Doll on the Island
Imagine being out on the beach with the wind blowing a steady 20 to 30 mph, with deep strong storm clouds hanging so low it feels like you could reach up and touch them, and the waves turning over and over until they crash hard on to the beach. That was the conditions the entire day I spent working with Doll. And it turned out to be a great opportunity to try out some radical ideas with long exposures. I mounted the camera on a tripod and anchored it into the sand. Then I found the correct exposure to capture the action of the waves which turned out to be about four seconds. Doll posed perfectly still for the duration of the long exposures and that gave the stark contrast between her stillness and the water turning over and crashing into the beach. I loved this shoot. I can only hope to have this same opportunity again.
