There are times when I will crop square which is not foreign to me since I shot 2.25 format film in Hassalblads for years. Some images just work better cropped square. If I don't crop square and crop it will be a proportional crop. I don't like cropping to some odd proportion unless a rare panoramic works into the mix. I guess years and years of shooting and printing pushed me to this. I try to crop the shot when shooting and in the camera.
