This is when people usually say “welcome to chainsaw man” Edit: I’m glad you enjoyed himeno’s character! A lot of people usually write her off as the ✌️consent / vomit devil✌️ for what she did. It was wrong but also i believe was a mistake.

We've known Hibeno for like a couple of episodes, and yet those unsettling "slice of life" moments at the beginning just made Hibeno seem so down to earth and connected to her, and then she dies, and it HURTS... Outside of Rengoku, this is the second fastest character I grew attached to in a short amount of time and then taken away from us. :/

I still don't get why the director for the first season received such mixed reactions. I personally love the direction of this show, especially in this episode. From the cinematic slow mo's during the gunfire scenes, to the eerie way the curse animation was portrayed. These are the things that truly make animes different from mangas, not to mention the stellar soundtrack/OST from Kensuke Ushio.

It was good but the art style wasn’t very similar to the manga and instead of having crazy animation it was spread out to be cinematic. It wasn’t bad just different from what people wanted I guess.

This is where you put your hands up, say "Absolute cinema!" and enjoy the rollercoaster ride

personally I'm a huge fan of how uncomfortable they make the himeno/denji stuff in the last episode and this one. like it's SUPPOSED to make you feel uncomfy with it, because its not a good situation for him to find himself in. thats the point - hes still learning to respect himself, and i like that they dont shy away from showing the details of that and lean into how disturbing it feels to be in that kind of scenario. its sadly unusual for anime to display an underage relationship as anything even remotely like this and i am thrilled they went with this depiction over romanticising it

Scavenger

Ahh man she ghosted Aki :(

time for Painsaw Man

Thanny

24:24 Literally the suits. As in tough to cut through, like Kevlar.

The moment they took Himeno from us Also the moment the whole show spread its wings

Jake

Himeno still has me crying 😭

I feel like they used the anime medium to the fullest potential with Chainsaw Man, but by doing so they took some distance from the manga's version. To me, it's a great thing because manga and anime should be different, even if they both tell the same story.

Noone beats Himmel in this regard, they took him from us before we really started to get attached to him later from flashbacks...

GhostGhost

Pochita tears me up more than both of those and he had way less screen time. Pochita is one of the quickest emotional whiplashes in anime for me.

I felt more sad for frieren reaction then himmel. The hero from the South though...

I love the breakfast scene with Himeno and Denji. From my understanding, the mangaka loves to play with people's expectations. The protagonist being a 16 year old with special powers, that gets pulled into a quest to defeat a great evil? The way that numerous adults around him are flirty or a little too familiar? Tropes of the genre. You're led into thinking they're gonna sleep together, but it's not all that unusual for anime/manga. And then they're at breakfast the next morning and she practically looks at the camera and is like "phew, thank god that didn't happen, it would be SUPER ILLEGAL. You know, because you're ONLY 16". It really forces the viewer to examine the tropes that they've become used to across anime and manga. Denji is a child that never got any kind of education and grew up scrounging for scraps. He's been abused his whole life, and while from his perspective he's living the good life, it's really just another kind of abuse. Makima calls him her dog, tells him to his face that if he tries to leave he'll be killed, and strings him along using his teenage libido. Many manga gloss over stuff like this, hand-waving away the moral concerns. But CSM forces you to look at it directly. Good stuff.

I still feel like the Curse Devil doesn't hit like it does in the manga. In the manga we get to actually see the fingers coming from outside the panels to really give it the effect of breaking the fourth wall, like it's only something we can see.
