OMG.
Talk about a doozy of a theme!
First, a massive shout out to everyone who voted for the Cyber Slayer theme in our Halloween Model Pack Vote. You never fail to push me out of my comfort zone and I appreciate you!
This model pack featured a character with an incredibly intricate costume, brimming with tiny accessories attached all over. Instead of getting bogged down by the details, I chose to focus on the essence of the character, capturing the key elements that caught my eye and sparked my imagination.
Admittedly, this pack was a bit on the sparse side, with only around 80 images and the pose were kinda...meh. Rather than letting that get in my way, I was it as an opportunity to experiment with my materials.
The model's sleek black latex costume inspired me to ditch my usually pencils and conte in favour of ink pens. If you've ever worked with ink (looking at you Lawrence!) you know the challenge it presents. Ink demands confidence - each line must be deliberate as it can't be undone or easily covered up. This was my challenge in this session.
I dove in, embracing the boldness of the ink and allowing to let what happens, happen. Check out the video to see how it turned out and I'd love to hear any tips you have on drawings with pen. Every bit of advice helps me to grow and improve!
Practice Takeaways:

I hope you can learn from these takeaways and apply them to your own gesture drawing journey.
