I love this about One Piece but this where you start to see what some people consider the weakness of One Piece. When you follow 9 'main' characters no one can win their fights way before the others most of the time. Otherwise, if anyone wins before the others, they just become static and don't seem to matter. I love following 9 main characters, but I understand why people get annoyed with moving from fight to fight without resolving anything. But as I see it, Oda is showing us the story from 9 different characters perspective at the same time. Better than other writers following just 2-3 characters perspective. I won't complain about spending more time with our crew even if it means jumping around from the characters.

I love that gear 2 is only possible because luffy is rubber, the freedom and control he has allows him to make any part of his body act like an extra heart to pump blood through stretchy vessels that can take that blood pressure to deliver oxygen to his cells at a stupid fast rate, offsetting lactate build up in his muscles so they lose their limits for he most part, he's technically more resistant to rising body temperature from the blood as a result too like haylo said, hence red hawk. So unlike hody, luffy's body and gear 2 is like an on-command doping procedure, in fact, in real life some athletes (illegally) have their blood frozen and re-added by a doctor before sports events to temporarily boost their red blood cell count and oxygen capacity for more performance, super risky though (obviously)

Just a little FYI. In the Manga Luffy won his fight with the first red hawk. The Luffy/Hordy scenes in Episode 566 are all non-canon.

I'm so mixed on how I feel on this specific situation. On one hand, I'm a manga guy, so non-canon tends to bug me especially when it drags out a fight that should have been a quick wash since that just kind of lessens the gap in power between Luffy and Hody. On the other, I don't mind more one piece especially when I have to wait a week, sometimes two or three for a new chapter.

I don't know if Toei does consult everything with Oda (I doubt it) but in fights like this when in the source material Luffy (or any other character) one shots his enemy but Toei makes him look like he struggles, it obviously distorts Oda's original idea. This is one of the reasons why Toei's anime will never be as good as manga. I can't wait to see how the remake will do.

You make it sound, as if Hordy went down after the red hawk and didn't stand up, but he did use the fishmen jutsu attack with the sharks, triggering Luffy's elephant gun. (Volume 65, chapter 645) But yes, there were a lot of added scene, but isn't that with every fight...? 😅

Just to be clear, that wasn't the actual end of the fight... but yeah, in the manga Hordy is defeated hilariously easily after Luffy lands on the Noah. It was really annoying to see the changes the anime made.

Such a shame that the anime changed the last bit of the fight for no reason to made it look like Luffy struggled against Hordy. In the actual story in manga, after that first (and only) Red Hawk, Luffy lands on the Noah and absolutely destroys Hordy with no effort whatsoever. I know H&K don't read comments anymore, so I wonder if the mods let them know about stuff like this? I feel like it's important since it's quite a departure from Oda's version, lol
