Welcome to the newest Fizz Hangout! Every Friday, you all can stop by the weekly Fizz Hangout post and ask questions (to us or to your fellow patrons), discuss recent bonus scenes and/or podcasts with each other, and catch up on all the goodies you might've missed!

HANGOUT QUESTION: we love seeing your response to questions about the Like Us series, and it helps facilitate some awesome discussions! Each week, there'll be a new "hangout question" that you can answer in the comments, if you wish!

If you've listened to our podcasts, you may know one of us (*ahem* Krista) prefers to read books that have first person POVs. Becca doesn't have much of a preference. What about you? Do you prefer first, second, or third person? Or are you more like Becca and don't have a preference?

Weekly Recap

Happy Friday, magical & heroic beauties!! We are only one week away from Love N Vegas, and we're so excited to see some of you at the event. It's one of our favs because it takes place in the city that inspires our love of all things Circus Is Family. Speaking of events, we have an update about the Authors in the Bluegrass event October 2024 in Lexington, Kentucky. Unfortunately, we aren't going to make the event next year. We really try hard not to cancel any events that we commit to. And we're so, so sorry if any of you were looking forward to seeing us there. My (Krista's) upcoming wedding festivities are coinciding around the same time, so we just won't be able to make it. We hope to be in Kentucky in the future though! It's on our bucket list of events.

In better and brighter news, we wanted to celebrate fall and the spooky season by doing something special for our fall-inspired book Love & Other Cursed Things. On our store for the months of October and November, if you purchase a paperback and/or hardcover, with your order you will receive brand new fall-themed Mistpoint Harbor stickers, an October & Zoey character art postcard, and a bookplate character note. Stickers and art are designed by the very talented Haley Secen @wearecallowaydoc.

Writing is still underway as we make progress in Nobody Like Us. It's a bittersweet kind of book to write knowing it's the end, but we're still enjoying the process and all things Lunnelly!!

In Patreon news, we've been working on editing our bonuses and we had far too much fun recording podcasts this week. So in case you missed it, here's what went down:

- Monthly Podcast: Monthly Podcast #70: Sibling Duos - Discussing Like Us Sibling Pairings (Xander & Kinney, Beckett & Charlie, Sulli & Winona, etc.)

- Extra Podcast: Extra Podcast: Our Fall of 2023 Recs - TV Shows, Movies, Books, Comics, & Games

THE SIGNED BOOK STORE

Our signed book store is restocked periodically. Keep checking it to see if a sold out item has been stocked. Any new updates will be posted here:

REMINDER: MAJOR UPDATES ARE COMING

(this section is the same from previous weeks, but keeping it here for those that missed it!)

As we mentioned in the previous hangout, there will be some changes to the store in the upcoming weeks. As we dedicate more time to writing, we need to spend less time on other avenues. One of the big time commitments outside of writing has been personalizing signed paperbacks in our store.

So we will be transitioning our signed store to "signatures only" for ALL books except the newest release.

What does that mean exactly? When you buy a book from our store, the book will have our signatures in it but it won't be signed to a name. There won't be a "name for personalization" box to fill out on the site. However, our newest release will always have the option to be personalized. (Currently, this is Unlucky Like Us.)

What does this mean for character notes? We will still be writing character notes inside Unlucky Like Us upon request. That isn't changing! When Nobody Like Us releases, this will be the last book we will write character notes physically inside the book.

Good news! We know this isn't the best news ever, so we did want to end on some good news. As you may know, we've started adding character note add-ons to the Addicted Series. These are character notes that we've handwritten and then printed on bookplates so you can stick them in your books. When personalization goes away, every book on the store will have a character note add-on available. Each character note will be different for each book. So a Hardcover Special Edition of Damaged Like Us will come with a different character note than the Special Edition Paperback of Damaged Like Us and the Original Paperback.

Can you get character note add-ons without buying the book? Unfortunately, no. Character notes have always been something that have been "inside" the book, and even though these are printed on bookplates, we want to keep them paired with the book as this has always been the intention with character notes.

Will the character note add-ons be different than the ones previously written inside the book? Yes and no. It just depends on the book. Most of the original paperbacks in the Like Us series will have the same character notes. So if you already have a character note written in one of those books, don't expect the add-on to be a different character note.

When will this transition happen? In the coming weeks, you'll start to see books transitioning to signatures only. So before you see the new updates on the store, this is our little nudge that if you'd like personalization on any of the books, NOW is the time to order them.

Thank you all for understanding this change! We know it's not the best of news for those that like their books personalized, but we hope by reducing that time commitment, it's going to open up more time for us to write :D

If you have any questions about the store, sound below in the comments, and you can always email the store at kbr.authorstore@gmail.com xoxo

Sarah

I don’t care if it’s a classic. When it comes to romance novels I like first person, but anything else really doesn’t matter to me.

cass (ben’s version)

i don’t really have a preference. however, i absolutely prefer dual POV. i’ll still read a single one, but i love getting to see both sides.

Andrea

I prefer 1st person POV a lot more, but I won’t not read a 3rd person POV either. Sucks about the signing but wedding festivities ARE SO EXCITING 🥰

Haley Secen

I think I like first person POVs at least for romance and contemporary books in particular but for fantasy, I could honestly go either way! Can’t wait to see you guys next week! (Curious - do you guys think you’ll be able to do character notes for Unlucky Like Us copies like you did with MLU at BB? Trying to decide if I bring my people paperback or wait till it’s in stock on the signed store)

Andrea

Also will the glossy copies of Unlucky be posted to your site soonish?

Emily

I don't have any preference for what POV a book is in. I have honestly never thought of it until recently when my cousin said she only got like 2 chapters into a book and had to DNF because it wasn't in the third person (which I found insane). But I do really like dual POVs for like romance type boos because I love seeing the relationship unfold for both people.

cass (ben’s version)

also i have a model UN conference tomorrow. i’m representing USA in human rights council. super excited!!!

Ellieeeee

Absolutely first personnnn! In many instances I’ve bought popular books without knowing they’re written in third person 😫 I usually do not touch a first person book as I feel like I can’t fully immerse myself into the characters, I feel like it ruins bookssss

Megan

I used to not have a preference, but now I think I prefer first person. It makes me feel more "involved" in the story, but I will definitely read third person as well

Ellieeeee

Omg I just bought the like us series 2024 calendar by Margot Magique, I’m VERY exciteddddd, the sneak peeks of the images LOOK SO GOOOD

alyssa ✨

I don’t even notice what POV something is in until I’m deliberately asked 🤦🏻‍♀️ I just jump right in, along for the ride lolol Yay for wedding festivities!!! My heart just glows with happiness for you Krista 🥹 I’m holding out hope that we get a signing/launch event for Dishonestly Yours. The Ripped Bodice Brooklyn is calling your names, I swear it! 🤞🏼 (obvs no expectations, I’m just being a delulu girl in a delulu world) 💜

Mads

I mostly read first person pov but there are few books that I enjoyed reading third person pov but the number of them i way smaller. Most the time it depends on the author or how much I'm excited about certain books either way I don't mind much the pov and just need few chapter to switch my mind to it

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Krista is the funniest person in the bookstore to me when I go with her bc she will flip through the book and immediately set it back if it's in 3rd person 😂 She checks that before even reading what the book is about lol

Krista & Becca Ritchie

I think we will be able to do character notes for ULU at the signing (it will all really depends on the line and if I'm waiting for Krista to personalize). I'm going to try to create some shorter notes, so it'll be more probable that I'll have the time to do 'em!

Andrea

Omg nooo I’m not that bad 😅 I would 100% do that for 2nd person POV though…. such a strange POV lmao. Thankfully they barely exist

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Yes they will, woot woot! Likely sometime next week. We just received our shipment of them. We're going to try to post on Patreon when they're stocked and up on the site.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Omg that's amazing, Cass!! Rose & Connor would be proud! Good luck tomorrow *channels Coballoway energy for you* ⭐️⭐️ *hugs tight*

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Ahh yayyyy!! I love, love, love that she still creates them ☺️ The 2024 one already looks so pretty! ~ B

Krista & Becca Ritchie

A signing/launch event for DY would be so awesome. Especially at the Ripped Bodice in Brooklyn! Going to NYC in general is a bucket list (the trip we had planned got cancelled bc of Covid so a redo is in order!) and we would love to see you there 🥹

Lauren Gibbs

I don't have a preference, but it is a bit jarring for the first chapter or so if I go from one type to another? I read different types pretty regularly though, so I'm used to it! Also, Happy Friday! I hope you both have a great weekend~

Caro

I'm currently stuck in a horrendously long queue at immigration at LAX but it is worth it to be able to meet you guys next weekend at Love N Vegas!

Marcades

First person almost always except for fantasy or thriller! But I can get over it pretty easily if its a book i’m really into!! I find it a little difficult to jump from one to the other like how it is in some books. For example, ACOFAS (the chrismas novella in ACOTAR) jumps from first person to third person depending on who’s POV you’re in, and I find that to take me out of the story a bit until i adjust again!!

Sarah

I have no preference, just as long as the story is good.

Arrow

I don’t have a preference for POV. I love your promo for Love & Other Cursed Things! Just bought one!

Joanna

I definitely prefer first but can adjust pretty quickly.... unless it's a M/M third person-- those can seriously mess me up until I get into the writer's flow! What I really gravitate towards are duo/multiple POV's. At this point, it is almost impossible for me to get into a romance with only one POV.

Jess

I will read all POV's.

lex

i’ll read all POVs but i definitely prefer first person. it’s so fun being in a characters head and genuinely experiencing what they are. i think it makes emotional scenes even better because you understand the personal connections that the character is feeling

Angelina (Charlies version) ♟️

Duel first person POVs are my preference I tend to get bored when reading any other POV even first person with one POV is hard to get into

Teresa

I have a suggestion for you ladies ,maybe a model you can use for Winifred is Cate from Gen V. I don't know all Winnie physical attributes so I could be wrong but it's an idea😄

Shea Thompson

I still read both 1st and 3rd person POV. I used to say that I didn't have much of a preference but I discovered that I really don't like 3rd person POV in AUDIO. And it seems especially true for M/M romance books.

Teresa

I only read 1st person it takes me out when I try to read in third person.

Arrow

I just started watching the Beckham documentary on Netflix. It’s a lot better than I thought it would be. I binged it all in one sitting. It plays like an angsty sports romance. It also has a lot of addictedverse vibes (especially the Lilo and Kitsuletti books). With a massive side of millennial nostalgia. I remember thinking - the first time I read the Lilo books especially - that the fame/media is just too over the top to be real. But the Beckham documentary (especially episode 2) really puts that thought to rest! You both really nailed it.

Illyana

Hello and happy Monday ladies! I think i don't mind? I tend to prefer in first person because i feel like i get 110% of the feels (KBR universe novels, All Souls, Realm of the Elderlings for example) but i also really enjoy Brandon Sanderson's third person. But the trouble with third person, is i feel like you fall into the "tell" and not enough "showing". If that makes sense?

Illyana

I wanted to reach out and tell you guys i have FINALLY started the star wars legends comics (using a certain gift from ahem *cough* a special someone queue heart strings being pulled!) and am really suprised how amazing the art is for 90s comics! OMG!!! Although I am only at issue 3 i feel like i am being a bit info dumped at the beginning? It's always hard with Star Wars names (am i the only one) and there are so many characters and ur kinda thrust in the middle of it all. Will i feel more at ease later on? I feel like my brain is going at 110mph reading these comics (for reference at brandon's i'm at a healthy 70mph ahah). Will it get easier? Or more settled? I know we both LOVE character driven stories over plot ones (xmen for example is currently plot) so I do have faith it will be that if you guys are suggesting it :))

Sioned

Oh my gosh! I watched that last week and I too can attest to how brilliant it is!! Soooo much better than what I thought :)!

Rebekah

I prefer dual first person point of views or third person as long as I’m still getting the thoughts, feelings, reactions, etc. from the main characters. Also, will the description of ULU in the bookstore change from matte cover to a different description when it becomes available?

Arrow

I know! I’m still thinking about it today. I really liked how much it showed of the Beckham family & the Beckham romance.

kelsey

i’m a bit late to this hangout, but i don’t have a preference at all, actually! i will say, if a book is…not good, it being written in first person makes it worse for me :/ on another note, i’m LOVING the new author photo for patreon!! you ladies look fantastic and i’m loving the pink 💓🫶🏼

Megan Garcia de Leon

first person, i cant read 3rd person. It just takes me out of the story

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Ahh can't wait to see you this weekend!!! Hope you got through the airport okay! *hugs tight* xoxo

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Thank you so, so much for buying one!!! We hope you enjoy it and the new art!! xoxo

Krista & Becca Ritchie

I definitely think it gets easier the more you read them, and if anything doesn't make sense (name-wise or planet-wise), you'll pick up on it later on or it might not be all that important to remember. The Star Wars comics also do a really good job of recapping the previous comic beforehand, so if something sort of breezed past you, the summary recap will jog your memory. And the characters that are important show up multiple times, so it becomes easier to remember their names. The reason why I think it's so good is that you see a lot of world building within certain planets and the history of what happens with the Sith and certain Jedi Masters and their apprentices, so it feels very "evolved" if that makes sense, the more you keep reading. The art is super pretty! And I like that it's not as cheesy as old 70s Marvel comics. The plots are actually very entertaining to me and surprising. Like the first set of comics (I believe) you'll read will follow the tale of two orphans, basically, and you'll get a real conclusion to their story. But the planets they're on and certain Sith will live on in history as the years pass by, which is what makes it so unique and interesting. It's cool if you kind of think of it as a Sith origin story. This is the history of the Sith and the planet Yavin. Then you'll meet more Jedi-to-be like Nomi Sunrider with her daughter, then Ulic Quel-Dromo and Exar Kun.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

I'm not positive about this (I'll check with Krista), but I'm pretty sure there *should* be something that'll say it's a glossy cover and not matte in the description at the very least. We just got our big glossy shipment in (they're so pretty!!) and they should be up on the store shortly 💓
