A TV show about young mutants attending Xavier's School, coming into their powers, and struggling to fit in with the normal students in town. Sounds like a great idea, right? Maybe if it was animated.

Generation X, allegedly following the group of the same name from the comics, got retooled into a Direct-to-DVD film that...exists. Honestly, I don't know what else I can even say about this movie. It makes a lot of choices, almost all of them are bad. But the one place it succeeds, against all laws of logic, is delivering a truly iconic rendition of Emma and Banshee. These two characters have never been done such justice before or since.

Also, yes, this channel has exclusives. Go check....um....August for the last one on Hoodwinked lmaooo. I do really appreciate yalls continued patience and support and hope to deliver more and more goodies to this patreon as we move forward!

Looking forward to the teen titans ReacTTs

An actual Patreon exclusive? I didn’t think it could be done

Luis Kaway

Yay another exclusive, a nice farewell to my poor money management skill.

"Spontaneous emissions of luminescent discharge" at 10:24 is wild. But not as wild as the Irish accent on the dude playing Banshee...

HungryWinner

Wow Emma and Sean’s scenes really were good.

HungryWinner

Emma is also in the x-men anime so she has two cartoons that might manage to dethrone this as the best Emma. She solidly has the title of best live action Emma though. Also best live action banshee.

Joe

I wonder if it was a deliberate choice to make Banshee's accent so painful

Fioch Halfblind

To be fair, Carrey was aping Frewer a little first since there's a healthy dose of Max Headroom in Riddler

Cheese Vikings

Nikhil I adore you and the video was very very fun but as a Latino it hurts me a little that you heard “local” he said loco the Spanish word for crazy he was calling him crazy

Curt Clark

I remember missing this in the 90s, just at the inception of my early onset X-Men brainrot (a chronic condition I'm afraid), and grilling my fellow middle schoolers about it every day for the next week. I built it up so much in my head that when I actually found a way to see it as an adult, 'disappointment' doesn't really begin to cover it. To be fair, you're right, Emma and Banshee were A+. However, that's where my compliments end. I HAVE been known to enjoy the odd Matt Frewer performance (he's great in Eureka), but in this? He somehow manages to be both WAY too much and not nearly enough to hold the movie together. I understand not being able to make Chamber or Synch or Husk work on a 90s made-for-TV movie budget, but they couldn't even give us interesting replacements. And also white Jubilee is...well, it's telling that they thought they could get away with it. I didn't remember anything about That Other Kurt except his name, and Arlie...I mean, dysphoria isn't an INVALID emotion but the others react to her like she was something she's not. At least the powers looked reasonably cool when those who had them were allowed to use them. (Mondo got shafted from all angles, through that's nothing new, I frequently forget he was even a thing)

Bailee

I kept forgetting jubilee was jubilee. Cause she barely used her powers, was white, and was obsessed about her relationship with her parents, who are dead in comics. So I’m counting this version as on original character, meaning that only really skin was adapted and even counter him is a stretch

While I love exclusives, this is definitely one of the channels I support more because I love the main content enough to want to make sure I do my part to get more. That being said, I will never say no to an exclusive.

Cat Lawyer

Please do Mutant X. It has nothing to do with X-men but definitely wanted to trick me as a kid (and did)

VicWeave

Max Headroom knows how to chew the scenery. Also I always thought he was supposed to be like a Shadow King knock-off.

Jesy Blue

I am so glad I paid for this. Your horrified expression going into act 3 was worth every penny! It was the exact same as mine watching it live the first time.

Igorina

I remember watching this when it first came on as a child and could barely remember it. What little I could remember felt like a bizarre fever dream. Until I saw you were going to be reacting to it, I'd honestly assumed the movie hadn't existed and that I had made it up. As painful as it was for you to watch I enjoyed your reactions. It was fun seeing that the weird memories I had were actually real and not something cooked up by my subconscious. Also that they were somehow more strange than I remembered.

Inquiring Raven

Let’s ask the important question: which was worse: Generation X or New Mutants

Jake Samuels

Really enjoyed your reaction, you continue to hit the perfect balance of entertaining and informative. I actually want to read the Generation X comics now because what you've shared about it got me super interested.

LexIsInTheBuilding

Good lord, this feels like a bad trip in the best-worst way possible.

Alan Scott

Even back then it was a bad wig. It was a BAD wig!

Jay D. Kurama

I knew this was the one with the yt Jubilee! Love the commentary and little insights you can give with these types of media. Great vid!

Stormy Sto Helit

I was going to suggest Mutant X (with an apology and warning for how bad it is!)

Bikkun

Jubilee being a telepath actually comes from Claremont-era comics. Because he had a Thing about randomly declaring pepole telepaths with absolutely zero follow-up.

Archaeolinguist

I don’t know that I’d consider Matt Frewer a *good* actor, but I am delighted by every character he plays, he’s just so odd with all of them XD

Morlock

its crazy that virtua fighter of all games is prominently shown here. was that intentional? a brand deal? or did someone just love sub par fighters from that era?

ConstantlyBen

Ah. The best actor from 'A Town Called Eureka' and his worst movie. Genuinely, he is so must fun. But here? Vile. I mean, so many funny moment but more then enough moments that are beyond uncomfortable. He's so much fun in better written shows and movies. Also you compare him to Jim Carrey, but those two are from the same branch of looney tunes personality, he arguably came first. That aside, this better than I remember it being when I was like, six at my cousin's house. A lot worse in places I can understand now. Like you said, far too sleezy yet bland. Then every so often a dash of cool mutant material. Love the reactions as always. Happy to finally be watching the patreon exclusives.

Chamber (Jononthan 'Jono' Starsmore) and Husk (Paige Guthrie) were originally scripted to be in the movie/pilot/show... but their powers were too cost prohibitive to fit into the budget, especially as this was intended to become a weekly Fox TV Show, and decided to be both a bit too body horror for Primetime. In place of them we got Refrax (Kurt Pastorius) with all the optic vision powers (initially X-Ray, Inferred, Ultraviolet, and a radioactive heat based emission, but telescopic, microscopic, subatomic, and more were planned as they are all way cheaper than psychic chest void onscreen all the time) and Buff (Arlee Hicks) with super muscles (easy to hide beyond having a body double for scenes when a close-up of how 'BUFF' she happens to be is shown, way easier than ripping flesh and complete transformation effects)... M is M Skin is Skin Jubilee is Jubilee Banshee is Banshee Emma is Emma and Mondo is sort of Mondo's powers with more of Synch's body type.... BTW: Get used to Mondo's actor's voice... you will be hearing a good bit of it in the Ben 10 shows once you get far enough along.

Jerome Davis

It is so funny that you think that Matt Frewer needs an excuse to ham anything up... the man is a Blue Ribbon Prize winner, he chews scenery better than a Langolier... finding an understated performance from this man is near impossible. Remember, he had to do with just his voice for an entire season what Jim Carrey did physically for two movies. He has had to keep up with James Woods and Bobcat Goldthwaite simultaneously. He has shared scenes with Rick Moranis in his prime. Possibly his least over the top role was in Watchman as a guy called Moloch. Taggart on Eureka, hammy Pestilence on Supernatural, super hammy Dulaque on the Librarians, wild boar in Camelot hammy

Jerome Davis

They didn't think they were getting a sequel, they were hoping to get a greenlight for a season, and then maybe 12+ more (hey, if Supernatural's Wayward Sons could go from 2005 to 2020, with a spinoff, and possibly coming back for more seasons... Generation X could have run from 1997 to 2010 with a Mutant interconnected universe)
