It takes more time than I thought

I think just a lil bit is fine. Simplicity can be a boon on its own

I think it adds an appreciable amount of detail, but maybe you could dial it back to scenes where not much is going on. You can focus on the foreground more when it gets "exciting", since people's attention will... well, be elsewhere.

If you use a program maybe you can script part of the process to speed up things. It's not cheating just help you do background things faster in order to focus on the subjects. You should be able to achieve the same results with mask.

Your backgrounds are awesome, so don’t get rid of them entirely. If it feels like too much, just do some.

I think that the shading adds a nice amount of depth but you could probably get away with only using it in a few panels, and just go with a simpler background in most cases.

I think for a first pass of the comic, meet your deadlines than going to the utmost quality possible, when you do a print version you can go back and enhance or redraw panels

Your BGs are fantastic and less shading will not make them shine any less. No need to break your back working on them ♥

It's your creation and I hope you do whatever makes you happy. I'm also a webcomic creator. I took some shortcuts in my comic's original releases. Now 20Y later I am remastering it and re-releasing it with everything held to a higher standard. It is definitely more work this way than doing it "right" the first time. But also I don't think I had the same skills and perspective the first time around so it's a tradeoff.

The textured hatching? Overlay? Is there a word for it? I like it.
