Great film under an hour!

Russell Berkley

I don't know if there's any better representation of what it's like to be isolated and depressed than this shows. It's something I'm working on to this day, but luckily I've found my friends. It feels so validating to see it represented so well here. And so hopeful that I'll be able to break free too.

OMG OMG OMG

This movie is something so monumental, having close friends & family who battle & live with being deaf, having depression, anxiety. And it is such an amazing and gentle depiction of what is real for them. My heart ❤ when I found out today you guys reacted to it. Nothing can express how thankful & happy I am to you girls for giving this movie the time & attention and loving it so much. It made me feel so much better in this trying week. Thank you Girls love You always 😇❤ Your biggest fan Humble 💕💖

Kyo

Love your movie reactions! Such a pleasant surprise 😊 There are 2 characters in this movie that made my blood boil. It's not as fleshed out as in the manga, but it's a close adaptation. Fist one is Kawai (Blonde girl). She never took accountability of her actions and always made herself the victim in every situation. Second the elementary teacher. He was annoyed having a child with a disability in his class. Did nothing to help her addapt to the class. Knew she was being bullied and did nothing. And when things escalated he went full force against Ishida, and didn't do anything when he was being bullied either. Worst character of the whole movie

Omgggggg my fav TT

One the greatest episodes of Vinland… the penultimate season 2 mob episode… friggin dune 2 and now this?! We’re getting unreal value from this Patreon today!

BC

One of the best anime movies!!

Dale Cooper

This is in the top 5 of my most emotional mangas that I've read. It's honestly a really good adaption of the source material and just a well animated movie too. Glad you all got around to watching it. That scene where the mom confronts her son knowing he's planning to kill himself breaks me everytime.

I love H&K

Wishing a strength to you❤️ I'm struggling with that too

I love H&K

I was watching it for the first time here, with you sisters. Feels like i was crying throughout the entire movie. Loved the movie and you both❤️

Berry

I can't cry very easily, and I often need to and have like. A block. So when I need to cry, I put something on, and it's this movie or Robin's backstory for me.

MESHA

Ah so this is what we get today ? Tears huh

Pymos

i feel the same way and when you start to notice every watch of the movie just makes it worse. i prob have seen the movie 20+ times and read the manga once in the movie the small details about how kawai handels everything is just so calculated and mean i really hate her and the teacher doesnt feel that bad in the movie because they hide it better but him laughing when she is reading is also insane behaviour. And when you see how they are depicted in the manga its even worse. I hate that Kawai is so prevelent and from beginning to end is the only one who doesnt change. Her screaming in the park so people give her sympatchy is so crazy to me.

Dale Cooper

Now you all are ready for Grave of the Fireflies.

Cesar

"The... Moon? It's Pretty, Huh?"🔥 "The Thing Is, You Have To Accept The Bad Parts Of Yourself With The Good And Just Move Forward." So happy you both reacted this one 🔥🖤 one of my favs.

OMG WHAT A SURPRISE!! Probably my favorite anime movie

YelloCheeese

Such a great movie!! Would love to see a Weathering With You reaction.

Bee

Just finished bawling my eyes out with you guys. Such a beautiful and powerful movie, if not one of the best in anime. This movie shows how truly complex people can be, how our actions can hurt each other, how we learn to forgive ourselves and others, and how we all have the capacity to change and become better people. I'm so happy you two reacted to this! Made my day :) Much love!!!

Bakert

true like Naoka is also awful but at least she honest about it

BaTe0o7

I like how they portray character tropes tho. Kawai is the pick-me lol. Ueno is a tsundere, Saradah is a coward, Nagatsuka is the non-serious comic relief, Mashibasa is the outsider, and Yuzuru is the kid who acts more mature than the actual teenagers lol. They do a good job of showing the good and the bad of these tropes despite the heavy material of the plot. It does well to deliver the point that "you need to learn to love both the good and the bad in yourself."

The Guest

awesome movie and reaction. should watch: Josee, the Tiger and the Fish. movie next :D

Tryce2312

In real life she actually did kill herself well in the story this is based on

Twisted Glass

Emotional damage is back on the menu! Just kidding, it never left. All jokes aside, this is such a beautiful movie with a powerful message and I can't get enough of it. This was such a great surprise to see you two react to it.

Bruce #Ricky

Change ur profile picture u creepy

I love H&K

Sorry to hear that, but I'm gonna keep it unless Hayley tell me otherwise

Roboton

It doesn't seem to be based on a (one single) true story from what I could find: The author herself has apparently mentioned in interviews that she based it on different observations of hers and took it to a more extreme direction in her story. Fortunately, in a way, but it doesn't take away from the struggles people do live through.

LordTamim

The movie is so emotional and and touches you in a different way but the most depressing thing about the movie even in the end she still kind of feel that she is the wrong one. She’s not trying hard enough. People don’t deserve to be around her because she’ll be a burden even when she is deaf. She’s trying 120% to make everybody understand her because she feels she’s the problem. Knowing this is alone gave me depression for two weeks.

LordTamim

I hope your next movie will be “”grave of fireflies””. It’s an Oscar nominated movie. 8.5 rating on IMDb with with more than 350,000 people voting to rate the movie. It’s such a masterpiece. I hope you watch it.

RawR Productions

i feel like the "stupid" at the end is also powerful because it didnt come from a place above. its was a geniune silly interaction friends would have and shoko didnt feel insulted but included. thats why it made her happy

Luke Wayman

I never expected this to pop up on my notifications. This is by far one of best movies.

whitebeard25

As always Kyoto Animations killing it with the movies that makes you feel all kinds of emotions

bertaunth

I've seen this film at least once a year since 2017 (around the time of release), and it's seriously my favorite film!!! Super glad to see you two finally experience this masterpiece!! After 8 years of thinking about it, I'd recommend keeping these ideas in mind during a rewatch (and if the lens isn't for you, that's totally fine!!): - There are no villains (if you want to name a villain, then it might be biology or social systems as a construct; this isn't to excuse harm, but the film shows everyone's interior logic) - Try to separate ethics from behavior; the film makes more sense if you consider that for any given person, their perception of "what is true" is more important than the actual truth (also consider the question: in ethics, is there *actual* "truth"?) - If Perception > Truth (by this, I don't mean truth doesn't matter, but rather that people act on their believed truths), then consider how your own worldview as a viewer might be coloring how you assign meaning to certain acts and characters (is meaning a construct? what drives you to choose specific interpretations over others?) - Try to think about why certain behaviors manifest. If we are all products of genetics, evolution, and our environment, consider how much of the characters' actions are really "in their control" (what does it mean to "choose" an action or a behavior if our behaviors are the result of evolution, genetics, and our environment, all of which are random and, for the most part, out of our control? How might this shape the way you cast moral punishment on others because of their actions? Note: This doesn't erase responsibility) - The chalkboard scene in 6th grade was just about making fun of Sahara leaving (it's implied that she left bc she was a "coward"). The rollercoaster scene has a loaded meaning bc her speech about seeing something in a new light despite also still being afraid, is not really about the rollercoaster at all; it's mostly about (or ig, can be interpreted as) how as she changed the lens of her perception, she saw things that scared her, like Ueno, differently, who she compliments as being a great friend with great artistic taste (even though Ueno bullied Sahara when she was younger). Try to consider this question: is Sahara "wrong" for wanting to view Ueno person in a positive light? - Try to consider what personal "change" means. Does someone "change" bc others saw different behaviors? Or do they change because their intentions are different? When answering these, try to keep in mind that actions are decoupled from intention (the same action, which can be perceived in any way based on another person's interpretation, can, in reality, be driven by any intention on the part of the person who took the action) - Some minor details, like in the river: why is there only one white fish among many grey fish? What does this decision to color the fish in this way mean? Super optional if you're interested, but some frameworks on human development to keep in mind: - Cook Greuter's Stages of Ego Development: https://apacoaches.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Cook-Greuter-2007-Ego-Development-Nine-Levels-of-Increasing-Embrace.pdf - Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Kohlberg%27s_stages_of_moral_development - Kegan's Stages of Adult Development https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructive_developmental_framework Big note: Being at a higher stage isn't a status contest! No one is "better" as a person bc they are at a "higher" stage. What stages might each of the characters be at during different parts of the film, and how does that color their perception of their surroundings, of themselves, and of other people? What stages might you be at, as the viewer, and how might that color your perception of the characters and their actions? I could yap on and on about this film 🫠 (there's just SO MUCH going on here), but hopefully these gave you something to think about! ✌️ I guess as a final question, something that you should ABSOLUTELY think about during a rewatch, is: what would it mean to have empathy for *every* character in the film? I hope this gives you a few different angles to experience A Silent Voice from!

J-zero

I love when people are so passionate about something in particular. really cool details :) thank you

Star.D.ust

OH MY GOD YOU GUYS FINALLY WATCHED A SILENT VOICE AND I DIDNT KNOW?!!😭😭 THANK YOU!! This movie is EVERYTHING to me!!

Star.D.ust

Great i just finished sobbing along with y'all. This movie has my whole heart. You mention 'A Silent Voice' is an oxymoron; as we're introduced to Shoko and find she's deaf, we might assume the title is in relation to her (which is definitely ALSO true). However, as we near the end we realise 'A Silent Voice' was heavily directed at Shoya. - Ueno's behaviour is implied to have been a result of her responsibilities of helping to raise her siblings. During the ending fireworks, there is a frame where she watches with her siblings. That explains why she projected in the cases of not being understood by people, getting tired of putting effort into caring about/for others' needs, and yelling at Shoko's mother during the fight about not having kids if you can't take care of them. This is only the SECOND time I've watched this movie that I deemed one of, if not my top movie of all time. It just felt confronting but also a little hopeful..in this sense I'm talking about Shoya. I never knew that my experiences and feelings (minus bullying people) could be depicted so accurately, or at all. The anxiety and feeling sick; the penal mindset that everything bad is deserved; wondering if it's okay to experience happiness and fun; wondering what a 'friend' is..; and ESPECIALLY not expecting to see the rawness of how it feels to shut the world out with closed ears, assumptions about what people are talking about (me), and not being able to look up or see faces..it hurt so much to see it depicted for someone else. Then in Shoko's case, maybe I just didn't change. ANYWAY, I can't believe I rambled on like this but I can for ages when it comes to this film. I just want to say thank you to H&K and for this space that allows me to feel what a 'friend' and 'fun' and 'happiness' might be. 🦋

Ill say bubble next or in the near future.
