Hey there, I thought I'd give you guys an update. Yes, I am still alive! Let me explain. The reason the current chapter is dragging so much is twofold:

First, I had a ton of extra work this week and couldn't spend as much time writing as I would have liked.

Second, and much more importantly, I've struggled to write the last few chapters while trying to tie up all the loose ends. I've made a few spur-of-the-moment changes to the plot while writing this volume, and now I am trying to figure out a way to tie it all together. For example, the fight against Jaihar wasn't supposed to be the book's finale and I had originally planned for his family to still be alive at this point.

Therefore, I've been trying to make the fight as epic as possible, but I've been struggling. As it turns out, it is kind of hard to write a compelling fight scene with an MC strapped to his mount and unable to see (due to the wind pressure).

Over the last few days, I've discarded several (around four) versions of the fight. I feel like I've been writing more than ever, but my efforts unfortunately didn't result in an equivalent amount of chapters ;__;

Despite everything, I hope you'll appreciate how the chapter will eventually turn out and I'm truly sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the update! I trust the process so take your time :)

Better a fight you're satisfied with than something released with no delay that stinks.

TheAverageNerd

Appreciate you letting us know! Ultimately we(or atleast I, though I'm sure most would agree) would rather a good chapter that takes a bit to figure out than a bad one that's "on time". No pressure, and thanks for the update so we know you're alive!

IAMather

Appreciate the update. Maybe don’t make it an epic fight? Might get hate for that but having Zeke and the dragon just absolutely crush him is kinda what I was expecting after being left to die in the desert. You can always pov another character/s to fill chapters in for the end of the book.

Aaron

I'm not sure the fight needs to be seen by Zeke. He exanguinated himself to provide enough blood for the dragon. I think the fight occuring from the dragons perspective would be excellent. The fight could even just be the dragon diving down and killing Jaihar. With aftermath of Zeke dealing with the auction house for screwing him.

TheRaptorOfHermes

Dont stress out too much, you have the MC tired from creating a blood magic body for the epic dragon who should be able to casually stomp Jaihar unless he plays with his food lol

Bryn

Thanks for the update! No stress! Also, and I hope you don't mind the unsolicited advice, but please don't be afraid to schedule a break in every now and again. I don't think you've had one in like a year from what I can tell from how consistently you release new chapters, so I just thought I'd throw that out there! Might even help with story planning and building a chapter backlog, and as long as you communicate it properly I think people would be okay with it. Anyway, just wanted to make sure you're looking after yourself!

It would be very funny if the dragon just easily kills Jaihar. It would also cement Zeke's power. Epic fights are all well and good, but this power play just kind of reeks of greed. The dragon just stomping it out would be a nice picture. That said, its the author's story, anything else will certainly be just as impressive!

Gwalmeich

Just crush Jaihar. Some people mentioned that idea and I think it fits. Sometime keeping things simple is the best you can possibly do. You don't need a long fancy fight in that specific case, just a good o'l trashing followed by another point of view to tie the story together.

Mezhone

I would love the anticlimactic end to just be dive, chomp, done.

Cunan

Appreciate the update! As others have said, I think an epic fight should be reserved for an epic opponent, which jaihar definitely isn’t, a stomping from a different pov seems to fit him.

Pandachi

I’m with the dive chomp and done

ZaA

Not all fights need to be long and drawn out. Write it as a one shot and then cut to a couple peoples reactions and call it there. Sometimes an easy fight when it shouldn't be easy is what's cool. One shotting a "superior" enemy makes for a pretty cool thing

Narthor

Maybe post the different version and we can have a vote of which one suits best

Dawn Polaris

To me jihar shouldnt put up a good fight at all 🤣 he should just be humiliated and stomped into the ground

Gremory

I agree with many of the other readers, I don’t think this needs to be an epic fight, in fact I think to solidify what I believe your trying to do in this book ( show Zeke solidifying his power base into a new country) I’d say this is just the way to end it. If Zeke obliterates a Grand Mage as a True mage, that’s going to instantly make every other power take a step back, and acknowledge that they most likely cannot simply overpower him or his family/intrests.

Just dive bomb the little #$%& with the dragons claw landing on jaihar skewering him with his claws then dragging him across the arena leaving a long smear on the ground. End fight with zeke sliding off back staggering to center of arena, announcer doing winner the blood dragon and then him passing out.

I suppose we all should believe in our author and his plans for the book. If he finds this fight important, he should write it the way he sees it. It's Elara's work - something we verily like. It's better spend more time on writting something incredible than creating something average in a short time.

Storyflower

Though true, I often see authors struggling with action scenes that then cause delays in their output; while for me as a reader it is the tension building up to that moment of release, where the quality in story telling lies.

Eidetic Eidolon

Just my opinion, but fight scenes are the least important thing in a book. Honestly, just the shorter the fight scene, the better. It's hard to believe a supposedly awesome main character is truly awesome when they are constantly engaging in multi chapter fights. The bigger the badass, the quicker the finish...or at least that's what I tell my girlfriend...no, but really.
