Excuse me, the decorating of the pub was being funded by the brewery but organised by Mike Fisher. Mike was going to go with Derek Boy's quote of £2000 over the Irish fellas quote of £1000 so that Derek and Mike could take £500 each and then give the remaining £1000 to Brendan who was actually going to do the work.

I enjoyed the stereotype of the Irish painter and I enjoyed the stereotype of the Italian pet shop owner. I also enjoyed the stereotype of the jive talking black gentleman. This episode would only have been better if we got to hear Del's pal in Canada and they ended every sentence with "eh?" I enjoy stereotypes. They are a friendly form of racism.

Always good watching OFAH, and you will be seeing more of Denzil and Mike in the future episodes. Del Boy is a terror, I love the guy but wouldn't trust him with my wallet. That was a great reaction, the following episode is a masterpiece.

ahh ok! I thought Mike was funding the redecorating, so I was a bit confused!

Classic ep. I would add 'The Good Life' and 'Yes Minister/Prime Minister' to the (I'm assuming) long list of shows to watch 😉

Denzil ,and Mike (the pub landlord) are regular characters from now on.

Bobz

I would also add 'allo, 'allo' to that list. Cheers.

MeganRuth

I agree! Del is certainly a terror. Ohh I'm looking forward to it!

Bottom and men behaving badly, both from the 90's eserve to be on that list.

So, the thing with the pub decorating offer, and them getting £500 each. Breweries in the UK will often own a number of pubs, but they wont directly run them themselves. They'll put a landlord in place who runs the pub on the breweries behalf, in this case Mike. The brewery will invest money into covering various costs of the operation of the pub, after all, its good for them to have places to sell their products. That'll often mean things like renovations, but again they'll leave the management of that up to the landlord, and they'll just sign the cheque to pay for it, provided of course it is within reason. What Del is suggesting is that Mike simply tell the brewery that the redecoration work will cost £2k, so the brewery hand over that money. They spend £1k getting Brendan (the Irishman) to do the job, and that leaves £1k to just disappear into Del and Mikes pockets.

Jive talking black gentleman?!! Denzil is a scouser. Where exactly was he talking 'jive' may I ask?

Jeffrey44

Sorry Rob. I don't remember. I last watched this episode 9 months ago. When I watch it again, I will return to this comment to clarify my position. I hope you understand.
