Watching this again in 2026, I'm realizing that Code Geass (gee-iss) is such an anime of it's time, the animation, the tropes, the flair...etc. Nostalgic. In all of human history no dominant power ever surrenders territory or stops oppressing people out of pure, unprovoked altruism, they only do so under great pressure (like rebellion) or when there's something to lose or when the loss were they to continue becomes too great - this is why I found what Suzaku says incredibly, like 100% naive. Noble, sure, idealistic, yes, something a young person who doesn't know history would say, but to change this system from within? Impossible (I mean it's a work of fiction), but in a real sense I find it ridiculous when you read about history. Thanks for the great reaction!

Yeah the first few episode are really fast and dense. Don't feel bad if you miss anything. So much went over my head on my first watch that I didn't notice until my second one.

1st - I saw this comment on another reaction, thought it was very good: "Lelouch is what happens when a rich theatre kid decides to become a revolutionary." 2nd - the end of this episode and the contrast between LeLouch and Suzaku is what hooked me. So well characterized and presented 3rd - I'm having a good time comparing how this show presents "I'll change the system from within" versus how One Piece presents the same thing; ie, LeLouch vs Suzaku and Garp vs Dragon.

It’s incredible how relevant this story is to current events.

This was not episode 4. This was episode 0

I think there's a fundamental lack of understanding of the emotions and desperation of the people who are being oppressed or warred upon, and stories like this can, in a fictional setting, show the lengths theyll go to just to be free. It's a safe way to experience something that a lot of people turn a blind eye to

seeing this over 15 years later and it's still top 5 anime ever, so good

Weird how they translated with "Stage" in the beginning. When I first watched this like 15 years ago it said "Turn", which makes way more sense with the chess theme.

Before Demon Slayer cliffhangers there was Code Geass ahahahaha.

One thing I just noticed watching the now, but when LeLouch is talking to the guy who is making his Zero outfit, he has the geass eyes while telling him it will be ready soon. That means he didn’t use his Geass when initially requesting it, so the guy will totally remember that he was asked to make the outfit that Zero ends up wearing.

You'll get used to it. No one gets it all within just a few episodes. It's designed to be that way. You slowly learn more about the world. It's very operatic and melodramatic. It's great lol.

Suzaku foreal trying to make Area 11 great again lmao. Now it's all I can think about when he spouts his ideals.
