i hope you guys connect to the fact that YOU are living in Vinland now. and violence of man is still all around us and yet the lessons in this show are about rising above it even if it persists. we ALL still need to actively try to do things the first way. the prevention of violence can not be violence.

i connect massively with this show as a combat veteran of iraq, as a warrior i have struggled with the same issues Thorfinn has my entire life, i went off to war at 18, couldnt even grow a beard, had no idea what i was in for and the violence i would surround myself with. this show is actual the best anti-war content ive ever watched.

the fact that arnheid is non consensually being used as his ‘attendant’ and she dared to be free he does that to her . like i understand his mental state but thinking about how he is essentially sa-ing her regularly and she has to be okay with it because shes a slave . it makes me sick to my stomach

the story is so effective and tragic in the way it portrays Ketil as the “nice” slaveowner all season before recentering this episode how no slaveowner can really be “nice”/how the story is inherently so different for women than men. from here to the end of the season is where i feel like the show hits all its thematic peaks

This episode in portraying this side of Ketil really reminds me of the episode with Askeladd where they raid the village in the snow. Vinland Saga does such an incredible job at portraying the multiple faces of its characters.

"I want to find that first method" I feel like many reactors think that fighting without killing is what Thors thought was right. Because he fought Askeladd's men unarmed. But he told Askeladd that he is "not yet a master". Thors never learned the first method. Thorfinn wants to go further than where Thors went. Thorfinn earlier said fighting to keep peace "isn't enough". As much as we think violence is necessary to keep peace in Norse men's society, Thorfinn wants to find another way. Not Killing. Not even hurting. Even if its impossible, Thorfinn needs to try it. I think that's absolutely beautiful.
