The Book Club: Chapter 14 - Cover [Pencils & Inks] (Patreon)

For this issue's cover I wanted to have all the ladies present since it will follow them on their Spa Day together. I eventually decided I wanted them all hanging out in the sauna together.

I scribbled out a couple of other concepts before landing on the one I liked most. The last pic in this set I liked the idea, but the posing really only would have worked in a more horizontal composition. And since the covers are more tall than wide, it didn't really work. I then went to a more zoomed in shot with the ladies closer around Patty and that worked okay, but didn't feel very dynamic. Then I shifted to the overhead angle using a bit more perspective and I ended up really liking it. It really came together when I sketched in the steam and decided to put the words "Spa Day" in steam above them. That helped fill the canvas more vertically and improved the overall composition of the pic, I think.
