Welcome to the newest Fizz Hangout! Every Friday, you all can stop by the weekly Fizz Hangout post and ask questions (to us or to your fellow patrons), discuss recent bonus scenes and/or podcasts with each other, and catch up on all the goodies you might've missed!

HANGOUT QUESTION: we love seeing your response to questions about the Like Us series, and it helps facilitate some awesome discussions! Each week, there'll be a new "hangout question" that you can answer in the comments, if you wish!

Thoughts on Movie/TV adaptations of your favorite books? Do you like them or avoid them? And would you rather your fav book be adapted to a movie or TV show? (This question is inspired by the fact that we're seeing Dune: Part 2 tonight!)

Weekly Recap

Happy Friday, magical & heroic beauties!! It's officially the start of a month, and it feels so strange to already be in March. January and February felt a little like a fever dream. We knew the top half of our year was going to be slammed with deadlines, but we didn't realize just how much we chose to take on until we were knee-deep in the weeds. But the end is in sight! We're nearing our deadline for Book 2 in the Webs We Weave series. These characters truly have won us over (not that they had to try very hard since they are professional persuaders 😂). But we're so pumped for all of you to read about them!

March is also a very special month for us because not only is it our birthday month, but we will be splitting up for the first time in *checks watch* 33 years. Yessss we've been living together our whole lives. We just wanted to drain all the twin-perks for all they are worth! Plus, we were living our Calloway Sisters fantasy of living together for as long as we could. But alas, it is time to part ways. We are currently packing and separating our things and then we'll have the official "split" sometime this month. It is super bittersweet, but we're both excited for new beginnings a la Rose Calloway Cobalt.

Speaking of Queen Rose, if you love Coballoway, this is your gentle reminder that there is a fantastic new bonus in the back of new print edition of Some Kind of Perfect. It's called "Curfew at the Cobalt Estate" and we had so much fun writing this one. You don't want to miss it!

Here on Patreon, the bonuses finally dropped. So in case you missed it, here's what went down:

- Main Bonus: Main Bonus #71: Fight Night (Oscar)

- Extra Bonus: Extra Bonus #83: Moffy & Xander's Heart-to-Heart

- Suggestion Box: Suggestions for the March Monthly Podcast

Sarah

I like them when they are really well done and follow the storyline as precisely as possible. I definitely prefer tv show adaptions though.

Andrea

I usually like book to film adaptations because I know to adjust my expectations (obviously it’ll be different than the books) as for tv show or movie it just depends on the book. I think I tend to like movies more than TV shows when it comes to adaptions.

Bella Stanley

I don’t really care for book adaptations as a whole. In my mind I’d just prefer to read what I love. Plus I am known to judge very harshly if they didn’t get things right (shadowhunters was done poorly both times although the movie is preferable and the first Divergent is the only good one in my opinion). I think if creators are going to take things out rather than follow the books like a script I’d prefer movies. They’re quicker and I’d rather anticipate a number of movies than a tv show which might not get renewed.

cass (ben’s version)

personally, i don’t like when my favorites are turned into movies. in middle school, i loved the movie beautiful boy. because of the movie, i ended up reading the book by david sheff and the two follow up books (tweak: growing up on methamphetamines, and we all fall down: living with addiction) by his son, nic sheff. to say the movie did the books no justice would be an understatement!! i refuse to rewatch it because how different from the books it actually is irks me haha. i might open back up to it if i see a good book to movie adaptation, but i felt burned by the beautiful boy movie

nour el sabbagh

to be completely honest I think of the addicted/ like us series turning into a tv show almost everyday if not then everyday. I feel like it depends on the book if there are many ups and downs then for sure tv series like there are four couples in the addicted series no way would that be one movie but also some people get bored so I have no idea. Even though the books go through different povs and couples all the characters are still involved and doing their own thing in every book which is why I feel like a series would work. For the like us series, I’d definitely say movie series since they aren’t connected in the same way and the timelines are different!

Melinda

Happiest of birthdays! I am a March baby too and I am biased, it is my fave month of the year. All the best on your move and fun and happy times with your next adventure! I am a huge movie fan. I will watch the commentaries to know more of the process of making a film. With that said it depends on the book if it works better in film or a tv series. I also understand that in an adaptation what takes a few chapters in a book would be maybe 5 minutes onscreen. So I don’t expect on screen to be exact from the book. I appreciate both for what they offer however, when on screen deviates to far from the book in regard to the core plot that frustrates me.

Kelly.

Happy Birthday Month!

Abby (Eliot’s version)

Ok so very few have been done well… like LotR is perfection and included EVERYTHING which is what I always want from books that are made into movies and if you can’t give me that, I don’t know if it’s always worth it… I think books being made into tv shows, especially like an 8-10 episode season for a whole book makes it a whole lot better and then they have the time to show all the intricacies and characters and not leave out scenes that would have been left out in a 2.5 hour-ish movie… For my favorite books, I just want to SEE IT ALL and if you can’t give me that, I’ll still watch it, but chances are I won’t appreciate it anywhere near as much as the book… I always go into them thinking “I am going to like it for what IT IS, not what IT’S NOT”, so I don’t allow myself to think about what was left out and just focus on what parts of the story they did tell and appreciate it for that… That being said, I think about the Addictedverse being made into a tv series ALL THE DAMN TIME and would LOVE for that to become a reality one day 😍😍 it would become my immediate new favorite cause I know you’d help them keep in what is necessary and make your characters look as fantastic as you wrote them 💕✨

cass (ben’s version)

i’m a film student and for fun i map out how the arcs would work if the addicted/calloway sisters series was put into movies/a tv show! it’s so hard, because it really can’t be condensed down, the books were paced so perfectly. like you can’t combine ATY and ricochet because of the ending of ATY making you want to read (or in this case, watch) more to find out what happens, and the beginning of AFN is the perfect cold open to a film/season. and so on so forth, each book is so perfectly paced. the only books that could be condensed together would obviously be thrive into KTS and HHF. ugh i could go on and on about this, it’s so fun!!

Angelina (Charlies version) ♟️

I really don't like them. They are so rarely done right and they leave out all the important parts and it's like butchering a beautiful story for parts. Its always so much less impactful and special on TV and then people watch the movie and say its their favourite movie but its like 1/3 as good as the book but now everyone only talking about this watered down version of the story!! In my opinion it should only be done if they include the entire book and they cast it right anddd they have enough funding to do all the characters and scenery exactly as its described in the book. On another note 🤣 not living together 🥹🥹 big things!! I wish you both all the luck during and I hope everything goes well!! And!! I'm so so excited for DY!! And!! I'm so excited to get a special edition character bookplate NLU!!!

Ellieeeee

It’s super sad to think of but who’s having Frodo? 🤭

Luna

Happy birthday guys 🎂💕! I was re-reading NLU and I noticed that Eliot didn’t buy a 2K coat bc he was unemployed and it got me thinking.. isn’t Charlie also unemployed and traveling and frolicking all around the world, living of his very large trust fund -oh, to be one heirs of a billionaire empire- So why couldn’t Eliot afford a 2K coat? Why is he stressing about money and acting like middle class young adult ? Is he *stingy * with money? 🫢 Also, I LOVEEEE the new Pinterest boards I’m obsessed already with Phoebe ( now that strawberry in the cover is making more sense jeje) and I was wondering when the new Pinterest board for the new character of the LU series ( or maybe CE series?) is dropping? 👀

cass (ben’s version)

just checked out phoebe's board and i love her already!! also, as an ex-country club hostess, i love her even more. that job is not for the weak!!

Lauren Gibbs

Happy Birthday month!! I can only imagine how bittersweet it's going to be to be apart. For adaptations, sometimes I end up watching adaptations of books I've never read and sometimes I never watch the adaptation of books I've read so I'm pretty 50/50 I guess! 😅✨️ I'm so excited for Dune Part 2!!! 😍😍

Elle

Happy birthday!! Personally I’m wary of book adaptations bc I have a vivid imagination and will sometimes get disappointed by other people’s portrayals, or they’d leave out fun characters or plot points. But I’ll still watch them bc it’s just more material for me to enjoy about the universe the book(s) is/are about, not a replacement for the good stuff in the books.

Ellen

I so so so want the like us series to become a tv series or movie(s). I do too think about this almost every day. I would so love to see a farrow inspirated actors (finger) movements on screen, and also some towering Italian Americans, a chill donelly inspired warm hunk of a man, etc etc etc. I’m just so ready for it. The world just needs to see the beauty you created with the like us series, not only the world of romance readers, but also those who don’t read. Let’s share this magic. And I don’t mind that book inspired tv shows or movies have a different storyline. Such as with the virgin river books and series. I love both, the books and the series, ins a very heartfelt way. So I hope this question relates to some adventure you’re seeking out 😍 maybe some day in the future

Abby (Eliot’s version)

WAIT!! Where is Frodo going?? Are you doing the divorced parent thing - like week here, week there? You’ll also be close-ish right? I can’t imagine you two moving epically far away!!! But I’m sooo happy for you both because I know you’re excited about what’s next in your lives 🥰💕✨

nour el sabbagh

ohhh I see what you mean but to be honest I would watch all ten seasons if the cast and acting are right I love this series soo much 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹

Teresa

Hello ladies, will you reveal the next release date for the website we weave series once Dishonestly yours releases immediately after release or will it be announced much later. Also I sent you ladies a message on patreon I had a couple questions for NLU and didn't want to ask with spoiling it here. Also another quick question ladies ,is Xander still fight training I can't remember if it was mentioned in Nobody like us 🤔

Arrow

I love movie/TV adaptations! I’m good with either movie or TV. For series, I’d probably prefer TV just so that more of the plot can fit in (although I am good with deviations from the text to make things better fit the screen). Unless the series is wildly popular and will definitely get multiple movies.

Arrow

Me too!!!!!

❥ Cait (The Carraway’s #1 fan)

Hello !! 🩷🩷 I feel so protective over my favorite books, that whenever I see an adaptation is in the works I get a bit of anxiety 🙈. Generally though, I tend to prefer TV show adaptations because I think it can really develop plot in a more in depth way !! It’s really starting to feel like Spring where I live!! I was wondering if you guys find some seasons easier or harder to write in? Or if the seasons influence what you write? :)

Jess

I do like adaptations but they are hit and miss. I prefer TV shows over movies because I feel it gives more of a chance for the development and overall feel of the story. Some of my favorite TV shows are based on books I haven't read. Re: Game of Thrones & The Witcher.

Jess

I forgot to say (((HUGS))) on the transition for moving apart. I can't imagine all the emotions tied up in that. The closest thing I can relate it to is when my son and I have been apart. Currently he lives at home with me (He is 19) and that isn't changing for the foreseeable future.

shi luvs st.cobalt

I’m not a big fan of book to movie / TV adaptations. I’m a book purist to a fault, so I struggle with the changes that are made in adaptations (though I know that changes are inevitable, I still struggle to come to terms with them when they impact something that I love). I also have a fear — albeit an unreasonable, outlandish, one — that a person that’s casted in an adaptation will be outed as a horrible person and taint the characters that I adore, because then the viewers that are just familiar with the show / movie might associate the actions of the person with the character that they portray (which becomes a difficult situation to navigate imo). I do have more faith in animated adaptations, though! :) I feel like there is a bit more wiggle room with animated adaptations because they’re able to portray things within the book without it ever looking a bit strange (if that makes sense)? I think this applies more to fantasy adaptations in particular, though! I think a good example of this would be ACOTAR. The series is supposed to be getting an adaptation through Hulu, but readers have expressed concerns over how the wings will look on the characters (since some of them are supposed to have large, bat-like wings, and if the budget isn’t there then they could look a bit…rough 😅), but I don’t think that would be as large of a concern if the adaptation was going to be an animated one? I hope that makes sense, I fear that I over-explained that and muddied it up a bit. 😅 —— I hope you both have a wondrous birthday month, and I also hope that you enjoyed Dune: Part 2! 🥳🤎✨

Luna

This is so random but I was listening to Taylor Swift and a song came up titled "Cowboy like me" and is literally about two con artists falling in love 😍 it gave me major Dishonestly Yours vibes !! And the song was pretty angsty too bc the con artist didn't expect to find love or fall in love " forever is the sweetest con" 😭

Teresa

Iam curious if you ladies would ever do a separate series for the Rochesters , I think it would be fun to have a family of villains/antagonists and how there love interests make them alittle softer but they are still not great guys🤔

Krista & Becca Ritchie

I need to read the book! I'm not even sure if I knew it was a book first. I thought it was just a true story movie!

Krista & Becca Ritchie

YES about LotR! After watching Dune 2, it almost feels like it's as close to the LotR movie experience in scale and emotion.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Thank you so much for your sweet words, Angelina!!! *hugs tight* We hope you're having an amazing March so far!!

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Krista is keeping Frodo. As much as it pains me (bc that is my fur baby son too), he treats her like his mom and me like his play friend. He only recently even started cuddling on my lap. He likes to stalk me and pounce on me, and I just can't imagine him losing Krista. He could prob lose me and be okay. Especially because he's grown really fond of her SO, who's a good stand-in for me, I feel. (At least that's what I'm telling myself so it's not a hard goodbye for me lol)

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Love these questions! Eliot is used to making his income through the theatre and is likely feeling a sense of individual/personal loss that way (despite coming from familial/generational wealth). There'll definitely be more explored about things like this in the Cobalt Empire xoxo

Krista & Becca Ritchie

We still want to add some extra pins to the Like Us character boards before we reveal 'em 💕

Krista & Becca Ritchie

He's going with Krista! He's still my fur baby son, and it hurts to leave him -- but he really does see her like his mom and me like a play friend. I swear, he JUST started cuddling on my lap. And he's 9 lol. He just likes to swat me and pounce on me and stalk me. So I think he'll take me leaving easier than her. But I have visitation rights!! I am going to stop by and see him so much (and Krista too of course haha). We're close-ish. I'm moving about an hour away. It's going to be an adjustment at first, but we're both excited for the new beginnings (even if endings are always so hard *cue the sappy tears*) 💕

Krista & Becca Ritchie

We're not sure when the release date will be revealed for the second book. That's up to the publisher (and we still actually don't know the exact release date either). But we're hoping it'll be sooner than later 💕💕 Sorry about those late responses! We're a bit behind on messages again, but we'll get to them as soon as we can. This month is action-packed for us, so we foresee being a bit slow to respond for a bit. But in April, we're hoping to pick up speed again.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

We've actually found the dreary months to be the absolute easiest time for us to write bc we don't crave to go outside. We loveeee writing in December, January, and February. They're great writing months all-around. It starts getting harder in the spring and then the beautiful fall. Summer is a bit easier when it's too hot to step outside like September and August.
