Trouble & strife = wife Bricks & mortar = daughter Bees & honey = money Elephant’s trunk = drunk My god though he uses so many, and most I’ve never heard of! Some of them might have been made up by Ronnie Barker, but who knows. An extra confusing thing about cockney rhyming slang is that in conversation they often just use the first word of the slang term (so “I’m off to meet the bricks” would mean “I’m off to meet my daughter”). I’m convinced our regional slang and dialects were created just to mess with peoples heads!

You should check out the Pitmatic accent and dialect (a North East variety which evolved in the coal mines). I lived in County Durham for a few years, and had a neighbour who spoke with a Pitmatic accent, it was like we were speaking completely different languages!
