Just listened to RAYE's new album. It's not even remotely "self-indulgent". It's a retrospective album about abuse, sexual assault, alcoholism, and depression - hers and other people's - and about overcoming it, gaining self respect, and having hope. I just find it a little offensive that it's being called self-indulgent, especially as someone who has had some of the thoughts found on this album, and has NEEDED many of the thoughts on this album. Frankly, it's a masterpiece. It's better than all of Taylor's albums, all of Avril's albums, Kelly Clarkson and Lana's albums, all of Beyonce and Mariah's albums. It's a timeless masterpiece. There's like voicenotes from her grandad who's on his last breaths, her uncle, and other family members, her sisters sing on a song, and she writes a whole song for someone else.
