E9 - Oath

Hands down one of the best episodes of anime that we have ever seen. Another masterpiece and a 10/10.... speechless! We are so obsessed with this series, and we can't wait for to see what's next for Thorfinn. This is very quickly cementing itself as one of our favorites. Askeladd is one of the greatest characters ever this episode makes me so emotional every time he actually gave more advice to thorfinn than thors did ever since thorfinn started having ptsd. It’s crazy to think that he spent more time with askeladd than he did with his actual dad

One of the most beautiful and poignant anime episodes in recent history and definitely one that I think will be remembered up there with some of the greats of all time. Everytime I watch this episode it brings me to tears, Thorfinn is such a beautiful human being and the message of swearing off violence means so much in our current times but is so perfectly contrasted against one of the most violent eras in human history. So many times in anime or fiction do we witness our heroes fighting, hurting and killing others that we never stop to think of what that violence means and how deep down it effects those surrounded by it. Love the reactions as always but this one was a truly special one to see, thank you for sharing it with us

This is one of the most challenging works of art I’ve experienced since it goes up against a fundamental assumption that myself and most other people carry without ever thinking about it. And that is that the world is governed by the sword. It’s always necessary, right? There’s always a point where it’s okay, where you need to cut someone down to stay safe or get ahead, that’s just the way things are. The sword always wins—but only if you accept its logic. If you put it down and see the infinity of other ways to approach life and problems just for a second, it loses its power and you’ll never want to pick it up again.

The most enlightened person who goes hand in hand with peace and tries to forgive his aggressors is the one that persued and killed others. If you didn't experience that of killing, you will never know what remorse is of removing someone else's life. The best story to depict Vinland Saga is about all this, and including how slaves are created and how war goes hand in hand with true peace. The author (mangaka) of Vinland Saga is 1 of the most peacemakers from all mangaka I know of. True masterpiece.

Thank you for the great reactions! It’s maybe a silly thing for a show to impact you so much, but when the story so directly reinforced feelings I had & conclusions I had come to on my own… it became almost like a little reminder of where I want to go & of the path I intend to take there.

To be totally honest, I wasn't too into this show until this episode. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the story, and the animation was beautiful. But it felt a bit basic until now. I've seen plenty of revenge stories, and plenty of stories with people regretting their violent actions. But this? The target of Thorfinn's rage telling him to climb back out of hell and be better? Amazing. Askeladd was such a unique character. Not a good man by any means, but definitely one of the most complex characters I've ever seen. The fact that Thorfinn spent most of his life trying to kill Askeladd, and he still cared for this broken kid? Ugh, it tore my heart up.

I cannot think about this episode without tearing up and getting chills everywhere. There’s another episode this season that affects me on this level, I’m not gonna say which one, but it’s in my top five episodes of any series ever. Not just of Vinland, but of anything. This entire story is absolutely incredible, I’m so glad y’all love it.
