Shout out to our iconic patron Holly for requesting that we react to Taylor Swift's vocoder-laced breakup ballad, "You're Losing Me"! Steele was already obsessed and Palmer had heard it like once but it was fun to revisit. Enjoy!

I love the way You’re Losing Me calls back to so many other songs. “I’m the best thing at this party” = “Best believe I’m still bejeweled.” “Fighting in only your armies” calls to Great War and “if someone comes at us this time I’m ready” from long story short, sent you signals calling back to Exile, etc. And I just love the way the first line tells the whole story - “You say “I don’t understand” and I said, “I know you don’t.” - ooof. And the “My heart won’t start anymore….. for you”. Suuch a GOOD SONG.

Matt P's bemused face at the start of this song is killing me 😭 and yes, YLM was recorded in Dec 2021 but was released as the last bonus track from Midnights after Joever! It would have been a great addition to the album but definitely makes sense she wouldn't put it on there while she and Joe were still together. It was actually released pretty soon after the breakup. It would have been really great to have on TTPD but I imagine she wanted it out asap as a way of addressing the breakup since iirc Joe's team was releasing statements about how 'blindsided' he was. The lyrics are such a gutpunch - 'you might have just dealt the final blow' 'don't you ignore me' 'I wouldn't marry me either , a pathological people pleaser' OOOF

Oooh, that bridge is so so so good. I just love it so much. One of my favorite songs - it takes you on a *journey* . The space is worth it for the bridge.

Thank you guys for introducing me to this gem! <3 Just when I thought Taylor could not get more brutal with her lyrics in such a tasteful and masterful manner with songs like 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived', 'You're Losing Me' reaches my ears! WOW! Just fuckin' wow! Taylor never ceases to amaze me! And Matt (Steele), I too was just thinking how perfect this song would have been on 'The Tortured Poet's Department'...but, at least she released it (thankfully)! :)
