Hey everyone! Next section in Bellagarth's Quest is pretty asset-heavy so it's been taking a bit to get it all together (I don't wanna drop a proper devlog too early, I'd prefer to wait until this section is capped off)

Here's a lil preview for ya in the meantime!

We're speeding towards the end of Book 1, and while I think that last 10% will be quite a bit of work (I wanna make it feel appropriately bombastic) I'm very confident I'll be able to get it done early into 2026.

Devbuild 4 feedback has been super important in making sure this game is the best it can be, and I really appreciate everyone who was able to take the time to play the devbuilds to help catch the blind spots I have as the guy making this damn thang. There was a few funny little oversights on my part, truth be told you're not supposed to be able to reach around 90% completion on devbuild 4, but the stopgap I put in straight up doesn't work for reasons that are a little too complicated to explain lol. Regardless, while the next build will roll back the progress percentage to something more in line with how it should look for the full game, it will not reset Bambi's size, so to the people who managed to get her huge on your save file, congrats! You're way ahead of the game lol.

Speaking of "ahead of the game", I've been thinking about the possibility of releasing a public demo of the game on Steam/Itch after book 1 is complete, and was wondering what your honest thoughts on that would be, since you guys are the ones making this game happen. Would it ruin the magic of this game being in it's little patreon bubble, or would it build EPIC HYPE?? Thoughts on that and really anything else regarding the game's development is always appreciated.

Weird fringe stuff like this has been under fire especially recently by both governments and corpos so I really can't express how meaningful it is to me (and the world at large) that fine folks like you are willing to support weird guys like me, it gives me POWER!! HRAAAGGGHHH

I think a good way to do a demo is by only giving people a nice peek at the gameplay like put them around the froblin area and change the story a bit so it doesn’t really spoil anything for them and let them play the first half of the cave area Tldr let them have a taste of the platforming elements like the level before the froblin area and the first half of the cave

Dude, i love the chelnok grabbing froblin bel is hilarious. Reminds me of guards telling us not to use our shouts in skyrim

Burger Kurger

Oh! A vertical slice! That's honestly a really good idea, I'll heavily consider that approach

Simon Genmachine

In my opinion, the demo is a good idea but it should end in swamps.

Burger Kurger

Heheh thank ya! There's a handful of silly froblin bel moments in this upcoming section as well ✌️

HOOORAAAAY

Vanish

I think the decision must be yours. As for me I’m gonna add this game to my steam library anyway😈And anyway the idea is cool

Biddybro

Feel totally free to publish a demo yeah, more people getting to know about this game and your fantastic team effort so far is always good. Honestly would love to see the game on consoles ha but steam is more than enough. Take your time and do what you feel is right, looking forward to anything you decide!

Burger Kurger

Right on lol, god willing it will be on steam officially at SOME point in time

Burger Kurger

'ppreciate that! It'd be crazy to see it on the switch or something but i doubt they'll let me lol

Mr. ∞

A demo is an amazing idea! Being on Steam alone will get more attention on it. More attention means more monies!

Biddybro

Understandable, quite unfair due to them allowing much worse stuff on the eshop. Might be worth a shot down the line but i'll be supporting you regardless, keep being great 👍

BigPen

A demo sounds awesome, hope it gets more eyes on your work!

ShoreMcLoving

I don't think it will really matter if you drop a demo. Even if the demo is everything we have access to it will become out of date pretty soon.

Grant Baxter

I think a public demo would be great and you deserve to get as many eyeballs on your work as possible! This animation looks so great.

Guy Face Thrace

I like that Bellagarth is asset-heavy. Oh, the game update, too.

I meant to give feedback to the latest build. I had gotten to the end of the last build, so I played build 4 on the hardest difficulty and felt unchallenged. Given the game is generous with restarting you in the same room you die, I couldn't even pick out differences from normal playthrough. Enemies could move and attack quicker in addition to dealing more damage, that way Huffhops and Berryblooms can stay in the same location for platforming but still pose a greater challenge. The roster of "humanoid" enemies feels sluggish compared to the spit-flys, rolling lizards and purple constructs. The gals should be more challenging so their own "game-overs"/ defeat sprites feel more rewarding. I'm forced to concentrate harder on the unsexy enemies, which isn't what I'm here for! The most interesting fight so far besides the Chelnok miniboss has been the 2 flying constructs atop platforms before the shaman. Avoiding the magic missiles and thorns below is etched into my mind in a good way. Enemy arenas/gauntlets would be fun in levels and as a separate challenge. Bellyfloping around the Fungus cavern was fun but I don't see much replayability after beating it on hard, again I wish there was more challenge to combat, and the trick to platforming seemed to emphasize figuring out what to do to proceed then actually executing it. But I'm more of a WG then stuffing guy so I'm biased. I wish there were more sections were you fight the bats that are NOT zoomed out so I can admire them more closely. I love their design and hope to see them in future levels, somehow. I'll admit I didn't want to grind parlor games or bigtop battles again, and used Cheat Engine 3 to get unlimited gold and purple stars to see Vera's sequence. I also cheated in unlimited XP for Bambi because I'm impatient. I like the achievents system alot though, and still tried to earn them after maxing out Bambi. I fell in love with Pizza Tower with the SAGE 2019 demo (wow that's 6 years ago now...), and so did thousands of others, so releasing a polished selection of the game would probably be good for visibility. I'm okay with all of Book 1 being public, I think ending the demo mid-book would be too short.

Thanks for the feedback! The game is definitely geared towards being more approachable to lower skill levels/people who aren't great at platformers which can be a bit dull if you're cracked at them. Kink games are uniquely tricky because there's a lot of people who will download and play not for the challenge on offer but to see the content, and I don't want to ice those people out with especially difficult platformer challenges if platformers aren't something they're great at. That being said I'm not at all opposed to beefing up more things on Challenging mode as right now all it does is lower your health and the poise cost of blocking hits. My priorities right now is of course to finish Book 1 but I'll keep that in mind 👍

Burger Kurger

True! But the idea of a demo would be more of a taste-test rather than an exact reflection of the current progress on development (thats what the devbuilds cover!)
