Hey guys! So sorry this is so late! I was out all day today and had thought I had scheduled to post this this afternoon, but I accidentally scheduled it for tomorrow! 😅

I realised after I filmed this that this is actually series TWO, and not series ONE. There must have been a discrepancy when I downloaded the episode. I do like to watch the episodes in order, but Fawlty Towers doesn't appear to be one of those shows that has a series storyline, so I don't think it really makes a difference!

Anyways, it seams I'm a bit all over the place aha sorry again! Hope you're having a great weekend :)

It happens to the best of us, no worries😉Like you said, you can get away with it if it's a show like Fawlty Towers. Great episode, though they all are! The scene where Basil is on the ladder, and then off it😄is my earliest memory of the show! so funny then and it still is now. Prunella Scales is actually OLDER than John Cleese by a good couple of years. Considering that the 70's is known as the Golden Age of Sex I've always been suprised that having a guest was such a big no-no, though Basil is part of the previous generation who likely frowned upon all the 'openness'.

Basil is actually based on a manager of a hotel in Torquay, that the Python's stayed at when they were on the road. He placed Eric Idle's suitcase, which contained a ticking alarm clock, behind a wall in the garden in the fear it contained a bomb. He also denounced Minneapolis-born Monty Python group member Terry Gilliam's table manners as "Too American". Everybody except Cleese left, who stayed behind to study him. Then a few years he created Fawlty Towers!

Don't know if you're much of a reader Meg, but Michael Palin's diaries give some very interesting insight to do with Monty Python and related works. They come in 3 volumes: which begin during the early day's of Python and end when he's just beginning his Travel doc's. That's where I remembered the story about the hotel manager😀btw, you must watch A Fish Called Wanda with Palin, Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Kline. I doubt you'll regret it😉

oh really?? I was talking about the doctor and his wife, but Prunella looked quite young too! That's surprising that she was older than him! Good point about Basil being from an older time, though!

oh fun! Thanks for sharing :) It's always interesting to learn where the ideas for shows come from!

Thanks for letting me know! I'll have to check them out :) aha yes I've had a few people recommend a Fish Called Wanda to me! I'll definitely have to watch it 😆

Must admit, I wasn't completely paying attention at the time😂

I think in a hot summer a guy could still wear similar and be ok - 1970s fashions were a trip though . But then I watch something on YouTube like Frank Zappa interviewed by Mike Douglas in 1976 , and it’s Zappa whose clothes look still cool as f… , and Mike Douglas clothes look - odd, and uncomfortable.
