There’s something massively inappropriate about Simon’s dad’s reaction. Sure, Simon wasn’t interested in young boys, but he still tried to climb into a girls bedroom in the middle of the night and touch her.

To be fair to Simon's Dad, I think it was more relief that he wasn't touching up a little kid. But yeah, thinking about it, a common trope in TV/films is the teenage boy climbing up and breaking in to a girls bedroom without her knowledge, and it's often passed off as completely normal, or even a romantic gesture!
