Hey man it's okay, you did give us a movie this week etc sometimes days are longer than others so keep your head held high :)

I’m not sure if there was romantic love between CC and Mao. Mao definitely had those feelings towards her, but it is somewhat ambiguous if anything was ever reciprocated. The anime does use koibito so I don’t think it’s a mistranslation though. Hmm.

Aesthetics are interesting in this show. Lelouch’s vibe makes it easy to be skeptical of his motivations, but people don’t have that same smoke for Suzaku, even though both of these people are murderers, and Suzaku is supporting the system that was committing genocide in episode 1.

2/3rd show, 1/3rd theory crafting :P

CC is like that one girl that boys dream about when they're young. Like a mermaid that visits them and is motherly, but also someone they'd never want to lose. Human but somehow, definitely not exactly human. Reze is one of those girls, too. Basically, all mystical, too-good-to-be-true, surreal, out of place, mysterious women. Like they're from some other world. So, when they show up, you feel like you're chosen and have been whisked away into some fantasy. Like Spirited Away. This is actually a phenomenon that many young men have experienced growing up, but most don't remember it anymore. CC's backstory with Mao here is like exactly that. Or a really good example of those.

I feel like when C.C said "lover" for Mao, I don't think it meant that they were "lovers", but rather he thought of her as her lover, but it one one sided and non-reciprocal. At least that's the way I always took it as I thought it would be weird if they were actually "lovers" in the traditional sense, given the age gap.
