Here is the source file for the video and the Cloth Grab script that is exclusive for my patrons!

Just install the clothdrag.zip file like a normal add-on. Then while in edit mode on a mesh, select some verts to pin and search for "Cloth Drag". This will do the whole setup for you.

auch. the search gives me the tool when in object mode but not in edit mode. weird

A little tip on the add-on, make sure one vertex has the active selection. Sometimes an action like checker deselect can make this unhappy. So deselect and reselect one vertex in this case.
