Chapter 1 (Patreon)

“The hell’s wrong with the world, what’s happening?!!” A shout of panic came from a man as he hurried inside a building to take cover from the skies…
It all started a few hours ago, thunderstorms of unimaginable magnitude started forming in the skies, but the strange thing was, it happened all over the world at once, land, ocean, doesn’t matter, thunder fell on them all.
All of this was enough to put even humans, one of the superior races of the universe who had awakened powers into panic, the internet was filled with all sorts of rumors, ranging from another civilization attacking or some slave civilization revolting.
But when the official statements from the divine authorities of the human race arrived, it shocked the humans even more, ‘This phenomenon signifies the birth of a god.’
A simple message, but a shocking one, and a joyful one too. Universe was not a good place, sure humans were very powerful, and had taken hundreds of unawakened species as slaves, but that’s what the inferior species were meant to be, just slaves, right?
What were the truly troublesome ones were the other awakened races, every race had different kinds of powers, completely different ones, for example, us humans, our powers are control over an element. But, there are many strange powers out there.
Like the last two races we fought a war with, the Krigritons and Wyums, the Krigritons had the same power all over their race, they could all fly, and they were all super strong, and,
Wyums were just plain annoying, they had some sort of energy within them, and they could create equations to do whatever they wanted with it.
But, that’s all about different races for now, because even within the same race, there are differences, like within humans, we use a ranking system to rank our individuals, a pretty efficient one, ranging from E-rank to SSS-rank, these ranks are used to define all mortal humans.
And no, the ranks are only a measure of strength, and status, being an E-rank does not mean that one would live a miserable life, working hard and surviving on tatters, barely making ends meet, absolutely not, humans have one of the highest living standards in the universe.
And working hard? Really? We are the mighty humans, we have like hundreds of billions of slaves to do all our work for us, humans are meant to sit at the top and enjoy their life, it does not matter whether someone is worthless, what matters is he is a worthless human.
And when I say mortal humans, does that mean there are immortal humans? Of course there are, that’s where we get to the point we were discussing at first, Gods, and the birth of a god.
Almost every awakened being has apex beings, and us humans have them too, though, I personally believe that our apex beings go a bit over the top, completely deserving the title of God.
The gods of humanity possess the ability of complete domination over one particular element. But that’s not all, they are so deeply connected to their element that, until that particular element exists, they would too.
In the 3000 year history of Homo Divinus – The divine humans, there has never been a single case of death of a god, and a total of 6 gods have been born up until now, with the last one being over 450 years ago, enough to signify the importance of the birth of a god.
And according to reports, the god about to be born, was certainly the god of thunder, an esteemed divinity, I must say, if we consider that ancient Homo Sapiens would often place Gods of Thunder at the position of a God King.
There is no rank distinction between the gods, and all the gods together rule over humanity, forming a council, The Council of the Gods.
The gods do not actively participate in internal human management much, but have the power of ultimate veto over everything, and the inter-universal matters are all to happen according to their orders.
As for how to become a member of the Council of Gods? Simple, be a god. If you are one, you are automatically a part of it.
And as crazy as it might sound, the thunder god about to be born, has already been reserved a part in the council, and the moment he/she is born, he/she would become a part of it.
Yes, a toddler would have the authority to control the entire human civilization, but hey, that’s just how humans work, and have been working.
Of course, all of these don’t mean that gods don’t get in touch with life of ordinary humans, they would attend schools the same way as commoners, during which, the number of servants serving them would be limited to 5, just like ordinary humans, and they would need to learn about the Universe and Humans, just like the commoners.
And, the presence of a god is more than just the presence of a ruler, gods are apex beings, and apex beings are the mark of strength of a civilization, kind of like those ancient weapons known as nukes, but wayyy stronger.
The more apex beings a civilization has, the more secure they are, otherwise, without proper strength to defend themselves, even awakened species might succumb and become a slave species, such was the harsh reality.
And everyone realized it, all the superior species, and all the slave species, after all, there was a reason why almost none of the slave species ever revolted, because they knew, until they awakened themselves, the best they could do was change owners, and awakened species also knew that the moment they got weaker, they would be devoured by others.
Humanity was a rather lucky race with having a total of 6 apex beings, and gaining one more meant more security, especially when the said element was rumoured to be the most superior one, if all went right, humanity might just produce their strongest being.
-The Council of Gods-
A building of grandeur beyond imagination, reaching heights which pierced the skies itself, this was the abode of the gods, The Sacred Temple, and the headquarters of humanity.
Within it, inside a massive hall, were six figures, three males, and three females, sitting leisurely as they watched the thunderstorms outside.
“The birth of a god is interesting, no matter how many times I see it… This should be your first time seeing one, right, Shuixian?” A tall man with bronze skin and red hair said, addressing the woman sitting closest to the window.
“Indeed, though I can’t deny, it feels good to know that I won’t be the youngest goddess anymore. Though, you should be the one to know the best about us gods by now, right, Ramesses, after all, you do have the title of the first god.” She replied with a chuckle.
“Well, there’s not much to discuss for us anyway, since the god of thunder is about to be born, it’s only fair that he gets a seat at the council immediately, we can only hope that he doesn’t turn out to be an asshole, but even then, no matter what, he would be one of the gods of humans.
And with a power like lightning the newborn god would definitely become amongst the strongest of us, which ultimately benefits humans as a whole.” Ramesses shared his opinion with a relaxed expression.
“Then what about those God King rumours going on?” A white-skinned man with blonde hair asked.
“Jonathan, you know better than anyone that as gods, we can’t just take any rumours to heart, it’s just baseless speculation anyways, and even if the new god lets it get to his head, we can just teach him a lesson why all gods are equal.” Ramesses chuckled again.
“All gods are equal? You sure didn’t believe it at first Ramesses, we both fought for centuries until Lily was born that you finally accepted reality and chose peace.” Came a smug voice from a brown-skinned man with a dense beard.
“Alright you guys, that’s enough.” Lily sighed, “We still have work to do, and you know that. We didn’t gather here to chat.”
“Yeah yeah, sending a warning to other civilizations so that they don’t strike now that we are busy with the birth of a new apex being, but surely it can’t be that serious, after all, only Earth is affected, and no matter how highly we place Earth, it is more of a memorial homeland of humans, not the lifeblood…” Ramesses replied with a tired voice.
“Well, putting on a bit of show doesn’t hurt, it isn’t often we have fun…” Jonathan chuckled.
