Agreed, plus in a lot of shows, even outside anime, the world normally impacts and changes the MC, but in one piece Luffy impacts and changes the world, which is just another great thing about the series.

as you get older, you get stronger until some point of time (usually around 35-40). what hordy and others were doing with those pills was they ,,borrowed the strength of their future self" kind of thing. after the effects wore off, they aged the years of power they borrowed. my headcanon is those pills were perfected version of those forbidden waters from Alabasta, which give you sudden strength boost, but after that you will die. i am SURE the ancient king of alabasta and fishmen island knew each other and shared their culture and knowledge somehow.

Love how the World Government spreads that Nico Robin is a dangerous individual who wants to destroy the world with the ancient weapons and she is so unbothered about them. Robin will visit a place hundreds of episodes after learning the exact location of an ancient weapon and be like: Oh damn, wait, that thing was here.
