agree with Potomac. I just got caught up with the first episode of the reunion and Candice is CARRYING!

Julia

My sister and I also loved watching Degrassi and I couldn’t believe it just stopped after being on for so long! HBO Max was actually supposed to release a new season of Degrassi in 2023 but with all of the restructuring and cancellations, it got cut😢 For video games, I’m a lot like Becca and play sims every once in a while and that’s about it😂 but my friend who is really into video games recommended Marvel Snap, the Marvel mobile game. I started playing and am totally addicted!😂 It’s so convenient for me since it’s right on my phone. Also as someone who has seen all marvel movies and shows, the locations and cards actually make sense and are pretty cool so I find it interesting lol.

Illyana

Oh my yeah, i wasn't a fan either of RoP! Yeah I think they did the legendarium real dirty. It felt more like... a fanfiction? and a fanfiction nobody was on board with? XD You draw up a great point about how the whole show hinged on a storyline that happened in the last episode and was shoehorned in very cheepy like you said. My biggest problems though overall were: 1) Sauron/Halbrand is supposed to be a Loki-equse person that paid the Elves (which like u and Xander know in LOR is called his 'anatar' form, photo for reference: https://i.pinimg.com/564x/da/50/ef/da50efadbc02a8881a0ad5ed03a31612.jpg ) like a violin pretending to be one of them for not 1 day like it felt like in the show but for HUNDREDS of years. He was a mole implanted to slowly brainwash them into making the rings. And He is supposed to be think kind of almost Charlie-equse, elf, dandy cunning slytherin character and that was NOT AT ALL what happened with Halbrand. They literally revealed he was Sauron in two seconds and convinced everyone the rings were a good idea and like the last episode was just dedicated to that?! Just that?! 2)They made Galadriel probably one of the most beloved characters so bland. Like in her defence, every character was boring and was written poorly but my God did they really retcon her personality. And yeah we know she has to 'grow' into the LOR version, but like that still can't make up for why they wrote her to be literally like Captain Marvel ?! + as stubborn as a mule?! -.- 3) The pacing and topography (spacial awareness) was so off. Like Numanor which is supposed to be one of the grandest cities ever lived, they filmed most of those scenes in that same alleyway. And we barely saw any of it. Making it seem... less grand? And they travelled in like what 10 minutes from the Southlands by horse to the elf kingdom? One of the biggest deals of LOR is how time is so important. And how much the journey was important. And they just did away with it completely here. As well as not profiting from the fact that the Elves are at their highest and grandest. Basically being immortal, you have a different way and vibe to life which i don't think was emphasised enough in the show. They're movements and methodicalness should be a lot slower. 4) The mystery box plot that was Gandalf. Like WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE GANDALF. In their defence there are 3 wizards that we know of in the race of LOR legendarium that came to Middle Earth, but it would have been so much more interesting if it was the blue wizard or the one that went out east. Instead, they went the easy route to do away with Gandalf. And it's just like... again a bit cheep imo. Also he went from not speaking english like 9 episodes and than in the last one he's like dead ass fluent and british? COME ON. But yeah those were my main four points why i really disagreed with the direction of the show. The biggest one is the disappointment that was Sauron. They robbed me of a potential cosplay moment of Charlie you guys XDXD That being said him having cheeky chats with Easton would be sooooooo ;) What were ur main gripes about the show? x

Illyana

OMG I heard the same thing on twitter! I even saw someone tweet the other day, just in such a hyperbolic manner i had to laugh - "Antman 2 will make you hate movies" XDXDDXD like jeeez calm down xD but also that's funny af. I'm due to watch this sunday! So maybe ill let you guy's know what i thought in the friday hang out! Have you guys seen Avatar 2 yet :O I went to watch it for a THIRD TIME in cinema this weekend. And yes i'm going to pull a " yes i am obsessed with it, but i'm okay with that" meme moment XD I've been meaning to ask what streaming subscriptions you guy's have?

Illyana

OOO yeah! I think Kenobi was good and when Anakin Skywalker was Darth Vadar-ing i was PROPER SENT OMG! The chokehold he has over me is INSANE. I love to hear that Luna would love Kenobi though! I really enjoyed it a lot! And the reason why i ask about star trek is because after hearing so many people say that actually, star trek is the property that has been a hidden gem in the midst of massive franchises like the MCU, and Star Wars, that actually has been producing GOLD! And it just so happens to be in space so i wondered in Luna would be in the know ;) It made me want to do a whole watch of the whole franchise to get a pulse on it, cause i want to be in the know! Everyone i speak to is crazy about it rn!

Krista & Becca Ritchie

OMG YES she is JUST like Captain Marvel!!! I hadn't thought of that comparison, but you're SPOT ON! CM can be so frustrating, and I found Galadriel the same way, and often, I felt like they changed her personality/motivations from the lore just to fit with the plot that they constructed around her. Ohhh the set reminded me of a Disney Original Movie set. For so much money, it almost felt claustrophobic bc we were in the same alley the entire time. It never felt expansive or real, the way that HBO shows (Game of Thrones/HotD) do. And Halbrand traveled so long with a stomach wound while he was bouncing on a horse? And he didn't fall off? You definitely have to suspend your disbelief for the show. I felt like LotR movies paid much more close attention to things like that. I was okay with it being Gandalf, but not okay with how long it took to reveal what we all knew was likely coming. Also, SAME with him suddenly being fluent and well-spoken and throwing out a Gandalf-ism. It didn't feel earned at all. How did all of a sudden he become this wise majestic person when he'd been bumbling about for the entirety of the show? Definitely one of my least fav reveals. And I love Poppy, so I was also sad that Nori was leaving her at the end. Poppy turned out to be my fav character (much like Samwise in the movies). Basically everything you said is exactly my issues. I really, really loved episode 3, I think, where Arondir was captured. I thought the fight sequence was super cool, but after that, I really hated the direction and how he got out. A lot of it just didn't make sense to me. It felt like character motivations didn't really align all the time with what they were doing, like Isildur. I really hope they pay more attention to the characters next season.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Oh we LOVE Marvel Snap!! It's so much fun (kinda like a mindless relaxing fun). Can totally see the Hale fam loving it too!

alyssa ✨

The Last of Us was such a gem this year! Truly I think best show of the year for me. Also love Unpacking/Strange Horticulture!!!! Another similar rec: A Little to the Left! So soothing to put things in their little place and have an organized space 😂 but I get feeling guilty about gaming - I get that way too, it can suck you in and next thing you know hours have left you 🫣🫣
