Definitely recommended it because of the Imogen comparisons and wanted to see how that was gonna go over with you 😂

Yeah, for me the ballads on here were so dang boring because they had absolutely no movement to them at all. Like, I need my ballads to have a swell, a push and pull, a peak, or like... *something* , lol. It needs movement! It needs dynamics! But otherwise, the upbeat songs were alright, but I felt most of the lyrics were more what people who don't read poetry think good poetry is, rather than what good poetry actually is, lol. They felt very surface-level poetry to me, where you try to say basic things with very fanciful words, language structure, or cryptic metaphors. The main mistake people make is thinking good poetry is about being cryptic or overly weird with their metaphors, and it's not. But I'm kinda of the thought that poetry's primary purpose is to evoke feelings, but some poetic styles try to distance the reader. However, there should be a purpose and meaning behind distancing the reader when that is done; a bit like how Stanley Kubrick shocks your sensibilities and makes you question your morality by presenting extreme violence - the purpose is not necessarily to glorify violence, but to evoke some reaction to that violence or how Terrence Malick uses voice overs and space to give you time to think about things that are sensible, that you can see and understand and process together. I didn't feel any of that with the lyrics of this album. But who knows, maybe my views will change if I end up relistening to this album.
