Thanny

21:28 No, Tao wanted to end the ruse so she could leave and get married as planned. She was outright murdered to prevent her from ruining the coverup. She was not poisoned before that. She just wore the bandages to conceal who she really was. She may have already been dead when the mushroom was rubbed on her face by the murderer(s).

If MAOMAO is following safety protocols and wearing gloves and a mask instead of gobbling up the shroom, you KNOW it's a bad one. LOL. Also, SO MANY hidden Easter eggs planted in this show already for those who know! I love how this show introduces little details for viewers to think about, only to leverage them later as a SECONDARY "Oh yeah, we've already seen or learned about this before!" moment. For example, remember last season with the melting metal and the three workshop sons? If they'd introduced a "metal that melts easily near heat" right when Maomao needed to save Jinshi, it would've felt rushed or like a *deus ex machina*. Instead, they introduced that knowledge earlier, almost like they were TRAINING the viewer and slowly building up the show's shared knowledge pool. Same thing with Lihua's sauna! It gets repurposed into a greenhouse to grow the blue roses, which then become a metaphor for Maomao's mother. Later, in S2's perfume episode, that same knowledge helps explain why Maomao is distilling alcohol to make scented perfumes using those same withered roses, alongside previously established details about honey and other ingredients. The show is SO GOOD at planting tiny seeds that initially seem like B-stories, or even Z-stories, only to make them relevant much later. It's like the show hands you one end of a rubber band and tells you to hold on. Then it slowly starts pulling... and pulling... and PULLING... until everything finally SNAPS, and suddenly it's "GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN!" as you're thrown into the rollercoaster aftermath. HAHA.

I'm still waiting for ReZero first tbh, been waiting for 4 years even for apothecary diaries haha, but hey, we're slowly getting there! Patience young grasshopper :D

It's definitely my favorite thing about this show. I'm reading the novels now, and there are SO MANY little details that get brought up 2 or 3 books down the line--I got myself a notebook to write down anything I think is worth remembering so I don't get lost lol

Gyokuyou really is so fun-spirited, I love her :) I wonder if Concubine Jin really was the one behind Gyokuyou's past poisoning. If so, that would account for only one of the two times she's been poisoned (attempted). I bet if Maomao was there she would have figured it all out! She's Jinshi's unofficial advisor haha. She compliments his more noble, political way of thinking very well.

Haha indeed. I rewatch this show often that I didn't need a book and go (sometimes too much) into my long winded breakdowns of each episode that I stay on top of the information as an anime only watcher :)
