I only read the manga, but it's the first time the anime strays away from the manga so much. I don't understand why they feel the need to do this kind of thing instead of giving 1 or 2 more chapters to the anime. It would have been enough with that. Anyways I love your reactions to the series 😊

Probably production costs. They have a budget most times and are allotted a certain amount of episodes to complete the anime or season. That's why most times the anime adaption strays from the manga. It's like reading your favorite fiction. There is a lot of detail in it but they can't possibly fit every single scene into a 2-3 hour movie so they cut a lot of it out or change it up a bit to keep it as close as possible but sometimes will ultimately stray off course due to time and budget.

damn! that discussion was so good, as usual! I love what Kiss said abt the teacher being the sinner and kicking the others off the thread. By that understanding, we could probably say that him sinning in 6th grade + that story inspired him to cut off these kids who aren't bettering themselves. Like he targetted these quiet and vulnerable kids going through stuff, and because he saw them as hopeless they were just deadweight adding to the cut of his own thread. So yeah, I can see it being like "okay i'm taking you down with me then" since he sees the thread on them. GREAT REACTION!

This is why the show's true Japanese title, "The Town Without Me", makes so much sense. Kayo originally wrote the essay wishing to disappear, and now in this timeline Satoru replaced her as the one who was gone

Yeah, I'm also one who only read the manga. YEARS ago though haha. When I saw them go to the roof, I thought "I don't remember this." I'll have to reread the ending chapters to decide if the change in the anime is too drastic or not.
