There are real people who have it like Gojo, me being one. I am 32, and I have been working since 16 and never did anything else, so I didn't experience anything. There is this common condition in japan called "hikikomori" of people who withdraw from society. Estimates are over 1.5 milion of such people in japan. I think animes like this may try to target them, since they often just watch anime alone. I think you may have a lot such people in your audience, even if less extreme versions, because people who watch reactions often do it to compensate not having friends to share what they like with.

I've said this on other MDUD reactions, but because Gojo's inexperience with other people, he has no idea that Marin's "just the two of us" was meant to be different than a pair of friends hanging out. It's wholesome, adorable, and a little sad mixed perfectly.

While I partially agree with your point on why people watch reaction videos, I think the essence of it is watching a newbie step into a world that I’ve known for a long time. A newbie who knows nothing just brings pure joy to the viewers. This applies to literally any type of reaction video, not just anime reactions. This is why the reaction videos often say, 'Oh, I haven't heard of this before!' or 'This is my first time trying blah blah blah'. If someone wants to share what they like, they’d probably just join Discord or Reddit or discussion video to discuss things right after they drop.

Probably not the most important part of the episode, but whitebait are 'fry' (baby fish). They travel in schools and many countries have the practice of 'whitebaiting'. It varies by country what species in particular are called whitebait, but many countries have to control it so that fish population don't get decimated, either because they're a staple food fish when they're mature (sardines, mackerel, etc) or because they're a native or otherwise protected species. Here in New Zealand, they're often baked into fritters. In Japan, they're usually boiled in salt water or dried.
