I love this episode the way Basil behaves has me in stiches, regarding the wind, we have the pouring rain too up north in Yorkshire. I hope you are having a great Saturday Megan.

MeganRuth

😂 he's hilarious! Ah, it's a bit wet in London but not pouring rain. Same to you David! 😊

I did a forklift truck course (didn't pass and had a slight crash in a barrier, but my first ever time behind the wheel, so gave myself a pat on the head for going way out my comfort zone.) in the summer and part of the course was customer service and the references to Basil in how not to behave were many. Thanks for the laughs this rainy day.

A bit windy, and just a little bit rainy where I am too. In short we're all getting it through the nation today, and more than fulfilling the Brit stereotype of talking about the weather😄

Brodie Vickers

a Canadian actor playing an American, had you fooled 😉 Though that wasn't exactly a rare thing, especially during the '70s. Not the best episode from this show, but still a good one!

It's so on the nose. It's obvious "how they get away with it." The British don't complain enough because they are polite to a fault. We need to be more assertive so that service improves.

I worked at Butlins in Minehead for 2 years, some years ago as a waiter. So I know exactly what you mean about working in the service industry. Great reaction Megan

MeganRuth

😂 I didn't even think of that! But yes, very fitting to talk about the weather under this video 😆

MeganRuth

oh really? I would have never guessed he was Canadian! He sounds very American.

MeganRuth

of course!! Her music was in Saltburn :)

MeganRuth

ahh yes it was quite the experience! Thank you 😊

Brodie Vickers

Yeah that's true!! I do really admire her natural talent :)

Brodie Vickers

That means he earned his pay that day haha

Brodie Vickers

I think that can apply to any customer facing job😂

Waldorf Salad once was very easily available here in Germany, too. Factory made, and in some restaurants. But it just went outdated a long time ago. I think at least 20 years ago now. Food trends changed, especially if there was mayonnaise in it, haha.

SnabbKassa

The "Is the war still on?" comment is actually a good question, because the effects of the war lasted well into the 80s. Basil should have said "yes, sort of". The U.K. only paid off the last of its World War II debts to the U.S. at the end of 2006. In many ways the 1970s was the UK's lowest ebb.

MeganRuth

ah fair enough! Mayonnaise is an interesting thing to put on a salad to be fair 😅

MeganRuth

wow interesting! I didn't know it took that long to pay off.

Yeah, I understand perfectly about the American stereotype of customer service, the "customer is always right" mentality. And I have to say that much of the time it's stupid and a lot of my co-workers think it's mostly nonsensical. A lot of customers always look for ways to nitpick and grab themselves attention. And they always try to make things melodramatic and if they don't get their way they'll contact the higher-up's. I try to stay away from such drama and just live and let live.
